Must-play Salish Cliffs growing up nicely.

Three years after it opened, I'm happy to report that the environmentally friendly Salish Cliffs has only improved with age and that's saying a lot because it was already one of Washington's best public courses. The Gene Bates' 7,250-yard course, offered as an amenity to the Little River Casino 20 minutes from Olympia, was in excellent shape when it debuted and pretty much flawless this time around. Best of all, though, it's interesting throughout. I especially like the double green shared by the ninth and 18th that work around a lake, but it's hardly the only highlight. Built on 320 acres, there are plenty of interesting holes, including the last six which are all good tests.

This course is nice but way to expensive

I have played this course 5 or 6 times. I've played in the winter the fall and the summer. It's out in the middle of pretty much no where and is way to expensive to play on a regular basis. I brought my girl friend with me to show her the views, the course and the casino and I had to pay a $20+ Riding fee for her. Just a little ridiculous, especially when it cost $100+ to play it and I have to drive 2 hours to get there. I wouldn't say its in the top 10 best courses in the state. All the hot deals are way to late in the day and still are more then my family and I would like to spend. I would rather play suncadia any day of the week, the hot deals are cheaper and the course is ridicoulously nice. I shoot on average between 75 and 80 when playing from the tournament tees there and $100 just is not worth it!!!!!

You have to compare the price to other realistic comparables. This is golf digests 2nd rated public course in Washington. Chambers Bay, Newcastle, Wine Valley, Gamble Sands all cost more.

Outstanding Course

Outstanding Course. Greens and fairways were in excellent condition. The elevation changes offer gorgeous views. Great course set up as well as great and courteous staff from the bag drop attendants, and restaurant servers to the pro shop personnel.
The club house food at the "The Grille" was very tasty and they offered a good variety and nice ambience.

What happened to Salish??

I just had to write this because I was very disappointed in the condition of Salish.

I come to Salish very often because it is usually a very manicured and well maintained.

When I stepped up to tee off on 1, there was sand all over the tee box. I play the tips and I noticed on several holes there was tons of sand on the tee boxes.

There were 3 tees that had no markers on them???

The fairways on a few holes including 9 were disgusting. It is peak season and there is no excuse for very poor quality fairways when you are charging nearly $100.

The most disappointing part of the day was the Slow greens. It's really too bad that nobody maintains this course anymore.........

They need to really step it up!

My Favorite local Course

This is a very scenic and immaculately maintained golf course. The amenities are first class; electric golf carts, titlist range balls, practice area, etc. etc.You have to be very accurate with your shot selection. This course is set up to reward you with good shots, and punish you with bad shots. I nicknamed this course the Unforgiven golf course after the Clint Eastwood Movie. I would play this course more often, but the green fees are too high for my retirement budget.

Supurb Golf Course

The best course we have played in the Northwest! Course condition could not have been better. Tee boxes, fairways and greens were as good as the pros play every week. Food excellent, staff top notch. If this course was closer to Seattle I would play it on a regular basis.

Beautifully manicured

I was amazed of how nice the tee boxes were. The overall condition of the course was outstanding, if there was an immaculate option to select I would've chosen it.

make the drive

Made the drive from Tacoma in about 40 minutes. What a great course. The range was in bad shape where they had the stakes, but from then on everything was exceptional. Plenty of elevation change and pristine bunkers.
The scenery is beautiful . Definitely worth the drive and money.

Worth the drive

I live an hour and a half away but it was worth the drive to play at least once. Immaculate conditions and can be extremely challenging depending on what tees you play. Greens are running slow but true. If you're a high handicapper bring a lot of balls.

First rate

Practice facilities are awesome. The course itself was in great shape, challenging layout. They gave us a bogo coupon to make up for the slow play, but we finished in just over 4 hours, so I guess they actually care about pace of play. The casino next door is nice.

Loveley Facility

Best part: I arrived a few minutes late for my tee time. It wasn't busy so the pro shop assured me it was okay to warm up and go out when I was ready. Super friendly staff. Really windy day, which I don't think is the norm. You will lose a lot of balls if you are not a straight hitter, but I felt the course wasn't too penalizing for a little waywardness. Course was beautiful tee to green. Will play again when I can afford the 3 hour round trip from Seattle.

Tees, fairways, sandtraps and greens in fabulous condition

You can't play a better conditioned course than Salish Cliffs.I can't get over how great the fairways and greens were. They can't get any better. All the tee boxes were flat and grass was plush. The scenery from every hole was worth taking a picture of.
Will definitely play this course again.Good idea to play the tee's boxes that match-up to your game.Tee it up forward would be the way to go if there's any doubt. You'll also definitely want a cart.
