Mountain Creek Resort
About Mountain Creek Resort
Mountain Creek Resort is a four-season destination in Vernon, N.J., just an hour outside of New York City. It features a waterpark; the 27-hole Great Gorge course, which was purchased in 2018; the Treescape Aerial Adventure Park, home to zip-lining, climbing obstacles and rope walks; and a Bike Park of 52 trails that is loaded with jumps and 1,000 feet of vertical drop. The course was part of the old Playboy Club in the 1970s and 1980s, attracting famous names such as Dean Martin and Bob Hope for a game. It’s a beautiful property with wonderful mountain views and elevation changes. Guests can stay in the Appalachian hotel or enjoy more space and privacy in a one- to three-bedroom townhome rental at Black Creek Sanctuary. Both accommodations offer outdoor pool and hot tub facilities.Facts

Always good
I always go back to Great Gorge.Good value and condition of course is always nice. If it rains hard you may have a problem Lake side but still a great place to play.Only thing I would suggest is for the town to make the owneres demo the awful looking Playboy Club!
Good course but slow play
It was my first time playing this course. The course is well maintained but a little wet in spots. It's challenging but fair.
The pace of play was too slow. It took 5 hours to play the round. Reduced our enjoyment of the course by quite a bit.
Nice course, but round ruined by staff
I always enjoy playing this course. Under rated in my opinion. Conditions were very good as usual. Greens were smooth. Wish it were a few bucks cheaper though.
Round ruined by staff harassment. We teed off at 6:30. A twosome was put off behind us so after a few holes we naturally had to let them play through. From the fifth hole on we were constantly harassed about pace of play. Meanwhile, no one was waiting behind us all day. By the 13th hole we were told to pick up our ball and skip a hole then continue playing. No way we were going to do that so we just kept playing, but it was all we could think/talk about and it didn't exactly help our games. When all was said and done we finished the round in 4 hours and 40 minutes. Factoring in the time for allowing the twosome to pass it was a 4 and a half hour round...EXACTLY WHAT THEY TOLD US BEFORE WE TEED OFF. The group behind us was three holes back. Needless to say we were upset. We paid good money to play this course (not like it was a $30 round) and this unnecessary level of harassment really turned us off from this course.
Would I come back? Probably. But that is because I enjoy the course. Others in my group said maybe not.
Challenging Course
Fun course to play-lots of blind shots and different looking holes. Second time playing would be very beneficial so I will be back. Can be hard to judge distance as your depth perception is off with the mountains and scenery in the background. Yardage markers could be improved and cart paths need to be paved as they are quite bumpy and our bags were bouncing all over the place. Long walk from car lot to clubhouse and they should have a shuttle taking you back and forth to move things along. Staff was polite and helpful. Overall a great challenge at the right price that puts any North Jersey public course to shame.
Such a sweet looking course
So scenic and quiet. Certainly worth the cost and the hour's drive.
Course Review
Excellent place to play, reasonable rates & friendly staff.
Awesome course
Even though my overall round was brutal, the rail and lake course played and looked great. Greens were very fast and on some holes seemed gimmicky, but you really cannot complain. Staff meets and greets you at clubhouse and from start to finish it was smooth round of golf.
Course: Nice Experience: Ok
The course itself was very nice - well kept with a good amount of character. We particularly enjoyed Quarry, which provided some nice views and interesting holes through the gorge.
The experience left some to be desired. First the clubhouse and the old Playboy hotels are complete eyesores that need to be torn down. Next, the course was hosting a tournament that morning, which led to not only a very slow (5.5 hour) round, but also led to the starters being almost 45 minutes behind schedule. This was exacerbated by the fact that even though we booked a 3:03 teetime, the course had us scheduled at a later time. Don't know why they put other groups in front of us. Though they gave us a raincheck for a future round, so that was nice of them.
bargain
Great course for the money and the best bloody marys in north jersey!
Great Course
Always like playing this course. There was no one in front of us on the Quarry side, but we had to wait each hole for a group in front on the Rail side. Wish the rangers would push a bit more.
Memorial Day golfing
Last minute tee time turned out to be an excellent golf day on a slightly wet course in excellent condition for play, peace of play was ok for a holiday weekend.
great shape
I would play again and again. 3 different nines all good
Great Gorge Review
Tees, fairways both too long. Greens were very inconsistant. Pace was good, no one there. Cart paths are terrible, surprised our cart did not get a flat tire.
great weather
For a picture perfect golf sunday could not get over the pace of play, they do a good job spreading groups out never held up no one chasing you. Cart paths are rough and the bunkers are rocky and packed dirt but overall great layout had a great time
Great Gorge
Aside from the fact that there was no beverage cart out on the course, we had a great day. The weather was supposed to be less than ideal but the rain held off, so we had the course to ourselves. Except for a few greens, the course was in great shape and wound up being a nice round.
Great course worth the trip
Played here many times a great track.Improved course condition in good shape pace play was excellent
Great Course but sloppy weather conditions
Course was in good shape but very wet. I would not recommend any play after overnight rain. Cart paths only makes the long Lake course more difficult. I stopped playing after nine because of rain. However, in spite of the wet condition I would recommend this course.
Nice, scenic course
The course was wet from the night before and the greens were still recovering from aeration. Pace of play was good and the weather was nice. Looking to play there a few times this summer
Challenging Greens
I chose to play this course at the last minute on a Saturday. I arrived in time for my 2:54 tee time. I was able to go out as a single and completed the course in 3 hrs. The course was Rail to Lake. Tee boxes and fairways are in great condition (although wet from last nights rain) and cart path only rules were in effect. The greens were aerated a few weeks ago and should be prime in another 2 weeks. With very little level areas on greens you are forced to place the ball as close as possible to the pin on approach as putting is a real challenge at this course.
Not bad
Course was in ok shape, greens better than fairways. Tee boxes were bad, cart paths were very rough. Staff very helpful and friendly. Amenities were not great. We were looking to make a whole day of it, but went over to Crystal Springs for lunch after the round instead of staying at Great Gorge. Old hotel on site is a dump and an eyesore....some kind of welfare residence? Golf cart was in bad working shape and should have been retired or fixed several seasons ago. Crystal springs has other courses in much much better shape and with much better amenities at an equal dollar amount to play.
