Moody Gardens
About Moody Gardens
Moody Gardens is a large resort and attraction area with a hotel, conference center and 18 holes of golf in the coastal town of Galveston, Texas. It is well known for its three pyramids home to an aquarium and rain forest attractions. It has not only an onsite waterpark but is next to Schlitterbahn as well. There are six dining concepts, as well as a spa and fitness center. It's within easy access to historic downtown Galveston, Pleasure Pier and the beaches. The golf course originally opened in 1989 but was totally redesigned by Peter Jacobsen and Jim Hardy in 2008. This watery layout features scenic views of the gulf, bridges and bayous, and the back nine plays alongside the small Galveston airport. The course is links-inspired with gulf breezes and wall-to-wall paspalum turf. Historic Galveston is less than an hour's drive from downtown Houston, making Moody Gardens a popular day trip destination as well as for weekend vacation getaways.Facts

Great golf on the Gulf!
A very well maintained and challenging golf course. The staff is very friendly and helpful, and the cart girls always seem to know when they are needed. If you're a golfer, you it to yourself to play Moody Gardens.
Mid-July Round
The course layout and the greens were amazing. I was shocked at how nice the course was and the terrible shape the bunkers were in. Half of the bunkers haven’t been worked and there were weeds growing in a lot of them. There was no lip on any of the green side bunkers. Besides the bunkers, the course was very fun and challenging and I would definitely play it again!
Best overall course
The course was in amazing condition. The greens were the best well kept I’ve ever seen. Staff was very friendly and helpful. The Pelican cafe was delicious and great portion & prices. Excellent experience all around.
Wonderfully maintained fairways and greens
It was an unexpectedly super experience when I played this course. In all my years I’ve never played a Texas course with as well maintained fairways and greens as this one. I certainly didn’t expect this with a course in Galveston Island.
Hiring irons and fairway woods off the deck was a dream. Loved the play of the fairway turf and greens.
The course is long. But has 6 tee boxes to accommodate different player levels. Lots of water, mostly along the sides of the fairways.
I definitely look forward to playing this course again!
pace of play
pace was very slow we waited for a long between everyshot
Moody Gardens
Course is in great shape, was a pleasure to play. Not crowded at all, lots of tee times available.
Unbelievable conditions on a good level
Fairways and greens are arguably the best I’ve played. Great time, highly recommend!
Great conditions after a rain storm
Played here on our anniversary but our tee time got pushed due to a 3 hr rain storm. I was thinking we needed to get a raincheck; practice greens were completely flooded, but after the rain stopped, those greens plus the fairways started draining FAST. I've never seen a course drain this quickly after that heavy of rain fall. It was still cart path (obviously) but still very playable. The grille is stocked with a full bar and food reviews didn't lie but options were limited. Only thing available were breakfast tacos, which were delicious!
Pros - Great conditions throughout, drains well after rain, fast pace, cool views of the Moody Garden's Pyramids and attractions inside
Cons - Tight fairways with lots of hazards, food options were limited, pricey for a weekday tee time
Great course, fun day
Scenic and uses water and sand well to sharpen the course play. Pace was a little slow
Great Round
Course conditions were excellent, pro shop staff were very friendly and overall a great experience on our three day stay in Galveston.
