Grand Traverse Resort & Spa
About Grand Traverse Resort & Spa
The 900-acre Grand Traverse Resort and Spa in Acme became a Michigan landmark in the 1980s on the outskirts of Traverse City as its distinctive 17-floot glass tower was built adjacent to The Bear, a notoriously tough course by Jack Nicklaus. Guests have so many choices among 600 guest rooms and condos, five restaurants and lounges, the Gallery of Shops, four indoor-outdoor pools, an indoor water playground, a 7,000-square-foot spa, a private beach on Grand Traverse Bay, a large health club with five indoor tennis courts and two other courses, The Wolverine by Gary Player and Spruce Run by William Newcomb. The nearby Turtle Creek Hotel and Casino, accessible by a free shuttle, is also owned by the Grand Traverse Band of Ottowa and Chippewa Indians.Facts

Tough course
Easy to hit fairways but hard to hit greens. Played on a wet windy day and had to hit 2-3 clubs up on certain holes. Challenging bunkers around the greens. Lots of mounds around the greens and on the sides of fairways. Course was in excellent condition. Round went fast. Lots of carry over water to small greens. Lots of levels to the greens. Super smooth cart paths, but shocking that there was no GPS in the carts at $120/round. Water refill stations were empty - but the drink cart would sell you water bottles. Played comparable courses for half price outside of resorts. Range balls before the round were not included.
Very enjoyable
I loved the course layout, which provided a good variety of long and short holes, straight and doglegs, challenging par 3s.
Great condition
Course was in great condition never seen it better looking than this summer. I had a bonus. The greens were fast typically they are slow for my liking, but this year they were lightning.
Sleigh the Bear
First the good- fairways and greens in very good condition. Staff very friendly and pace of play was good although it was a Tuesday. The disappointing- $150 rack rate doesn’t include range balls and there is no short game practice area for non-members. With three golf courses this should be standard included and available. So many green side bunkers that appears staff not keeping up with maintenance as weeds growing around some bunker perimeters but sand quality is overall good.
Better have a good sand game to score well here. As the bunkers and small greens will test you some but don’t let the reviews scare you from playing here.
Great golf!
I played this for the second time. Staff was very friendly this time as opposed to the last starter that had an authority issue.
Course was perfect from all the rain. Greens are somewhat small and very fast. Don’t get above the hole.
Cart guys were great as was all the staff.
This pro shop is one of the best I’ve seen. There line if golf attire is second to none. Very good job by the buyers.
Worth the $$$
In excellent shape - challenging. Pace of play was great. Nice setup on the turn for good and drinks. Cart girl makes several runs. Great experience
Beautiful course.
Had fun playing Spruce Run with my family. Great condition and challenging holes.
