Seasonal Condition
Overall course in good shape for this time of year.
Well-conditioned with Many Tees
The staff at River Oaks was very kind and helpful; from the pro shop to the snack shop, and the guys who handled the bags and the carts. The course was in really good condition for February. The greens were consistent albeit with fair amount of sand and running fairly slow, but were quite true given the time of the year. There were multiple sets of tees which allows folks to play from 4800 to 7000 yards or so. The architecture overall is a bit banal but for a practice round or beginners or playing with your children it’s a great place. I’d like to play it again in season to see what the conditioning would do to the course difficulty the kids play for free is excellent overall a nice track especially for a very reasonable price. I would certainly play there again.
Great course, very friendly gor higher handicaps. Conditions were great for being February.
Every time!
We try to play River Oaks every time we're in Myrtle Beach. The course is in very good condition and the team does their very best to make it a great outing. I highly recommend!
This course is likely better when it drys out
Played golf here in the afternoon giving the course time to dry out from last week ends rains and apparently the rain the week before. It was cart path only on a few holes but this definitely slowed up play. We played in 4 hours and 41 minutes including waiting for 23 minutes on the tenth tee!
I like the course layout and some day will likely golf here again for the value golf I chose to spend.
Had fun within our group but rough conditions made the golf difficult.
Double Bogey
The course was very difficult due to the conditions. Almost every tee shot plugged due to the poor drainage. If you choose to play there make sure it hasn’t rained in the past month.
Only made 9 hours cause starting pouring rain. Front 9 was nice layout and in good shape for February. Staff very friendly and gave us rain check for other 9 without any hesitation.
Overbooked and slow play
Classic Myrtle Beach Course in that they overbook leading to seriously slow play. Twosome on front of us routinely waited for the green to clear despite being 280 out and hitting it 180 at best. I get that they couldn’t go anywhere but read the room. Unnecessarily waiting for the green to clear holds up everyone else behind. Ranger just kind of shrugged his shoulders. Double teeing is a recipe for disaster. Also the starters were hot to trot to get me out at 10:10 am despite having a 10:30 tee time. Good thing I arrived early to warm up. Myrtle Beach starters seem conditioned to rush you to the first tee regardless of how early you arrive. Course was in good shape. The practice green was running 11 on the stimpmeter while the course was more like 10.
Played following heavy rain so cart path only (I am 80 )The starter paired me with a local who was very friendly and a good playing partner. Great layout that I look forward to playing again with drier conditions
