WOW, what a course and what a day!!
A perfect day of golf on a superb golf course with good friends and good weather.
Early season but the Walker Course has green grass in their fairways. The greens were in excellent condition and putted as true as you’d ever want them.
We were greeted by a friendly host in the pro shop, Chuck, who welcomed us to Clemson.
The starter was also friendly and welcoming. Give a “time sheet” of 4 hours and 12 minutes for our round we were ready to go to the first tee. We struggled a little on the straight but tricky par 5, we were off and running.
We’re ready to go back to the Walker Course in the very near future.
Get ready for a fun and challenging day when you book your next round in Clemson at the Walker course.
Great course.
Fun course with lots of variety and lake views.
Very good course
Good design and a well maintained and managed golf course. Great value for money.
Challenging holes through out, especially from the back tees. Interesting par 3s and 5s. A good combination of short but tricky par 4s and brutish par 4s (#9 is a memorable hole!). Scenic routing on the back nine. Greens are full of very subtle and not so subtle breaks.
Not an easy course to walk - the back 9 is a tough trudge.
A must play in upstate South Carolina. No wonder it is rated the #1 college golf course in the US.
As a Gamecock fan it pains me to admit anything with the name Clemson attached to it is good. That being said this was a fantastic course. The vacant tennis courts was an eyesore but the golf course was terrific and their signature tigerpaw hole, #17 is a sight to behold. Greens were quick. Bunkers were perfect with white fluffy sand. Practice areas were in great shape. Best driving range I've hit on. Played from the purple/white tees. I'm normally a white t box and a mid to low 80's player, (the decade of great music by the way) but shot a 94. Terrible score on the front 51. Recovered to shoot a 43 on the back that felt like a 39. Will be back for redemption of that front side.
Great experience
I have played the Walker a few times and often invite visitors from out of town. The staff are always professional and friendly and the course in top condition, despite the recent snow and heavy rain in the Upstate. The quality of the food and service at the grill is also outstanding, Keep up the good work guys.
Always a pleasure
Wind was whipping on the back 9 but you won’t find a course in better condition in the upstate.
Great place to play
The day was cool and windy (January 1st) so tough conditions. The course was pretty empty with no one waiting to play. We arrived early and were told we couldn't tee off until our tee time--no problem, that's what they are for, keeping schedule. However, the clubhouse attendant was a little rude about it. He made up for it later by letting us head out 15 minutes early. After thinking about it, he probably drew the short straw having to work Jan 1st, so everyone has a rough day/moment. Anyhow, great practice area. Putting, chipping, sand and long range are all available to warm up at or practice. The course is challenging but forgiving. Lots of beautiful scenery with the lake on the last few holes. It's about a 90 minute drive so not some place I play often, but if I were closer, it'd be in my regular rotation of courses to play.
College Football
This is the kind of golf course I could play ever single day and never be bored. I was passing through SC last fall and decided to buy a ticket to Clemson football, quick research I discovered their course, I parked at the golf course, walked to the stadium which is on campus, went to the first half and came back to play 18. I had much of the course to myself. Staff was excellent and accommodating. Played the front 9 listening to the rest of the football game, back9 has a lot of water and plays mostly of the lake on campus. An absolute gem and worth the 3 hours I went out of my way while being in the Charleston area. Counting down days until I can play here again. I wish they sold pin flags but they do not.
