Good course to shake the winter's rust
Played there with four buddies as our first round of the season. Course was in good condition et greens rolled true. Fairways are pretty tight on some holes so you got to be precise with your driving, which is sometime tough at the beginning of the season. Some holes may look a bit similar, but par three 3rd and par four 18th are two memorable holes.
Reese Jones Notable Course Design
You quickly get the feeling that many factors should be considered for scoring well as you begin with a challenging par-5 up hill and generally against the wind. Many bunkers and other obstacles can keep you entertain until you reach the green. The practice range is well located near the club house and the no 1 tee. For early April, the greens were in very good shape (minus the practice green). The amount of sands in various bunkers tended to vary a bit. For their signature hole, no 18, just aim for the club house or a little to the right, and your ball should easily clear the water - you will be left with either a mid iron or a long iron shot to the green (avoid the bunkers by aiming right of the pin for the second shot).
Love this course
I am not a member of this club. Contrary to some others comments, we were greeted very graciously at the bag drop by an attentive, helpful person. The guy behind the counter in the pro shop was even nicer and very helpful. The young man in the grill was also very nice. The service was excellent.
The course layout is fantastic--very interesting holes with challenges everywhere. It was very playable and fair. The tee boxes, fairways, and rough were in very good shape. The greens need some work. They were recently aerated (a couple weeks I would guess) but they ran very true. Yes, there were some bad spots and the overall look of the greens isn't the best, but they ran true and broke appropriately. They should put some more work in this area.
Having said all this, I would definitely return to this course. The views were great, the challenges fair, and we had a great day of golf.
Nice track!
Everything went smoothly from reservation to arrival at the first tee. Greens were quick and true. I love the layout.
Golf course
The course is very nice and I did enjoy playing it.
Great Track!
February 1st and this course was in fantastic shape, even with all of the rain that we have had. Staff was great and we had a bonus of a 70 degree day in February.
Great Find
For winter time course was in excellent condition. Played the Blue Tees and had a great time. I would highly recommend the course.
Off season but definitely a diamond in the rough.
Went to GN to find a golf course while visiting my son at school. Found Talamore, great experience.! Gene the guy in the pro shop was great, course was in good shape for January, I work at a golf course in Illinois so I know how tough winter can be on a golf course. My experience was so good that I played it again 2 days later. Staff is excellent.!!
Worth Playing
Friendly staff. Course was a little wet but, overall in great condition and beautiful even for January. I will definitely play this course anytime I'm in town. I would certainly recommend this course to anyone looking for a great place to play.
Great design n detail.
Played with a new golfer, so we played the white tees. The weather conditions were wet and we were not able to finish the back nine.
Good landing zones for each shot with strategic placement of traps and natural settings ( pine trees) for errant shots.
Would love to play from the back teed in better weather
The staff was a little shrt handed due to the weather but did a great job.
Solid
Great layout. Greens still showing stress around the edges. Heard they will be replaced with Bermuda next year. If so, this will be one of the best in Pinehurst.
Awesome layout and condition
Highly recommend this layout for all level of golfer. Played the tips and it's all you can handle, but very fair. Greens were larger then most in the pinehurst area but very fair and not terribly fast.
Great course in the sandhills!
I had a blast. Fun shots and if you can generate the shot, the reward is worth it.
Great course
Great course, friendly staff, it was in a very nice shape.
Real Nice Course
Great shape. Challenging layout. Would highly recommend playing this course especially at the price we played it for ($25).
So Glad I Chose to PLay HERE!!
Picked up great rate on GN for this course to play with spouse who is a max handicap player. Maybe it was the overall beauty of this course or the fresh NC air but she played the best round of her life...and I really LOVED this course! It has everything a golfer could want...long forced carries, challenging pin placements, FAST greens with lots of breaks etc.
Staff made us feel very welcome and our starter gave us lots of pointers in our pre-departure brief. Had originally been slated to play with another couple but were given the option to play as separate twosomes which we chose. (Glad we did since other group played a LOT slower than we would have enjoyed) Starter then smiled and said, "First tee is across the street, par 5 600+ yards for the men...good luck and have fun!" What a way to start...and we had a BLAST!
Course plays longer than scorecard indicates and will challenge even the lowest of handicap players. When we caught up with earlier foursome, they quickly let us play through without any hesitation. (Thank you gents!)
Very picturesque course (10th hole from tee box is stellar example) that shouldn't be missed if visiting the Southern Pines area IMHO. Also if you get the chance, head to the Southern Pines Brewery (5 minutes away) to wind down after your round. Highly recommended by staff at course and worth the drive.
Challenging
Lots of hills and bunkers ...lots of fun. Beautiful setting.
Great course, greens need work
The course provided a great round despite the fact the greens are in need of repair. I look forward to playing here again.
It could be so much better
Another course in the Pinehurst area with greens that are dragging the course down. More disease and dead spots than you should have to deal with at these prices. Rumors of greens being updated to one of the newer bermuda blend grasses would be a great improvement. Send the staff some smiles and personalities !
Not what it once was!
Layout is great, fair and challenging at the same time. Staff is very friendly. Biggest concern is the condition of the greens; they are very poor and inconsistent. There is a rumor they will be replacing them with one of the hybrid bermuda grasses in the future. The Pig-pickin event that goes with a group package there is poorly planned with little thought put into what happens when it rains. Love the layout and staff, but improvements better come soon if they want to keep our business!
