Favorite Course in Ohio
I played Valley of the Eagles for the first time last weekend and was very impressed. The course is in a gorgeous setting, very well maintained and challenging while still fun. Great club house as well. I would highly recommend!
Fast Greens
The overall course was in good condition and the greens were well maintained and running fast and true.
Hidden Gem
A bit apprehensive about my review, not sure If want others to know. Great course. Always treated fantastic by the staff. I would play weekly if I lived in the area. A course where you’ll utilize every club in your bag. I can’t say enough about the staff they make you feel more than welcome.
Eagles
Very nice Nicklaus course but paid $80 for cart path only and a 5.5 hour round. Would go again but pace was bad
Deer Valley?
You'll see Deer in this valley everyday, doubtful on the Eagle. Course has been redesigned/rerouted from its original Country Club days (aka Spring Valley). It's still fun to play, and certainly challenging for this old guy (distance deprived). This day was a week or 2 after fall aeration, so the greens were not fully healed, thus pretty slow. I know that when in prime condition, these greens can be really tricky, kinda grainy (which is hard for me to get used to) The "new" holes (#1,5,14,15, 18) are pretty cool with the view of canyon walls & Black River for the water hazard. When the river floods, considerable damage to the course is common almost every year. Staff is awesome & welcoming -- Barry (Pro), Mike (starter), Ken .....,which sometimes isn't the case with us GN Hot Deals. The restaurant --Black River Tavern, bar & patio is a relaxing 19th hole, especially after losing a ball (or 2) on the 18th par5. Oh, I forgot to explain I got paired up with an old friend for 40+yrs ago (we caddied as teenagers), so we had a very enjoyable afternoon at The Valley.
Staff was very friendly.
The staff gave us great hot dogs after the first nine holes. After we finished the 18th hole, one of the faculty made us laugh with a joke. All an all a great time golfing here.
Valley of the Eagles has a Great Layout
Valley of the Eagles has one of the better Layouts for public courses on the West side of Cleveland.
The greens were much slower than expected and took some practice putting to get used too. The greens used to be much faster.
The blue and white tees were moved way up on most of the tee boxes. Playing the blues was basically playing the whites and playing the whites was basically playing the golds. This made the course play far easier than the yardages, course and slope ratings stated on the score card which took away any real meaning of the score obtained. It appears that they may be moving up the tees for weekend play to speed up play and possibly increase revenue on busy days. I understand that tee boxes need repair and rest so the tees need to be moved, but this was not apparent because none of the tees appeared to be moved back that day.
MOST OVERRATED COURSE IN NEO.
Very slow play. VOE foursomes do not allow 2-somes to play thru. A ranger was present, but did nothing to speed up play. No driving range. No GPS on carts. Had to change carts at turn due to difficulty in starting. The course is one hour from home. And, it is expensive. Ladies like it because it's short for them. I personally hate the course and hope I am never forced to play it again.
Hidden Gem - Elyria, Ohio
An expectionally beautiful course. I recommend all day everyday. A destination Hidden Gem in Elyria, Ohio. Needs to be on everyone's bucket list.
