Great links-style course.
Loved it. The rough is strange to us Yankees, and sometimes you had to be directly over your ball to see it if you wandered off the fairways. But the fairways and greens were in great shape. The greens are immense, but with no wicked pin placements or really difficult reads. They say you can walk 18, but you'd have to be in great shape; there is quite a bit of elevation change, and some of the green-to-teebox distances are substantial.
very enjoyable and challenging
Kiln Creek is a very scenic course with a lot of undulation. Course is spread out through a housing development which makes a cart pretty desirable. Area has had a lot of rain recently so course was somewhat soft and greens held everything. Nice turf on greens. They putted very well considering the amount of rain. Only negative about course were a couple of blind hazards which can surprise a first timer.
Rainy Day
The wetness effected my play in the beginning. I was a single and wanted to play with another single. He wasn't interested but he pressed me on every hole until I asked him to go ahead. The course was good in any case. I would play it again but hopefully under better conditions and hospitality.
Great value
Well maintained course with friendly staff. I am sure to play here again.
Poorly run. Won't go back.
Most poorly run course in the Hampton Roads area. It's a convenient location but I won't give them anymore business. I will happily drive to suffolk and Williamsburg for better courses at similar prices. The layout is fun and practice facility decent. Don't expect to have food and beverage if you have an afternoon tee time. No cart service on the course.
Very enjoyable round on a well kept golf course.
The only thing keeping me from rating this course as 5 stars is the state of the sand traps. Most were very thin of sand or only packed clay. Greens all in very nice condition. Play was slower than I thought it would be, waited on every shot. But it was a lovely day and more people were out to enjoy the course and the weather.
KC is ready for play
Greens and fairways are in good shape. Rough is thick, but it has been cut. Sandtraps ...hmm wasn't in them.. lol was told they had little rocks. The course is in really good shape
Wonderful course
Although the course was dry it was in great shape.
Great course for the price you pay
I've only played Kiln Creek twice now, the first time was a while ago so I didn't quite remember how it was. When I went with my stepdad this weekend, we were pleasantly surprised.
Good features:
Fast pace of play/not crowded
Well-groomed fairways
VERY well-groomed greens (moderately quick too!)
Some very gorgeous holes
Good combination of difficult and easier holes
Just a fun course!
Features that could use improvement:
Some lumpy tee boxes
Inconsistent rough (different lengths/weeds in some places)
Quite a few hard-pan spots
Bunkers were surprisingly packed for how dry it has been
Overall this was a really nice course, and I will definitely return soon!
Nice contours and greens.
The course is usually in good shape but this time the greens had been plugged and sanded and GolfNow didn't note the condition of the course. I would have waited a few weeks before I scheduled a tee time.
needs attention
Bunkers are nearly all clay, very little sand. Rough in many areas of the course hasn't been cut in weeks. Greens are in very good condition, hold, and roll true.
This course was a good deal for the price and it was challenging,
There were some areas that required maintenance but overall the course was in very good shape.
Huge potential. Just needs some TLC
Would like to go back under better conditions. Hopefully they can clean it up. Played after heavy rain but it seemed like it was in need of some TLC before that.
Kiln Creek
Most of the course is in really great shape. The greens were fast and challenging. We have had a lot of rain here recently so most of the course was wet. Should be in great shape during the summer.
swamp
this course needs help and is not worth the money.
beautiful course , rude people
Great course, I love playing here , very rude people working here though . I barely drove off course when I was approached by two men in a cart , one said he worked there and very rudely told me to stay on the cart path , when I explained I just went into the rough about 12 inches because of a puddle , he again reminded me he worked there , then his group of three I was behind eventually turning into 4 would not let me play through , its obvious he grew up away from a golf course.
The course was well maintained. The price was excellent for the course.
I enjoyed playing at Kiln Creek. The course was not crowded and it was well maintained. The price provided by golfnow.com was excellent. I would recommend this course to friends.
Rocks in sand traps. Go figure.
WAS RUNNING LATE FOR MY TEE TIME BY 10 MINUTES SO CALLED AHEAD TO LET PRO SHOP KNOW. GUY THERE SAID HE WOULD HAVE TO MOVE MY TEE TIME BACK. WAS NOT THE MOST CORDIAL OF FELLOWS. WHEN I ARRIVED FIND OUT MY TEE TIME WAS MOVED BACK 1 HOUR AND 20 MINUTES. NOT COOL. HAD BOOKED WITH GOLFNOW BUT THE GUY ATTEMPTED TO CHARGE ME AGAIN AND FULL PRICE AT THAT. NOT COOL. ON TO THE COURSE. ROCKS IN THE BUNKERS. REALLY! SCUFFED A FEW BALLS THAT WAY. LOTS OF GROUND UNDER REPAIR AREAS. ESPECIALLY AROUND, YOU GUESSED IT, THE SAND TRAPS. LOOKED LIKE DINOSAUR TRACKS. INSPITE OF THIS HOWEVER, STILL ENJOYED
THE COURSE ITS SELF. THE LAYOUT OF THE COURSE MADE ME
REMEMBER I WAS THERE TO ENJOY A GREAT ROUND OF GOLF.
HOLES THAT WERE MEMORABLE AND FUN.
Challenging Course
We played a day after it had rained, and the course was very wet and very muddy. The course is very hilly; pair this with the wet conditions and it made for a challenging morning. Because of the conditions, it was 'cart path only', which slowed us down considerably. I would like to play this course again under better weather conditions.
Again
The fairways were very very dry and the bunkers were hard and trashy.
