great layout
Course is difficult. Alot of placement shots.
golf course needs help
I played with 3 members - nice enough guys BUT none of them raked a bunker, filled a divot, fixed a ball mark and ignored the cart signs and parked their carts within feet of the greens. its no wonder the course needs some help when the members don't take care of it. how many times have we heard "its the d**n outside players who don't respect the course"?
Bring your "A" game and a camera!
It was a pleasure to play this course.
I was paired with some awesome fellows and we had a blast.
The course was a challenge but fair, and the staff was top shelf.
Thanks for having me, I highly recommend this one and look forward
To playing Jackson next.
Beautiful
Rock Barn is where I wan to retire to. Love playing both courses
Going private in May 2016
First time playing this course. Heard it was converting to private club in May2016. (The other course at the spa will be public.) Found the course to be difficult due to recent cold weather that delayed the bermuda grass from growing which leaves the fairways very tight. Many bunkers (w/ fine sand) and doglegs. Would have liked to go back, but wont be able to play the private course.
Dissappointed
I have played the Jones course several times and this was by far the worst shape that I have ever seen it in. The greens were longer and much slower than they usually have been. The fairways were very average and the course appeared to lacking overall TLC that I have been used to.
Favorite Course
This is one of my favorite courses when visiting the Charlotte area. The first time I made reservations, I did not see that the course was over an hour away from where I was staying. We decided to make the drive anyway and the course did not disappoint. We had a very simple breakfast and hit the course. We played the Jones course and loved every hole and the surrounding area. On other trips, we played the Jackson course and again we were not disappointed. I hope to get back to Rock Barn again and again!
Consistently fair, challenging course
The Jackson course at Rock Barn gets overshadowed by the championship Jones course, but it is a good test of golf. The course is fair, but challenging. The par fours and fives are relatively short for the most part, and the par threes can play fairly long for the most part. The drives on the fours and fives have decent landing areas, but a few holes demand some accuracy off the tee. The greens had been aerated a couple of weeks ago, so they were still a little bumpy, but for the most part, rolled true. The yardages are not marked very well, so be prepared to hunt for distances.
Well maintained course
They had just air rated the greens but other than that the course was in very good shape.
+Excellent challenging courser
A Robert Trent Jones challenge maintained in excellent condition - even playing with recently aerated greens was a treat. Best check it out in April, 2016 as it becomes a private club May 1st. Fortunately the Jackson course will remain semi-private.
Nice course for a change
Interesting course with several water carries and significant elevation changes. Greens always in great shape. Bunkers in good condition. A little expensive for my cheapskate group, but very worthwhile for a change.
This course is a challenge
The fairway are still brown but very playable, the greens are excellent.
Excellent!
Bucket list for anyone!! I would recommend this to anyone and we'll certainly play again.
great track
The Jones course is awesome. It was in great shape and has an amazing layout. Only one complaint, it was a painfully slow round of golf, though the course worth the wait. I just wish hacks wouldn't plum bob a 4 footer for double.
the Rock rocks!
was fun playing with my son's friends from the blue tees even though i am over 70 yrs old. couple of breaks and could have shot my age. i am bragging and have just put pressure on myself. playing well especially was fun to play a course that the sr pga pros played. amazing what scores they shot.
there was a good bit of waiting but still play in about 4:20. of course the great price on GolfNOW set it up.
Great condition.
I played on a $25 hot deal on a Wednesday afternoon. You can't find a better course for the money. Even after having a ton of rain over the past few days, it was pretty dry. Rules were cart path only, but I think 90 degrees would have been fine. Greens were receptive, quick, and rolled true.
Beautiful course in great shape
Really a treat to play the Rock Barn Jones course. Course was in great shape. Greens were rolling beautifully.
Worth the Drive
This is my new favorite resort golf location taking over from Grandover. This is a very scenic location with some really interesting holes - and this is the easy course! There is a premium on being able to put your ball where you need to. Don't be put off by the distance from the blue tees (5900). If you are anything over a 10 it will give you a run for the money!
Great course
One of my favorites. The course never disappoints.
Beautiful but tough.
Enjoyed the day in every way. If you miss the fairway ball is hard to impossible to find in deep grass.
