Enjoyed the day very much. We were down from Pa. for a softball tournament. We were permitted to play with a fivesome. There was no one in front of nor behind us. We were done playing in four hours .Course was in great shape. The pro shop, cart attendant and starter were all very friendly.
First time @ River Oaks
Great layout and from tee to green was awesome, a couple of greens were so so but for the price and staff being A+ it was a great time and have already booked another day
Great app
Great app, very easy to use and I would 100% recommend this to anyone
Average
Course was laid out really well. It was terribly dry. Tee boxes were tore up and very difficult to get your tee in the ground. The greens on the front nine weren’t in very good shape. Sand on the entire course wasn’t good either. Practically mud in the center. Loved the course design. It’s challenging and has its fair share of places to get in trouble either with water or trees. Back nine was in lots better shape, greens were good. Fairways and tee boxes too. Great staff and players on the course were friendly as well. The rate is a little high for the courses current conditions but that being said I’d still pay it to play again.
Amazing River Oaks
I played the 27 holes course years ago and it was a mess. Decided to give it another shot. So glad I did. The Bear 9 has fallen victim to developers so the Fox 9 and Otter 9 are the 18 holes now. Staff hospitality was off the charts with Randy at the Bag Drop, Scott in the Pro Shop, and “OB” the Starter. I’ve never met better at any course in MB and I’ve played them all. The course is a fantastic layout with great diversity. It was designed extremely well, challenging but fair. Hit the shots to the right spots and you score well. The tee boxes could use a little smoothing out but overall they weren’t bad. The fairways were absolutely perfect, with driving range mat-like club/turf interaction. The bunkers were full of sand and well maintained. The greens were a little on the slow side, compared to the upscale courses’ quick greens, but were in great condition and rolled true. The Cart Lady showed up 4 times during our 1:00-5:00 afternoon round which was unusual but showed how much the staff truly cares about their customers. Pace of play was spot on, just as OB suggested it should be. If you don’t want to waste money on upscale courses in the area, give River Oaks a try. You won’t be disappointed.
Fun day
First of all, i got turned around on my directions, so i called the pro shop and the desk manager was super nice and worked me in, I couldn't get off right away, because i missed my scheduled tee time, so i spent about 15 minutes talking with the starter Ron, he was great guy. i would love to play this course again in the future.
Value Pick
Not the nicest course in the Myrtle Beach area. But when playing during peak golf season the course is a good value for what you get. While most other courses were wanting $100 plus to play. River Oaks was $52. The biggest knock on the course is it needs some water really bad. Ground was extremely hard. Fairways were thin. Greens rolled smooth but on the slow side. Bunkers were raked. But the sand in them was full of rocks. Carts were old and the cart paths rough. The conditions did seem to get better on the second 9. The fairways and greens and tees all seemed to look better. Anyway, it’s not a terrible course. And you get what you pay for. The layout is relatively tight with narrow fairways and small undulating greens. Several holes with water. Although few force a carry. Most are to the sides of the holes. The layout is pretty interesting and fun to play.
1 is a long straight away par 5.
2 is a short dogleg left par 4. Trees prevent you from cutting the corner. And you probably want to hit less than driver here. I hit driver and went threw fairway into the houses on far side.
3 is a medium length par 3 over a waste area.
4 is a medium length dogleg left.
5 is a short par 4 with water hidden on the right you can’t see from the tee. Layup short to take that out of play.
6 is a long par 4 it moves slightly left off the tee.
7 is a short par 5. Dogleg left. A bunker and a small pond really pinch in the landing area.
8. Short par 3 to a really elevated green.
9. Longer dogleg left par 4 with water right of green.
10 is a medium length dogleg left. With water left of the fairway.
11 is a short straight away par 4. Again. Water left of the hole.
12 is a medium length par 3.
13 and 14 are both relatively straight away shorter par 4. Now there is water on the right.
15 is a longer par 5. Water all down the left of the hole.
16 is a medium length par 3.
17 is a medium length par 4. Dogleg to the right. With water all the way down the right.
18 is a slight dogleg right par 5. Good finishing hole with a chance to get close in two good shots.
If you want top of the line and have the money. Go to Barefoot Resort. If you wanna round that want break the bank and aren’t gonna complain about less than perfect conditions. This is a good choice.
Good value. Course is it good condition and friendly staff.
