Compadre 2015 trip Photo submitted by lpgallegos1 on 06/01/2015
Needs a lot of work
Played 18 holes today. Was not impressed with this course at all! Lot of dead grass everywhere!!! Greens were bad, some were good. Can't believe they think their course is worth 55-85$ a pop!!! I have played over 100 courses and this was the worst for the money. Very dissatisfied!!!
October Golf
There was a frost delay ( temp was 50ish) till 9. Left alone, played over an hour ahead of schedule. First impression was they didn't use any gas in the chainsaws, lots of trees to hit, and i did. The fairways were nice but the greens were great. Sand bunkers were good too. Only one employee in the club house and he was friendly and professional. No alcohol was available and the restaurant was closed for the season. Too bad on both accounts.
Worst management ever!
First, it is a really nice course with beautiful scenery. That is where the good stuff ends.
The staff was horrendously unfriendly.
The pace was slow on the front nine, but we weren't in a hurry so we didn't mind much. Then, when we made the turn we got to the #10 tee to notice that they put a dad and his five kids (appeared to be about 12 and under) between us and the group we had been waiting on all day! Are you kidding?!?! After watching the kids hit two or three tee shots each on the next two holes (and they had maybe never played before) and an hour for TWO holes while dad didn't even acknowledge or look back, we see the "Marshall" and just says they are just "playing around"! No kidding! No apology, no offer to speed them up, no making them let us play through to the two open holes in front of them! We pointed out that the kids (12 and under) were driving all over the fairways when it was supposed to be "cart path only" he just shrugged and said we could talk to the manager TOMORROW because he was the only employee left on duty because everyone else went home at 6:00! Dusk wasn't until about 9:00, and one 20 something "Marshall" left at the course! We decided it wasn't worth it and drove back to the clubhouse past the groups waiting on every tee box and fairway on the way! This was the absolute worst thing I have ever seen on a golf course. I wouldn't expect this on a $20 municipal course, much less at a "resort" with a $100 green fee! Disgusted!
If you go to Ruidoso and want to play a nice round of golf, try the Links where we played the day before and had a great time for $35 less. Nice, fun course in great condition and friendly folks.
Overpriced
This course is way overpriced. Staff friendliness changes from person to person. Some good, some just terrible. This was my second round this summer and I usually only go because my friends drag me here. Pace is always slow. They expect a 4.5 hour pace of play which is ridiculous. Only reason is the hackers on the course because they are staying at the resort. Both times the pace was really slow, and waited on almost every tee box. The conditions were a bit better this year but not what you would expect for the price. Will gladly play other courses in the area before this one.
Not the best experience, overpriced
The course itself is nice and in pretty good shape overall and in a great mountain setting. A few of the greens looked like they were suffering from a fungus problem. The scenery is beautiful and the course pretty challenging. Not a big fan of trees in the middle of fairways, but it is what it is. For some reason, the Marshall had a big fixation on the 90 degree rule and came out several times to remind us and gave the single with us a hard time about it. Not sure why? Wasn't like we were abusing it. They do allow 5sums out. Fortunately we were not behind one of them. Two things bugged me here. First, felt like management was much more concerned about making a buck than the overall golf experience. Second, the course was just overpriced for what you got. Rainmakers was a much better value and experience and if I'm in the area, would play there over this course.
Not Quite Fit for the Gods
Was somewhat disappointed with the overall experience. The course was in pretty good shape, although some of the greens were suffering from what looked like fungus problems. The layout is decent although not a fan of placing trees in the middle of fairways. The scenery was very nice for sure. It was annoying that the Marshal had a big fixation on the 90 degree rule, much more so that any other course I've ever played, and the maintenance crews were out in force, which was also an annoyance. I just got the feeling management was much more concerned on making a buck than on the golf experience. Although the course is nice, myself and the single they paired me up with felt it's just not worth what they're charging and would not go back until they reduce green fees to a more realistic price.
Very nice
Very nice Mountain course. Greens where in great shape and putted very true.
Great layout
From trees to creeks to mountains this course has it all. Elevated greens and island greens with awesome views! Very challenging course as well with very difficult greens to read and narrow fairways. I will be back every time I come into town.
Good Course but poor service
Played on 14 September 2015. Course is in good shape and spectacular scenery. Do not understand why they have to have so many trees in the middle of the fairway and in front of the greens. The greens were in good shape but lightning fast downhill. Be wary of the GPS in the carts. I found them to be 10 to 20 yards off (sometimes short, sometimes long) from my laser range finder. The pro shop personnel were not very friendly or helpful. You had to ask about everything; carts, driving range (short irons only), first tee. They provided no information at all about the course. There was a yardage book but you had to ask about that also. Some of the holes are pretty unique so info about them would have been nice. Overall I played pretty good. Couple of bad holes to start off with (see driving range with short irons only) but I had a couple of birdies and several pars. For a casino resort in New Mexico they could take a few lessons about customer service from Sandia, Twin Warriors or Isleta Casino golf courses. It would make a good golf course a more enjoyable experience.
Inngolf
Great Got to play a little with Brian who works there and was a pleasure to golf with
Super fast greens
This course is well designed and with breath taking views and challenging holes! Beware of the speed of the greens, they are super fast!

Awesome course - book through Golfnow for the best rate!
Inn of the Mountain Gods.
The course was in unbelievable shape. One of the best mountain courses you can play.
Great Experience
Upon entering the pro shop, we were welcomed by great weather and a beautiful groomed course! The staff was very friendly and efficient with checking us in! The Marshall helped with slow play and the course was absolutely beautiful. I definitely hope to come back real soon!
Great Course! Great Deal!
We booked online with Golfnow and was amazed to find a tee time with a rate at $19/person. This was and extremely pleasant course with amazing greens and extreme elevation changes. Many different challenges with doglegs and fairway trees.
The course was in immaculate shape beyond the tee boxes (many were crowned). At $85/round, this course would be nice. At the $19/round I found on golf now, this course was amazing.
The only thing that frustrated me was the short iron only range. Would have liked to have been able to warm up the driver before going out here.
WOW
The view when starting off the first tee is breathtaking. Each hole was well manicured. Each hole had an element of difficulty no matter where the flag is located. Blind shots going uphill and long "look out below" downhill holes make this course fun to play. Watching people go down the zip line on Hole 10 makes you want to try it. A hail storm kept us from finishing but we all plan to return.
Beautiful course with challenging holes.
Great course for a weekend trip. Somewhat challenging but overall friendly. Beautiful and spacious fairways with very well groomed greens.
Great course; unfriendly pro staff
Booked through GolfNow for $85 rate. Initially charged $129.00 plus tax. Informed of my booking through GolfNow and honored rate but Pro Shop manager unfriendly and overheard stating they were going to get rid of GolfNow rate. Employee assisting us was friendly not not the pro shop manager sunce had to override the charge.
Beautiful tough course
Like the challenge of the course. If your trying to get better on your game this is definitely a course to try your hand at.
