Barony course Photo submitted by JIMMYLAW77 on 01/10/2018
Rained out !
I didn't get to play because a thunderstorm started 20 minutes before my tee time.
False advertising
Booked online. At rate of $120. When my friend arrived, he asked for the local rate as he was a local resident. The women refused and said he would have to pay $170. He refused see and left. I called the heritage collection and cancelled the tee time. They said no problem. An hour later I received and email from golfnow saying port royal had told them we didn’t show for our tee time and therefore charged me the $240 for 2 players. Port Royal refused to credit me or give me a rain check. I won’t return there
Nice course, but…
…nothing special. No GPS on carts, Greens were aerated and sanded heavily, yet no advance notice, staff would be considered friendly for a course in the Northeast, but not the south, tee boxes need some work, etc. average experience for an area that has many exceptional experiences.
Terrible
If you enjoy doglegs and aerated, sandy greens, this is your place. Every single hole has a dog leg. Like you had room for 14 holes but had to make 18. Not a good experience and I won’t be back.
Course conditions have deteriorated since playing here last year, greens are poorly maintained, crabgrass and huge ball marks covered almost every gre
Needs to be mowed more frequently, fairways and tee boxes had not been cut recently (2-3 days). Layout of the course was nice but just didn’t feel like it was on the same level of maintenance as the many other courses on Hilton Head for the same price.
Not Worth the Money
Save your money, and find a more affordable course. For a course to cost nearly $150 to play a single round, one would expect the course to be perfect. While the fairways were pretty meticulous, the green had many black spots and dimples, were folks did not repair their divots, and looked more like a course you’d pay less than $50 for a round. The day that I went out, they were also doing maintenance, which is not unusual for an early tee time, however, we were not told beforehand. Clearly, they had just mowed the fairways, and had blower tractors out. They followed me from box to box, shutting down their tractor to allow me to tee off, then driving in front of me blowing dirt and grass clippings in my face. I don’t intend to play this course ever again. At this rate, I could find the same course conditions and play two rounds, and even if the experience was the same, at least I spent a lot less money. Quite honestly, writing this review makes me wish I had asked for my money back.
Best condition in years!
Challenging course, beverage cart made two rounds which helped in the heat, and the best course maintenance shape in years. Fun to play.
Hidden Gem!
Just finished playing Port Royale Baroney course and had a very enjoyable day. Course was in great shape, greens were 10 on the stimp and pace of play was excellent as we didn't have to wait on one hole and we were a 2-some. A lot of dogleg lefts and water coming into play. It's a fun course to play and a great value for the price. I highly recommend.
Pace of play.
Front nine played quickly. Foursome jumped in front on back nine, slowed pace considerably.
Course condition
The course was in very good condition and very well maintained. It was very challenging because of the windy conditions.
Why are rangers such a-holes?
Overall, a challenging layout. It’s tight, for sure, but off-track balls are definitely findable. Course — in my opinion — has fully recovered from its end-of-May aeration.
The ranger on Monday was having a bad hair day, apparently. We kept up with group in front of us, yet he told us least three times that we were behind pace (easy to figure out…we teed off 10-15 minutes late!). I get that marshaling is a thankless job, but good God, man!, don’t make it your goal to tick people — people on vacation, no less — off!
A Generous course for a generous price
The Barony course was a pleasant surprise. Despite its age (and a few of the holes show it) it’s a fair course for the beginner/intermediate player With wide fairways and short distance. The greens were in good shape and had some break. I’m coming back to play here.
First Timer
This course was a shot in the dark as I had not played or been to the island before. I booked a tee-time with GolfNow and took a chance. I was not let down. From the first interaction with staff they were friendly and very helpful. The course was in peak condition with the fairways being dang near perfect and the greens rolling true.
Wedding Party
My husband and his groomsmen went to this course for a pre wedding round of golf. It was reported to me by my family that the young man who took care of them in the pro house was rude and racially profiled them to the point of providing poor service. Also, he was very rude to the other female employee, Carol, when she was providing service to the group. We were happy to pay for great service so it was disappointing to hear that basic hospitality was not possible during this visit.
