Great round of golf
Very fun day of golf at Beau Rivage. Course conditions were good, tee boxes are due for resurfacing but thats about all. Staff are incredible, I live in the area and plan on playing here alot this season.
nice and challenging course
Play here every time we come to carolina beach course was in good condition except for the all the little sand filled holes on the green which is needed to make greens grow good in two weeks it should be real nice to play on the greens
This course is not worth the money
My wife and I play courses all over the U.S. and Canada nd this is one of the worst conditioned courses we've played in years. The tee boxes are a joke - no grass and sloped, the fairways were in poor shape - brown and no grass in many places.
The course layout displayed on the carts is too small to see and with so many blind holes and hidden water first time players are at a distinct disadvantage not knowing the layout.
This course was not worth the $50 for each of us considering we played 4/5 ranked courses in South Carolina and Georgia for $10 less per person.
Would never go back.
Pretty good place to play
Not a bad place to play. If you are with a group the pace of play is pretty well. It is a resort course so most of the people playing are not hackers so the course is always in good shape and the pace is rather quick. Greens are quick, which I love. Course is not very long but demands good second shots if you want to score well. Love the par 3 fountain hole and the finish at 18. Certainly will recommend to some of the guest that stay at my hotel, which I get a lot of golfers there.
Caught them on a Challenging Day
First off...Beau Rivage is one of my favorites in the area. The course itself is sprawling and you will face many different challenges along the way from short but testy par 5's to long par 3 carries over water and into the wind. Just about all greens on the front have a bunker guarding the front edge of the green with slope running away from you. I play here several times a year but have to drive a good distance to do so. Now on to the experience of that day. It was cool that morning (50 deg) up until 11:30 am or so bringing every able bodied golfer to the course at one time from miles around after the Sun popped out sending temps into the low 60's in the PM. The carts were all out on the course being used by the first groups out with none available for new tee-time arrivals ready to saddle up. The Staff was being pushed to the limit to keep some ebb & flow to the chaos. I commend the Pro & Asst Pro who worked it out as well as could be expected under the circumstances. It seemed many of the carts that were sent back out for 18 more in the afternoon either barely made it or limped in like mine without finishing the round. The pace of play was Kevin NA'ish ...no...it made NA look like a speedster. We teed off at 1:45 and made turn at 4:00 or I should say I made the turn...the other 3 in my group (who had never played here before) had long before checked out on the round and left for the parking lot. I hit the back nine to find it totally slammed with slow play even with many not making the turn. I am not sure what happened other than just too many golfers in too short a span of time but I trust the Beau Staff will learn from this day and buy more carts and /or spread starting times as needed to prevent another one such as this. I also strongly believe Golf has to find a way to time carts during play and enforce the pace of play. It's either that or more & more days like this WILL harm the sport.
Having said all that do not let this deter you from this track...I am sure this was a perfect storm & like I mentioned the Pro & his Staff worked it out as best as possible while being cordial through it all ...On a "normal" day these Guys know how to entertain Golfers for a fun day on the links.
Careful
Watch out for dogs, got bit on my leg looking for my ball.
Ho Hum, so so
Interesting layout, conditions might improve in the spring but not a good course for winter play. The tee boxes need resurfacing as they are undulating and sandy. The course staff was friendly and professional.
Mixed bag
Greens are excellent. This is a great course. That is, it's a great course if you've played it before or you're playing with someone who has. There are numerous blind shots, which is bad enough on a first-play course, but when they're busy (as they were when I played it) you either have to wait extra time, ride up to see if it's clear (as I did on at least 1/3 of the holes), or gamble on hitting someone. That's not my idea of a fun round. For a local this is a GREAT course. For a visitor who's never played it before, I'd recommend venturing elsewhere. Oh, and I played it pretty well (in case you may think I'm down on it because of a poor score). As a single, I typically play in 2.25-2.5 hours. This round took 4.5!!! Not cool.
Aesthetically pleasing
From the first tee to the last, this course was a beautiful gem. Slopes and undulation abound. No two greens are the same shape and they all are fast. The course is well maintained and everything about it rewards a player that is striking the ball well...to bad I wasn't!
A Challenge for All
From the moment we teed off to the last putt, my group had a blast. It's not a very long course-sort of short by most standards, but the layout is magnificent. Large and fast greens, plenty of elevation changes and guarded approach shots forces you to play the a different shot.
Fun and shot selection
Nice fun course with lots of shot selection. Some long cart drive between holes but in nice views on the way.
Great weather at Beau
Great time with some friends from out of town. Friendly staff, course in great condition, and AMAZING weather this time of year
My wife and I had a great day!
The overall rating tells all, as my wife and I enjoyed our day of golf and will do it again on our next visit to the Carolina Beach area.
Good value, rates, staff and condition
Pros: challenging course that requires ball workability on many holes. The course was in great condition and the staff was great. Bunkers, greens, fairways and hazard were well maintained and aesthetically pleasing.
Cons: Some construction going on around a few holes. Not enough signage for the players to navigate cart paths between holes. No water jugs/cups on any holes. Not enough yardage markers (GPS would have helped)
Overall great experience and great course. Going to book my next tee time very soon!
Long in the tooth
The course is showing its age. Cart paths are rough and several holes smwlled , apparently due to dead vegetation. Lots of water and dog legs. as well as houses. New apartment construction on the back nine lines the fairways on one side and detracts from the course.
Newbie to the course
Went online on Friday and got a early tee time and glad I did. Was paired with 3 guys from the Raleigh area and we all had about the same skill level. Greens looked like they had been punched recently but that didn't affect the playability any. Had a great time loved the course. The only problem I encountered was we had some members playing behind us that kept pushing us we were playing at a good pace keeping up with the group in front of us. We decided to let them play through and only one of the 3 thanked us. It's like any other course you go to that has members they think they own the place and are just RUDE.
Mostly good
Played on a Friday afternoon in early October as a twosome. Course was in very good condition for this time of year, with my only criticism being the condition of the tee boxes needing some work. The fairways and greens are above average.
The only bad was we got behind three groups of foursomes - some league or other organized group - and our round lasted over 4 1/2 hours and no chance of getting through. The starter did warn us that play would be slow so I'm guessing this was a local group.
Would certainly like to play this course again now that I know where to hit it!
over all not great
I've seen this course in a lot better condition as far as fairways, tee boxes &the rough areas..
Disappointed
The course has a nice challenging layout. But when I played on a Sunday afternoon, it was in need of a complete manicure. It appeared that the greens, tee boxes, and fairways hadn't been mowed for at least a week. So disappointing.
Great staff ,great course
Beau Rivage was a very challenging course that is in great shape. The course design is pleasing to the eyes with cool cart paths. This course is probably my favorite course in the area.
