Bad greens
Played this course for several years, this was the worst condition I have seen the greens, with bare spots
Rock Barn Golf and Spa
Had some time at the end of my work day, so I decided to check this course out before heading up to VA. I am glad I did. Very nice layout and good conditions. It is a little out of the way, but worth the drive. It was certainly a good value on Golf Now. I would recommend playing here if you get the chance.
Good Course
I enjoy Rock Barn and Jeff Eisenhour always treats you well, play Rock Barn and bring your A game
Not a great experience.
I called the clubhouse a couple of days before for rate information and was told by the gentleman that rates after 1PM are $45 for the Friday I booked. When I arrived the gentleman working the pro shop charged me $55. When I told him that I was quoted a different amount on the phone he said he was sorry but that was not correct. He didn't really care that I had been quoted a different price. Paid $7 for a token for a bucket of balls. Retrieved the balls and discovered that you literally get a handful of balls for $7...very overpriced. Played the Jackson course and was very disappointed with the condition. Fairways were OK, but the greens were diseased and dead in a lot of areas. The rough was so long that if you hit your ball just a foot off of the fairway the ball would disappear and could not be found. I found more balls that weren't mine than those I lost. Not a good course for the money. I was quoted a price over the phone and I feel like they should have honored the price I was quoted. I would not recommend this course for the money.
Great Course (Stay Out of Rough)
I've played the Jones course a few times and now that it has gone private my only option was the Jackson. While not as great as Jones, the Jackson was very good and in great condition all around and a much shorter course. Greens were true but a little slow which is understandable for Bent grass in the summer. The rough was very annoying. Not the thick juicy tall grass but the high fluffy bermuda where the ball just disappears. You literally had to walk right over the ball to find it. Just when I thought I found my ball, it would be another left behind or one cut by the mowers of which I probably found 8. I had 4 tee shots that were just a few feet off the fairway and I couldn't find the ball. Pace was excellent. Teed off at 11:50 Sunday morning as a single and didn't see a group until the 6th green. They wouldn't wave me through so the last 3 holes on the front nine were painfully slow. I jumped them at the turn and played the back in 1hr 15min and didn't see any other players. Glad I made the hour drive from Charlotte.
Too Slow
The course is nice and well maintained and has a difficult layout with a lot of tight fairways and easy to miss greens. I would play it again but the pace of play was way too slow. I left on hole 15 because it was going to be a 5+ hour round and I didn't have time for that with a 30 minute drive back home. They need to get a ranger out there timing people.
Great outing...until the storm hit!
This is a class facility and deserves your attendance and best effort. Championship style layout with opportunities for success IF you concentrate and give your situations attention. Didn't finish the round due to an outrageous storm quickly coming through and doing quite a bit of damage. RB should bounce back quickly and I look forward to using my raincheck.
Great Course
Awesome course, cant beat it.
Outstanding place to play
I would like to extend a warm thank you to the staff, they always put the customer first, and make you feel very welcomed. The course is in excellent shape, and the pace of play was perfect. I would recommend anyone of any caliber or, ability, that they would enjoy everything about this course and its amenities, completely satisfied, and will be back to play!
Always a place to consider
Wonderful course in great condition - tees, fairways, and greens. People in the pro shop are terrific - friendly and accommodating. Generous fairways, well protected, mostly large greens with a good bit of undulation. Many have more than one level. Receptive and roll true. Good value.
Great course-will come back again.
Played this course on Sunday with my typical foursome. Played from the Blue's since the course is on the short side. Had no problems carrying drives across obstacles. The greens were a bit slow because we've had a lot of rain lately, but they were in nice condition. Fairway's and fringes were in excelled condition. A few traps had grass growing in the fringes, but other than that they were fine but a bit packed down due to the recent rain. Overall great course. Will come back in the fall when the leaves are changing for another great round. Get the sirloin burger and a bloody mary at the clubhouse. Everyone in our foursome enjoyed the food.
Best Greens I've Ever Putted On
The first time I ever played the course, i though the greens were the best I've ever played. They ran true and at a descent pace. The past two times I've played, the greens had just be aerated, but in just 10 days they were almost back to their old selves. Love the course and layout, but the price is only right for me during a hot deal.
Hot summer fun
Played as a twosome and zipped around the front nine in about an hour and 40 minutes. Back nine was a little slower due to the 95° heat, And getting behind a couple of slower foursomes. Course is fun to play with several interesting holes. Course was in good condition overall, although the greens were a bit bumpy due to aeration a few weeks ago. Would recommend, especially if you can get it for less than $50.
Great golf course
Plush fairways slick green beautifully landscaped and laid out. What a golf course should be!
A Need To Play
Everything about this track is solid. Greens were in great shape. Never had to think about bumping the ball in the fairway. Good layout, nice par 3's. Course was packed but moved right along. All staff (pro shop, cart guys, starter, ranger, grill) were all friendly. Played from the blue tees. Yardage is almost 6000 but probably plays closer to 6200. Will definitely go back.
great layout
Course is difficult. Alot of placement shots.
golf course needs help
I played with 3 members - nice enough guys BUT none of them raked a bunker, filled a divot, fixed a ball mark and ignored the cart signs and parked their carts within feet of the greens. its no wonder the course needs some help when the members don't take care of it. how many times have we heard "its the d**n outside players who don't respect the course"?
Bring your "A" game and a camera!
It was a pleasure to play this course.
I was paired with some awesome fellows and we had a blast.
The course was a challenge but fair, and the staff was top shelf.
Thanks for having me, I highly recommend this one and look forward
To playing Jackson next.
Beautiful
Rock Barn is where I wan to retire to. Love playing both courses
Going private in May 2016
First time playing this course. Heard it was converting to private club in May2016. (The other course at the spa will be public.) Found the course to be difficult due to recent cold weather that delayed the bermuda grass from growing which leaves the fairways very tight. Many bunkers (w/ fine sand) and doglegs. Would have liked to go back, but wont be able to play the private course.
