It’s easy to forget about the grain of the grass, but in this tip Ander Rice explains how the grain should determine the type of chip shot you hit and what club you should use.

Andrew , I like this tip. I have had success with this technique and never understood why it worked. It just seamed easier to use the lower lofted club. Thanks for the heads up.
Hi Andrew, i find around the green, the lie is tight and the grain into you. Bounce sees me blade the ball. Do you have suggestions? Regards, Jeff
Hi - the issue I have is that I tend to 'thin' the ball and hit the ball flush in the middle (and it flies way across the green!). With increasing the bounce angle, doesn't this exacerbate this risk?
Wow. Excellent tip. My Renegar wedges give me great control over increasing/decreasing bounce, but I never thought it would make that much difference applying this to the grain around the green, only in sand. This should really help avoid the occasional embarrassing chunk.
