Moody Gardens
About Moody Gardens
Moody Gardens is a large resort and attraction area with a hotel, conference center and 18 holes of golf in the coastal town of Galveston, Texas. It is well known for its three pyramids home to an aquarium and rain forest attractions. It has not only an onsite waterpark but is next to Schlitterbahn as well. There are six dining concepts, as well as a spa and fitness center. It's within easy access to historic downtown Galveston, Pleasure Pier and the beaches. The golf course originally opened in 1989 but was totally redesigned by Peter Jacobsen and Jim Hardy in 2008. This watery layout features scenic views of the gulf, bridges and bayous, and the back nine plays alongside the small Galveston airport. The course is links-inspired with gulf breezes and wall-to-wall paspalum turf. Historic Galveston is less than an hour's drive from downtown Houston, making Moody Gardens a popular day trip destination as well as for weekend vacation getaways.Facts

Love this place
Love playing here every time I come to Galviston . The fairways are perfect and so are the greens. Bring bug spray, the mosquitos are crazy!
Great course. Bring bug spray
The course was amazing and we got the Hot Deal for 1/2 off. The starter warned us before the round about the mosquitoes and he wasn’t lying but we had spray in our bags already. Don’t hesitate to play this course
Moody
Greens and fairways were in great condition. Wind switched directions during the round, which caused me to really think about the right club to hit and avoid water. Number 18 was challenging but fun.
Very Windy Day
Course is very expensive for what you get. I wish I liked the course more, but the site is very flat and many of the holes are just not memorable. Course conditions for this time of the year were good.
Pace of play was great because I am sure the wind kept people away. Course is worth a play if you can get a deal, but not for the rack rates.
Aerated with a porthole auger
Not a bad course except the greens are aerated with a fairway aerator. They didn't put enough sand and now the greens are just bumps. Terrible job. #18 is a ridiculous par 4. There's no safe area off the tee that leaves you a reasonable approach. Otherwise not a bad course.
John at the Proshop has the worst customer service
The service with the pro-shop manager, John, was bad to the point that I am suspecting Jhe was discriminating against our 4-some. Even other employees behind the counter were looking at John amazed by his attitude towards customers. The course ownership needs to pay attention!
Nice course, to expensive
The course is in good shape, the greens are fast and true. The price is dumb, you can play a course in Houston for half the price in the same condition. We had the first tee time of the day, paid for a twosome, since there was just 2 he said we had two wait to be paired up with the next tee time that also only had two. Explain the logic behind that. If I’m first off the tee at 6:50 am why does it matter. Also it was Sunday and there’s was no beverage cart person. Great course but save your dollars, play somewhere else.
Hidden Gem
This is a wonderful course hidden off the Beaten path in Galveston, Texas. It's a municipal course that's in incredibly great shape for a muni. The greens roll true and fast. There's water on virtually every hole. And you have to think carefully about course management because of the wind that comes off the ocean and sweeps across the course.
The staff is very friendly and professional. The carts are new also.
We look forward to playing this course again.
Disappointing Conditions
We have played Moody Gardens many times, but in all honesty this is the worst we've ever seen it. To be fair, it's a transitional time for turf, but unlike any of the other courses in the area, Moody was covered with tufts of poa anna, which was particularly a problem on the greens. Even more inexcuseable, the tee boxes were virtually all bare dirt & looked like the markers hadn't been moved in months. In addition, the front 9 was very wet, even though it hadn't rained in over a week.
All in all, we won't be coming back anytime soon, so please be forewarned.
Mosquitos
It Would be wise to tell us That at twilight it is full of mosquitos !
Horrible moment
In response to a recent review, we want to clarify the situation with Mr. Nguyen's booking on March 30, 2024. Mr. Nguyen arrived 10 minutes late for his 12:40 pm tee time, and with the necessary check-in process, his group would have been 20 minutes behind schedule. Given the full tee sheet due to Easter Weekend and Spring Break, the next available slot was at 3:20 pm. We offered this to Mr. Nguyen, respecting the schedule of other players who had arrived on time. Our decision was solely based on maintaining fairness and order, with no other motivations.
