Mountain Creek Resort
About Mountain Creek Resort
Mountain Creek Resort is a four-season destination in Vernon, N.J., just an hour outside of New York City. It features a waterpark; the 27-hole Great Gorge course, which was purchased in 2018; the Treescape Aerial Adventure Park, home to zip-lining, climbing obstacles and rope walks; and a Bike Park of 52 trails that is loaded with jumps and 1,000 feet of vertical drop. The course was part of the old Playboy Club in the 1970s and 1980s, attracting famous names such as Dean Martin and Bob Hope for a game. It’s a beautiful property with wonderful mountain views and elevation changes. Guests can stay in the Appalachian hotel or enjoy more space and privacy in a one- to three-bedroom townhome rental at Black Creek Sanctuary. Both accommodations offer outdoor pool and hot tub facilities.Facts

Hidden Gem!
I played this golf course about 10 years ago and it was a cow pasture. Never went back. A lot of golfers I play with say it is one of their favorites. I thought they were nuts? Got a $15 deal on golf now and decided to give it one more chance. WOW! The conditions are like a private country club! One of the nicest golf days I had in quite some time. Fairways perfect, greens perfect, tee boxes perfect. One of the most friendly staffs I've ever seen. These 3 nines will be my new home course. Highly recommend!
VERY NICE COURSE
When you rate a course, it is only fair when you factor in the cost to play.. Value wise, this is an excellent course. The lay of the land is such that it could be one of the great courses but it falls short of that because it is not what you would call manicured to it's fullest potential. The condition of the cart paths are in need of improvement. I think the average person finishing their 1st round would say, "I really like this course and that with some cosmetic improvements, I would love this course"
Expertly Managed
The golf course is expertly managed. In particular, Glen (the starter) does an excellent job of maintaining the appropriate pace of play. He understands how to send out certain groups and pairings so that one group won't be holding up the next. On top of that, the ranger did a great job of moving along the group ahead of us to ensure the round was finished timely.
The course is challenging. For women, my friend and I noted their slope of 139-145. It would be a tough afternoon for a beginning golfer, but for most it's a great course to play. It's definitely worth the ride out to Crystal Springs, which is off the beaten path.
The conditions for the course were excellent with the exception of the greens being recently aerated. I would definitely recommend all combinations of Great Gorge.
Challanging copurse for the money
Nice course, just doesn't drain well so after a rainy day takes a few days to dry off. The staff is great and course is nice and scenic overall.
No leafs and lots of sand.
I was really excited by the fact that there was little to no leafs on the course.
Great course for the money.
Very picturesque course very fair for the average golfer. Well maintained. I play there often with my friends would recommended it for anyone. Staff very friendly and helpful.
Nice but greens sandy
Played from green tees. Fairly easy course pretty flat slow greens. Aerated recently, lots of sand, got a good deal and had fun
Nice course to play in the fall
The course is in much better condition in the early November than that in the spring or summer. Fairway and green were beautiful. Most leaves had been cleaned out of fairway and rough. In addition, the price from Golfnow is too good.
pace of play excellent
course in great shape for this time of year cart paths need repairs
A Good Return
Wife and I played 11/2 and was glad to see an old classic in NJ has returned to its glory days. Course is in excellent shape after a few years of going downhill. Some of the toughest Par 3's you will ever play.
Great shape
The course was beautiful with the fall foliage and bright blue skies. Great shape (except for greens but we knew ahead of time) and very well maintained. Could be one of my favorite courses in northern NJ. Challenging enough to be fun but not discouraging. Highly recommend this course!!!!!
Aerated
Booked this course twice this year through Golfnow. Showed up and the course was Aerated even though there was no notice on the Golfnow listing. If I knew it was being aerated I would have booked elsewhere. Very Disapointed.
Good Course
It would have been good to know that 9 holes of the course had been aerated before I had booked it through Golf Now.
Overall Ok.
9 holes of the course was being aerated ,,, it would have been nice to know this before I played the course and before I had paid.
very enjoyable course
great course. bin going here for years. has 3 sets of great 9's.
Quarry is easier than Lake
Fairways and greens are in excellent shape. Tee boxes need some work. Cart paths are terrible but they repaved one or two holes
Great views
The course gives challenges along with freedom, each nine is different with its own picturesque.
Well kept greens
The pace of play could have been better. Hard to play fast on a weekend
course in decent shape, off course facilities are poor
Played Quarry/Lake which were in reasonable shape given it was October. The fairways had not been mown so it was hard to differentiate fairway from rough on most holes which is annoying when you don't know the course. The greens on Quarry were good and fast, Lake were poor - very bumpy. The course played long as it was wet however no standing water anywhere and did not find any soft spots. The course is challenging and worth playing save for a few gimmicky holes but the clubhouse, cart paths etc ... need to be updated. The starters did seem a little disorganised given it is 27 holes and was very busy the same day. The pace of play was good with no hold ups and the on course marshall was very friendly and kep things moving. Its worth going just for the golf, however i did not hang around to eat there.
terrible pace of play!
2:36 tee time; teed off about 2:50. 2:30 for 9 holes. Great layout, tough course. Needs some $$. Terrible cart paths, need to see a chiropractor after playing here
