Subpar Maintenance
This course could be absolutely beautiful and one of the better ones in the are, the Maintenance was just simply lacking, greens and fairways weren’t in great shape.
course
this course is long seems like the winds always coming off the lake I love the greens love the fairways it’s a great course to play
Very Very Nice
Nice greens and fairways. Abby was truly kind, informative, and super pleasant. Thanks course was great!
Bad manners
When we arrived they told us the back 9 was closed. I called the course earlier in the day to add a player and they never bothered to tell me. 45 minute drive. Luckily we were able to get out on another course close by. I've played this course several times and something always goes wrong. Skip it and play the other courses near by for a lot less money!
What happened?
I have played this course many times in the past and the current conditions are nowhere near what they need to be. This is a great Fazio design that deserves better. They need to do something soon before its too late.
Sawmill Aug 2019
This is a fabulous Tom Fazio layout that I used to play years ago as a kid when my family would vacation here. I also played here as an adult about 15 years ago. The pro shop staff and cart attendant were super friendly. I really enjoyed seeing some of the terrific holes again. I am very excited that Cedar Fair purchased this resort, because they are already investing in improvements. During my round they were in the process of putting new sand in every bunker on the golf course. The new sand is beautiful. The greens were excellent! Very fast, but very true. The cart paths in many places need replacement or repair. I expect Cedar Fair will probably pave a continuous cartpath so there are no issues with cartpath only golf when needed. This area, like many areas in the north, received a ton of rain in the spring . As a result some of the low-lying areas have been pretty damaged. In spite of that, the course is still quite playable. Its adjacency to a wildlife sanctuary and marshland, and proximity to the lake make it a beautiful place to play golf. Hopefully the drainage can be improved somewhat while still respecting the natural environment surrounding the course. I will play here again once a couple more of the planned improvements take hold.
Don’t waste your time
No beverage cart, no one in the “club house” to get a drink from, no drinkable water on the course, place let’s 8 some play, the course was either a swamp concrete or no grass, cart had a bad axle, I don’t have anything positive to say about the course other than it could be a decent place if they fixed a lot of the issues mentioned
Very good experience
Very good George Fazio course. Recent flooding made the conditions a bit rough although the greens were great
Course was fine bring your own water no beverage cart or water on course
Challenging
Understandably very wet due to heavy rain day before. Although fairways very playable. Concern traps in poor condition with weeds & lack of sand. Greens good.
Soggy SawMill on Memorial Day
Sawmill Creek is a wonderful course, with some of the largest greens you will ever play. This Memorial Day was a beautiful afternoon, but the previous rains left puddles in Fairways & roughs. They probably should have been CPO, but we're glad they didn't, and we were careful to avoid the wet spots. Greens were slow (compared to their normal speed), rough high & most sand bunkers need help, but again due to weather of previous week. ProShop staff very pleasant, even when playing on a GN Hot Deals (substantial discount from rack rate). The restaurant doesn't open till June 1. Course played long, especially with no roll-out as many shots plugged; a good long-ball player would have scored well today (throwin' darts). No wind today, and pace-o-play our 2some was awesome. Can't wait to play again, soon!
The course
The greens were as good as it gets for public play. Rough was very long, the tee boxes were fair, the sand was like concrete, and the course did not have any restrooms or porta potties on the entire course, that is a tough hold, 9 hole with out using the toilet is very tough whether you are going 1 or 2!
Only 9 holes open
When I got to the course after driving for almost an hour I found out only the front nine was open. Very disappointing to loop the same nine twice.
Best conditions yet!
I have been playing here since 2012. The conditions were incredible for so early in the season. Fairways, greens, it was amazing. I had a wonderful time and can't wait go to back. Thank you Sawmill Creek!
