Bunkers need a lot of TLC
The fairways were like carpet. The greens were smooth even though several greens were patchy. The bunkers were BAD. Not a single bunker had been raked. It looked like they had not been raked in months. Several bunkers had sand eroding. You could see the liners coming through the bottom on over half the bunkers. This place is too nice to have bunkers in this poor of condition.
Spectacular layout, worth every penny
My buddies and I live in Charlotte and play mainly courses around here. And when I booked the tee time about an hour away, they looked at me like I was crazy. But by the 3rd hole they were thanking me for discovering this hidden gem of a course. The staff was highly professional and friendly and the clubhouse and bar had the feel of a resort that we were welcome to join. The bloody mary I enjoyed while hitting the complementary range balls was exquisite. The practice facilities included a full practice green and a chipping area that were both in spectacular shape and reflected the speed
Very nice golf course
This was the first time I ever played this course, and it was challenging as it was enjoyable. The price was competitive for a middle of the week round, but the snack bar prices are a bit much. Overall my son and I had a great time playing here.
Nice surprise
We were visiting from out of town. Glad to have opportunity to play this course. First hole was a bit unexpected, but overall a nice course and nice staff.
Love the course
Thoroughly enjoyed playing the Jackson course with my friends. The greens and fairways were in excellent shape. The bunkers were not in the best condition. Hopefully they will be better when we come back
Great track!
First time to Rock Barn. Played the Jackson course. Great layout on a nice property. Outstanding Park 3's. Only downsides were some of the bunkers were unraked and had equipment tracks, and many unfixed ball marks on the greens.
BEST $35 GOLF VALUE YOU'LL EVER HAVE!
Can't imagine a course being more nicely laid out, challenging, fun, beautiful, picturesque and worth playing for $35 than Rock Barn. Gotta be one of the top 2 public courses I've ever played. Went back this 2nd time in same vacation week because it was just so fun and nice and high value. We drove 35 min to get there - totally worth it. Don't miss this course if you're near Lake Norman in NC
Right of the highway
Very good course private club and an open course. Jackson is the course they allowed me to play it was a good interesting layout kept in great shape and alot of fun. There was no one on the course and I just took my time but it was hot.
I can't wait to play it again.
An unexpected pleasure
On a busy Saturday the course choices were limited. My buddies and I had played the Jones course years back and found only the Jackson course was available to non-members. Our expectations were lowered from the reviews we read. Shorter, less challenging and a second choice to Jones was what was anticipated. What we found was a very good layout, with no hole like another, conditions were higher than most public course and the greens were Tournament quality. We had a great time and added this course to our list of courses accessible from Charlotte; 75 mins.
Only the 9th hole was a bit gimmicky - a truncated downhill par 3. The other drawback was the smell of the nearby wastewater treatment plant on the on hole 7. Overall the course was plenty long and the 5,700 yards from the blue tees seemed considerably longer, par 71 was part of the reason. The smaller front greens made up for some of the reduced length. We’ll be back.
Enjoyable Round
I enjoyed my round at Rock Barn's Jackson course. The members were friendly as they joined our twosome as the pace slowed midway through the front 9.
The fairways were groomed and the greens were consistently moderate in speed. The rough, where I spent much of my time, was fair and not over penalizing.
I am looking forward to taking another opportunity to take the challenge at the Rock Barn.
Great course!
Nice and friendly staff, very nice clubhouse and pro shop! Great course design! Tee boxes, fairways and greens were all in great shape. A few of the fringes had a couple small dead/brown spots, a few of the bunkers were in rough shape because of the rain and washout. Other than that, I was very pleased
Great Day
Greens perfect. Fairways nice. Layout is second to none. Plenty of tee options and just a fun place to play. Course well maintained making it one of my favorites.
It used to be nice
Looks like they are either struggling from winter or just don’t put the time in anymore. They had just punched greens which is fine, but fairways and collars are rough. Most courses in the area are back to green not this one. Most tee boxes had no grass and was hard as a rock to get a tee in. Fairways dead circles everywhere, and now they have a ton of “Native” areas (areas they just don’t mow anymore).
