Instructors Nathalie Sheehan

Great iron contact is as easy as swing back, stop, and drop. This drill from Nathalie Sheehan will help you avoid an old swing myth and teach you how to deliver the club to the ball effectively.

Is this approach only applicable to iron shots? Will this improve hybrid shots?

Very good idea. Can't wait to try!

Hey Ryan C. you are correct about the lead arm/torso connection, but that's more about the setup/take away concept, most everyone has a "good" setup! This dvt is about your arm action from the top of the backswing, where most of us "panic"!
A great easy to execute swing dill.........

The tip of dropping my hands down really made ball contact feel solid. Having just one swing thought is great Best single tip that improved my swing. thanks Nathalie

Disagree with this "tip"/"swing thought". What she is leaving out is keeping the lead arm, and for that matter the trail arm connected to the torso. Her swing is really disconnected at the top of the arms, so there are a lot of variables being introduced that need to be dealt with and new swing thoughts to think. If you keep your upper arms connected at the torso, the trail arm tucks in naturally. You setup with that perfect V and get back to that V at impact. The arms move very little and the lead arm just slides up and down the torso. Watch your favorite pro when they tuck a towel into their armpits during practice. This is what they are trying to instill. Watch/read Ben Hogan, watch Tiger, watch Nelly. If you want a swing thought, think arms glued to torso and turn.

Hi Natalie
Thank you for all your excellent tips.
I would like to know at what stage in the downswing should you turn your hips to face the target? Can this movement start at the top of the swing?

Great drill, Thanks!

Amy: great drill. Ive heard and read this before but its seems difficult to keep hands below the arms. My hands normally want to drop the club head below my hands ( wrong I know) on the way down. Is there like NO tension in your hands/wrists on the way down to 9 oclock?

Interesting drill idea. How do you sequence the body weight shift? Does the weight shift follow the swing of the arms or precede?
