About Loon Golf Resort
The Loon Golf Resort has grown to include a second location in Gaylord: The Ridge, formerly the Marsh Ridge Golf Resort. The Loon offers a townhome village with four-bedroom/four-bathroom units with full kitchens just steps from the clubhouse restaurant and the course. The Ridge is more versatile with hotel-style rooms, suites and free-standing condos, all within walking distance to the Summit Grill. Lodges named Copenhagen (11 rooms, one apartment), Summit (20 rooms) and Bergen (12 rooms) all feature a large common/recreation area. The Scandinavian Cabin sleeps 12 with six bedrooms, a fireplace, full kitchen and living area. Its 6,231-yard course is short but beautiful. The 6,418-yard Lakes course sports four holes on Lake Michaywe roughly four miles from both resort properties.Facts

Could be a very nice course.
This course needs some good maintenance. The tee boxes, greens and fairways all need attention. The lay out of the course is real nice and every hole presents its own challenge but it was obvious that it is not what it used to be.
Challenging for a beginner. Would be better played by intermediate golfers.
Enjoyable course to play but several holes better suited for the intermediate golfer. Course was well maintained but cart paths could use some work.
This course is well maintained.
My only concern is that I found the gentleman in the proshop to not be very welcoming. Course is well maintained with a lot of older players. The course is a pretty one that can become challenging due to blind shots and rolling hills.
8/18
Tee boxes shaggy, greens shaggy, fairways shaggy. Very tight.
Wonderful course, very distinctive holes.
We were placed in the middle of large group outing, and thus had to wait on each hole. Time to complete our round was 5 1/2 hrs. Did not like that aspect.
I wont play it agian!
TEE BOXES were awful!! Rest of the course was average. Paid less at the Dream and was much nicer!!!!
Awesome views
Lots of elevated tees and greens. Very aesthetic. Challenging but not impossible. Would definitely play again.
Beautiful Landscape
This is a beautiful course with friendly staff and patrons. We have recommended this course and golfnow to our friends and golf league.
Lives up to its name
My husband and I recently went to Gaylord for an extended weekend of golf. While there we played three of the Treetops courses, Black Bear, The Loon and finally on our last day, Marsh Ridge. We have played and enjoyed this course on other trips to the Gaylord area. The main highlight of this course is the par threes and several par fours that require a solid hit to carry the marshlands between the tee and green/fairway. On this visit, we found the tee boxes and greens were a bit ragged in areas, but this did not take away from the overall playability of the course. While this course will not blow you away with breath taking views, it is a comfortable course for the average golfer.
Golf at the Loon
Great course& the other two golfnow players we were paired with were wonderful partners. Nice weather to boot- made for a fine outing. Thanks to the team at Golfnow!
Great course for the average golfer.
My husband and I came up to Garland for a mini golf vacation and decided to add " The Loon" to our list of courses to play.
We arrived just a little before our tee time and were greeted enthusiastically by the friendly counter girl in the pro shop. After spending a few minutes on the range, we headed out to the first tee. We really enjoyed the course for its well kept fairways and greens that were receptive but not too speedy. While this course may not have some of the spectacular views and elevation changes that other courses in the area possess, it is a very comfortable course for the average golfer. The homes and condos along the course are beautiful and it looks like a great place to live or to rent and play/stay.
Get ready for surprises
We had a good time at "The Loon" if you have never played there before read the score card.. The tee boxes were not in very good condition, the fairways were ok it has a few "trick" holes but fun to play. The staff was great the cart guys met us at the bag drop and took really good care of us and had answers to all of our questions. And helpful on directing us on where to go. They were there when we got off of the course also to clean our clubs. Good job all around guys.
Pleasant golf experience in a scenic setting
We played on a chilly (65 degree), cloudy Saturday July afternoon. Help staff courteous without being overbearing. Maintenance of the course was good, but not superior, but appropriate for a variety of players. (We are not high-end players by any means.) Nice northwoods Michigan setting with a variety of hazards (wetlands, some water, moderately trapped). Have eaten at the restaurant there before, did not this time, but it has nice cuisine and a terrific view of the 18th green!
needs attention
The course has a great layout, I played from the blues, at 6200 yards, it has some challenging holes, with narrow to moderate landing areas. The front nine needs attention, greens and fairways are a little rough. The back nine seemed to be in better shape, and 18 is a great finishing hole. Very pretty setting, cut through the woods and lots of elevation and hills. I haven't played this course in a number of years, and it was not in as good condition as I remember, but I still enjoyed playing it.
Loved this course
I only had enough time to do nine holes. When i was done i wish i had the time to do the other nine. Will be coming back to do eighteen
Great Mature Course
I booked this online thinking I had played it before and when I got there I was wrong. I was surprised because I have played quite a few of the northern Michigan courses around Gaylord. Pleasantly surprised when I seen this course from the clubhouse and once I stepped onto the course. I would recommend this place to anyone looking for a well maintained and challenging course.
Fun course, but pace of play destroyed our enjoyment.
This was not our first experience at this course and each time, the slow play was a problem.
Very scenic and challenging golf course. Not a good course for the average golfer.
Course is very beautiful view of Northern Michigan. A lot of holes have forced carries and dramatic drops of elevation. Many holes ball in fairway is either above or below your feet not many flat lies. Which could cause the average golfer a lot of challenge. Some hole have blind shots or dramatic elevation changes off the tee adding extra stress on tee shots. Greens are rather small and if you go off the back often in the woods.
Very difficult course for weekend players.
The front 9 was so difficult and we lost many balls in the tall rough. The last 9 was more pleasurable, but very challenging.
Nice 2nd tier course
I played black lake and marsh ridge this weekend. For 60 dollars, black lake is head and shoulders above this course. We payed 45 for marsh ridge and it was worth it. Greens were well maintained as well as the bunkers. Course condition was great. The course starts to get good after the 6th hole on. I would recommend playing this course as a higher end second tier course if you are giung on vacation. Staff in the pro shop, beverage cart and dining room is very friendly.
