Grand Traverse Resort & Spa - The Bear Course

I was in a golf tournament associated with a large group of folks at the resort for a conference. The ranger kept coming by telling us to speed up. He kept threatening that we would be required to skip a hole if we didn't pick up the pace. The tournament had a couple holes that had games, so that naturally slows play a bit. We were met at the turn by this horrible reprentative of a beautiful course and was told we were required to skip the first hole. He absolutely ruined our experience. What a terrible example of customer service. By the way, we finished our 17 holes in 4 hours and 32 minutes. I'm not sure I've ever finished a 4 man scramble in less than 5 hours.

Dont waist your money. There are tons of courses that cost less and offer an amazing experience without harassment. Treetops, Crystal and Shanty all offer amazing courses and are stay and play resorts. The Bear is beautiful, but this guy ruined our tournament. I will never be back.

I thought it was a great course. I got it on a hot deal for $27 at a 5:30 tee time. I could only get through 9 holes, but it was a beautiful 9 holes and even the rougher course around here are more expensive for 9 holes. I will be back if there is another deal. Beautiful place to play a round

9 holes took 2:45, gave up after hole 12. Ranger didn’t do anything to help. Group in front of us quit as well. Unreal for a place that charges $190. Recommend going to Bahle or A-ga-Ming where they actually respect the game. Beautiful course but not worth the nonsense.

As advertised, a well laid out and challenging course. Greens, fairways and bunkers were in top shape pace of play was average as expected at a resort course. Only suggestion would be clearer hole directions at some holes...notably 14 to 15

This is a challenging but fair, course. Lots of water, doglegs bunkers and small greens. The big miss is pace of play. Avoid weekends.

I'd been wanting to play here for a long time. Great course! Great fairways. Greens were a bit tough. All in all I will be back!

Exceptional layout in great conditions. Very challenging and not a course for beginner golfers. Very deep bunkers and several hazards requiring carrying over. Beautiful course.

Beautiful course. Staff is great, we played as a twosome in 4 hours which wasn’t bad considering we’d never played the course before. You really need to think out there and plan each shot which made it a lot of fun. Stay out of the bunkers especially around the greens 🫣 Really enjoyed the course would definitely recommend.
