18th Holes with Clubhouse, Crotched Mountain Photo submitted by GolfMentor on 07/14/2014
Beautiful day on a good and challenging course
Hard to find a more beautiful day for a round of golf! The pace of play was a bit slow due to some type of tournament going on....That being said, It was relaxing and enjoyable. Beautiful day, beautiful venue, and friendly folks all around. A can't miss kinda' day
Worth the drive
As challenging a course as you will find in New England, lots of elevation changes. No quirky holes here, you need every club in the bag. Conditions are top notch, friendly staff and good food.
Impressive Conditions And a Great Experience
I try to play this course at least once a year while I’m up visiting family from my home in Virginia. I love the mountain course layout and the price has always been great. But this time I got even more for my money with exceptional playing conditions and very friendly service.
I don’t remember this course being in as good condition as it was this past visit. Despite a general lack of rain this year the fairways and greens were lush and smooth, putts rolled with perfect speed for the slopes, the bunkers were just about perfect and I had no complaints on the tee boxes or rough either. This course can easily hold its own against others in the area, better than The Shattuck and even Bretwood.
I’ve always loved the layout here with plenty of elevation changes, a few blind shots off the tee, and interesting contours on the greens. The long downhill par-3s on the back nine are the signature holes to me but there are plenty of favorites to choose from. It's not an overly difficult course but it will test your game, especially off the tee as many fairways are a bit tight.
The staff was really friendly and accomodating. They were just finishing up a tournament when I arrived and let me tee off early and I blazed through the course in just over two hours, helped by a gas-powered cart that was probably the fastest golf cart I’ve driven on a course! I only wish the friendly beverage cart girl had made one more round, but I won’t complain.
I got a great GolfNow deal and paid just over $20 for the round, one of the best values of the year for me. I can’t wait to come back and play here again. If you are visiting the Monadnock Region and want to play some good golf, come here!
Course is in great shape
Have played CMGC annually for over 5 years. Course is in the best shape that I have seen during that time. Greens were in excellent condition, and finally #15 green has established itself. The par three’s on the back 9 are exceptional and two of the best in New England. Overall, the course played outstanding and we were even treated to some live music from the patio on the signature 18th - just adding to the incredible view.
Nice course, very, very slow play
Very nice course, with some difficulty. Very enjoyable couple we played with. But, the foursome in front of us held up the entire course by at least 2 holes. They should have a ranger on course. Otherwise we would go back. Everyone we met were very friendly, even all the groups behind us.
Great Course
The course was in great shape, fairways were neat, greens were in great shape. Very challenging course layout. Played my round in 3 hours. Staff was very friendly and i would recommend stopping in the lounge for a bite to eat
I’ll definitely be back
Great views
Great course for views. Mountains/hills make shot placement a challenge for those that have not played course before. Will definitely play there again.
Great course
The course is in great condition. Grass thick and lush. Greens are in excellent shape. Careful along edge of woods, lots of poison ivy. Keep ball in fairway.
Good challenge. Great Views
Course combines targtet golf with tricky greens. You should think about where you want to land the ball and why you want to land it there. Then you have to do it. Greens can be deceiving. This course rewards good play and punishes mistakes. The fairways could you use a little better drainage in some areas; it rained hard the previous day so there were 2 fairways where balls got plugged. Pace of play was slow; it was a Sunday on a holiday weekend so not unexpected. Views of mountain are amazing. Friendly staff. Good food at the restaurant. This place is definitely worth the trip.
Beautiful Course
Crotched Mountain Resort Golf Course is a very pretty layout and nicely manacured . Lots of sloping fairways and challenging greens. Great fun!
The scenery alone was worth the price paid to play. It was a very long ride but very much worth it.
Golf in October-New England style
Golf in New England in late October is typically chilly and/or rain. This round the temps hit 71 degrees and it was a perfect day to play.
This course continues to grow on me. Not overly long, it presents a nice assortment of holes that rewards good shots. Keep the ball in play and have some fun.
Can't get much better
My buddy and I booked a tee time at Crotched Mountain pretty much on a whim and didn't have very high expectations...but a short ride in the country during foliage season seemed like a fun idea. The drive turned out to be a lot longer than expected (1 hour 20 minutes) but, as it turns out, I'll surely be making it again.
We totally enjoy playing The Shattuck in Jaffrey and found that Crotched Mountain was somewhat similar but it was a lot better manicured. The fairways, bunkers and greens were surprisingly well maintained. If you like Donald Ross courses, you'll love this one. The views were great (check some of the pictures I took - assuming they upload) and the golf was outstanding. Most holes didn't require a driver but they all seemed to require landing the ball in the right place with a 3-wood off the blue tees. Target golf at its best! Undulating, slanted greens make it a challenge but they roll true and make it fun. I think a good sense humor and an appreciation for beautiful scenery would really help those of us who aren't scratch golfers.
We sat on the deck overlooking the 18th green and enjoyed a quick but delicious lunch after our round, The bartender poured my Guinness properly (fill 3/4, rest, finish pouring) so it was a fitting end to a most enjoyable day.
Hopefully we can get back yo Crotched Mountain several times before the snow falls!
A diamond in thick rough
This course is very difficult and a reality check for anyone who plays well on the more flat tracks around New England. The rough is almost unfair at times but if you keep it in the fairway like you’re supposed to with a wood or long iron there is an opportunity to go low or at least shoot par on every hole. My locals tip is after the 13th hole keep your driver in the bag for the rest of the round! With that being said it’s always in great condition (wet but you can’t control Mother Nature) and the owner is very friendly and always around getting his hands dirty trying to make improvements very which to me is commendable!
Hidden Gem!
I’m partial to Donald Ross layouts and this one was designed (front 9 only) during his heyday of great courses.
Not overwhelming long but a nice test of golf inviting you to use your irons but also the occasional risk/reward use of the driver.
Greens can be tricky and a lot of uneven lies on the back nine.
Beautiful views worth the trip!
Course in good shape. Must keep it in fairway rough a little unfair.
