Talamore and Mid South Golf Resort

Played in early November, course was in great shape. Greens were true, fairways cut and trimmed, staff friendly and helpful.

Staff was exceptionally courteous! Course was in great shape. Group play tends to back up, but still a wonderful day!

Great course, great shape for late October, enjoyed having to make placement shots, will make time to play it next visit, as much fun as Pinehurst just no caddies, no great Clubhouse or veranda, etc.
...and I played 18 both rounds, who plays 9 ? This is my 3rd yr to take a trip to Pinehurst, have played several other area courses, this take a solid # 2 on where to play.

First time playing at @mid-south, and they forgot that golf was part of the service industry. We showed up about 45 minutes before our tee times (first ones out), and the club house and the range were closed. My local muni has the club house open before sun up to accommodate the first ones out. Constantly hounded to play faster. And I quote, "My boss is going to yell at me if you don't play faster". Course and layout were great, but it seems they just want non-members there to cover their expenses. Maybe they could get more members with an attitude improvement course. Carolina golf is awesome and the other courses were more than accommodating. We were last tee times out at Dormie, and club pro stood in as bartender so we could have a few while the last groups came in. Guess who will get our business next time.

This course is a typical great North Carolina layout. Two interesting local rules made the course a little easier. First one being that there was existentially no out of bounds (hit it in someone's yard and you bring the ball out on the line of entry with no penalty) and the second being that a ball in any wire grass areas also being a free drop. These rules seem strange but I suppose they are in place to speed up play. Course was in great condition with the exception of the greens. They were slow and bumpy as it seems they were struggling keeping the bent grass greens in good condition. Otherwise I really enjoyed my experience on the course.

Our group of 20-24 guys go on an annual golf trip. This is our third trip to NC and also our third and final golf outing to Midsouth. I understand this is a private course offering some tee times to non-members. However, we were treated with no respect and no common courtesy. On the first hole, after the group cleared the fairway we walk to the tee box and the ranger states we are 5 minutes behind pace. Really? He follows us for the next 8 holes each time stating we are behind by 5-7 minutes. Stating he has members teeing off behind our group. On hole 8 he states we should move up a tee, however we are keeping up with the group playing ahead of us. The average golfer in our group of 20 has an average handicap of 6 and we were already playing up 1 tee box. This course is for members only, if your not a member you are treated with no respect. If there course is doing so well why are they allowing outsiders to contribute to their course. I would recommend going to the dormie club or the National where you are treated with open arms. This was our third time playing Mid South and their staff and marshals are without a doubt rude. We haven't even teed off yet and were being told by the marshals were 6 minutes behind the group in front of us. Every two holes were seeing the marshals telling us to speed up and catch the group in front of us. We're not the ones who showed up late and unprepared for golfers.

This wasn't an isolated incident either. We've experienced this kind of service level before from Mid South. We played the front 9 in less than 2 hours and on #10 the marshal told us to catch up with our group in front of us. WE PLAYED IN UNDER 2 HOURS ON THE FRONT NINE 1:55 TO BE EXACT.

Mid South wants the money from outside play, but are extremely rude and inconsiderate to outside guests. If you want to be treated like your money is no good and you do not belong Mid South is a perfect golf course for you.

Our group will never return to Mid South which is unfortunate because the golf course is really nice, but the staff and services leave it less than desirable to play again.

The course is long and beautiful....at the time the greens were soft and a little slow but putts ran true.....always a great time

Excellent layout. I think it has bent grass greens and were a bit shaggy in an effort to keep them alive.

The fairways were in great shape. There are rolling hills and a multitude of bunkers. The greens were not in good shape.

The staff was great from the pro shop, starter, and ground crews.

Played Talamore at 7:45 in the morning...first one off the tee. Greens had been rolled already. Counted at least 8 guys working the course, even at the front drive. Other reviews from 2-3 months ago were critical of bunkers but I found them excellent. Workers were raking and working in the bunkers as we played. Lots of attention to detail. Of all the courses we played in Pinehurst, we enjoyed Talamore the best. We did not play any of the resort courses but we did play 5 other courses. Talamore was in the best condition and was the best design. Other review criticized mounds in fairway...I thought they were cool! Talamore wasn't a boring, flat, typical course like most courses are. Great design with elevation changes, contour, beautiful scenes. Will definitely play again when in Pinehurst.

Love this place (with one exception...keep reading!). Extremely interesting layout, great variety and roll of the land. Very fair; good shots are rewarded. Entire back 9, with exception of #10, really great. Only one complaint: in heat (June-Sept) greens are very slow, perhaps 7 or 8. No good...they've been talking about re-surfacing them for 3+ years but apparently don't have the budget to make this badly needed improvement. Highly recommend, but only if the greens are rolling at least at a 9-10.

It rained on and off the day I played. Although the staff was friendly and accommodating, there was never any discussion on their weather policy. After teeing off on the 10th, the horn blew and play was suspended. While waiting to return to the course, I enquired about a rain check for 9 holes and was told because we teed off on the 10th that wasn't available. Needless to say I was slightly disappointed after driving such a long way to play this venue. Instead of ensuring a repeat customer, by issuing a rain check, they opted to just let us leave on a low note.

We played as a 3-some today, behind a 2-some and a 4-some ahead of them. We waited on every single shot, sometimes for 10 minutes on the tees. There was an impatient 5-some playing behind us that hit into us on several occasions and drove up behind us on the tees. On 16 we saw a 4-some three groups ahead of us that had no one ahead of them for 2 holes. For a resort like this I would expect a ranger.

The course conditions were minimal. The traps were not maintained. There are these stupid moguls right in the middle of some holes which serve no purpose except to stop your ball or leave you with a ridiculous side-hill or down-hill lie.

I shot 79 and it would have been a lot better if the traps had been maintained and the pace of play been better.

All 3 of us agreed we will never go back!

Sometimes average is a good thing and sometimes it's a bad thing. Talamore is a nice average course and I would recommend it as your first course if you are doing a trip to Pinehurst. The course won't kill you and it will get your stay started with a relaxing, enjoyable round. On the bad side, it is in Pinehurst and there are way too many other course options to put this one on your trip itinerary. Just in the area near Talamore alone you have Pine Needles and Mid Pines, two vastly superior courses. The layout at Talamore is fun and it is a bit of a shotmakers course and you really have to pay attention of all of the elevation changes, some as much as two full clubs. Don't forget to say hi to the llamas by the 14th tee.

Fantastic, demanding course in great condition for July in NC. Staff was friendly. We truly enjoyed so much we played the course twice during the holiday week. Only issue was some traps not in decent shape.

Creative layout. Fairways and bentgrass greens were the softest and slowest I've ever played. I respect protecting bentgrass in the southern summer, but course has gone way overboard. Fairways are overwatered and course plays super long. The fairways on the back side need much attention. No course marshaling so pace of play suffered.

Just moved to Pinehurst and wante to play for not a whole lot of money. Was very pleasantly surprised at the condition of the course and the scenery. Would definitely recommend.

My dad retired to the Pinehurst area and we have played a number of courses. Is say Talamore falls in the above average for the area category, but good if you consider courses outside of Pinehurst.

The tee boxes were a little beat up, but the fairways and rough were in great shape. Greens were in good shape, but on the slow side for my taste.

The staff was excellent, and I put average for food because we didn't have any.

All in all I would play here again, but after a few other courses in a similar price range
