Great course and challenging.
The course is great. The fairways and greens are in pretty good shape. It is challenging due to the layout with changes in elevation throughout the course. I would play it again.
Interesting
The course has a nice design. It is pretty hilly so walking would be a challenge. The greens were average size and slow because of undulation. Fairways small but playable. It was a windy day so it was easy to get in trouble off the tee. Some pretty nice views though and a few memorable holes. Would play again.
cherry hills
fun, scenic, and challenging.
a good deal
I paid $15 to ride on this course, so it was a great deal. I think this course needs to win back players after a number of years of it being in terrible condition. I saw improvement, so I will return if they offer a great deal, not just a good deal.
Course is steadily improving
The new ownership is making great efforts to bring the course back to its former prominence. The greens are in nice shape and the fairways are decent. An enjoyable course and is steadily improving!
Interesting course.
This was a nice, somewhat challenging course. You have to know where to place your shots because of the lay of the fairways which I will know the next time I play. The course was dry (lack of rain) but not their fault. I thought the greens were excellent. I will play there again.
Great course for the locals........
The course just wasn't up to my expectations for the Door County area. The signage directing me to the course was poor. No clue as to where to park, other than the hotel parking lot. No signs pointing to the pro shop. The staff was friendly and helpful as to describing the course quirkiness. Tee boxes were small and poor at best. The fairways just weren't distinguishable from the rough. The greens were in decent shape. If this course needs good examples then check out Alaska golf course and Northbrook CC.
good to see open again.
This course was closed for a few years and is now reopened. Is in good shape but still needs some work to get back where it was when it was at it's best. I will play it again soon.
Goodt timeh
Always wanted to play here. My wife and had a good time. Greens were in great shape!
Nice course, great location
This corse was a great find, I can't wait to play it this summer when the course is in regular season condition. Beautiful landscape, nice people, good carts.
fun course to play
I was looking for a reasonably priced course to play on Door County and saw a couple of tee times available for what a cart alone would cost. After reading other reviews that this course was on its way back after some financial problems I decided to give it a try. It was very scenic, the fairways were decent, and the greens were breaky but slow. The rough was long and weedy as were the tees. Would definitely play here again.
like the elevated tee boxes
course was in great condition ,green fairways challenging greens .love this course
Cherry Hills on the Upswing
I've played this course over the past 20 years and the last few were pretty tough as far as conditions and quality. Happily, the course has pulled a 180 under the current management. Too bad reviews from 2011-2013 can't be removed.
The course is set on a hillside, so expect few level shots. Elevations also offer nice views and good drainage. Even after a ton of rain, the course was well-drained and in great shape. Fairways and greens are well maintained and trimmed. The deep rough is just that- keep the ball in sight of forget about it.
The course is good for intermediate to experienced golfers, though there is plenty of room for beginners. Par 4s offer good birdie chances, as none are too long. Overall, this is a fun course that plays fast and is an exceptional bargain. My guess is it won't be long before crowds come back. It's a very nice course
It's almost back to best ever
There is a new general manager of this facility who has done wonders with the total operation. Greens have recovered significantly from the past three years. The Lodge is open and the bar/grill is in full operation on a regular schedule. This is a great resort complex with the most reasonable prices in all of Door County. The front nine is open with rolling terrain while the back nine is partially wooded. This course is worth your exploration, you will enjoy your experience. All greens have a "break" toward Lake Michigan.
Coming back
Cherry Hills golf course has fallen on hard times but new management is starting to bring back the fun resort golf facility. Neglected repairs are being completed and course conditions are improving on a daily basis. All putts still break toward Lake Michigan.
A work in progress with great potential
AS others have noted, previous ownership just let the [lace go. The current management is doing everything they can to bring the place back. The greens are true,, a few are a bit bumpy but I have seen the same at lots of other courses this year in three states. The back 9 is the gem of this course. 11 and 15 alone will bring you back. 25 bucks to play, The burgers are better than most in the county.
A-O-K
This course is fun and challenging. Front 9- pretty simple wipe open areas and big fairways. Back 9- hard/ fun narrow fairways and interesting hole locations.
If you wanna get out there and play a challenging and interesting course this one does great job testing all parts of your game.
golf course in need of some TLC.
This is a great hunk of real estate that has obviously been neglected for quite some time. I understand that at one time this was quite a golf course but that previous ownership had allowed for the decline. Current staff seems, quite aware of the conditions and well intentioned. With the amount of traffic present on a Friday afternoon, there should be the start of an influx in the capital that will be required to get this course back on its feet. Unfortunately, with limited golf resources at my disposal, I would not return while the course is in the present state. Should I return to Door County, I would rather pay a little bit more for another DC attraction.
Much improved in 2014...
I've always liked Cherry Hills, unfortunately the course had fallen on some harder times in recent years. The current management is making a concerted effort to improve the course, and it is much better than it has been in the last several years. The staff was friendly and helpful. It's not the best course in Door County, but I think it offers a fun change of pace from other courses in the area, I would go back to play again.
Rough shape
The resort is closed and the bank now owns the resort and course. The course is being leased and is slowly improving but it is in very rough shape. We played 13 yrs. ago and it was a better course. Needs a new owner who can afford to put some money in it.
