Want to play the best public courses in Ohio?
GolfPass releases a Top 25 Public Golf Courses in Ohio every March thanks to YOU. We create our annual Golfers' Choice lists by curating the reviews submitted by everyday golfers. We use GolfPass' Ratings Index logic that weights newer reviews and combine it with a course's subcategory averages.
Each course needed at least two reviews and at least some public access to qualify. Tree-lined fairways riding rolling hills, while featuring a few water hazards along the way, symbolizes much of the Buckeye state's top public golf courses. All three major cities - Cleveland, Cincinnati and Columbus - offer excellent public golf course options.
We make our Golfers' Choice best-of lists user friendly. Simply click on the photo of each course to learn more about the facility or to book a tee time (in most cases).

Best Public Golf Courses in Ohio
-
Ashland Golf Club
Green fee: $35-$67
What they're saying: "Absolutely loved this experience. As a group of 3 with very little experience we thoroughly enjoyed this course. Challenging at times, fun at others but overall a well maintained course with a very friendly staff. Only complaint would be the cart basket was too small for my cooler! And if that's all I have to complain about then I would say this course is great course. Can't wait to come back!" - jeremy44847 -
Virtues Golf Club
Green fee: $54-$135
What they're saying: "Art Hills design that used to be the Longaberger Golf Club. I am always a fan of golf only courses with limited housing on it and this course fits the bill. There are not many courses in Ohio that have a great layout and even better conditions. Must play course." - hornedwoodchuck -
Piqua Country Club
What they're saying: "Beautiful course. Well designed. Staff was so friendly. So happy I found it on GolfNow, and was able to get a feel for the course. Will look into membership, as these greens would be quite the experience in the summer." - CEshelman22

Zoar Village Golf Course
Green fee: $27-$55
What they're saying: "Really liked the course. Some of the toughest greens I've ever played but still would go back. From beginning to end, it was a positive experience. Will definitely be back. Loved the tee boxes, fairways and the greens. All grade A. A place that will challenge your putting skills. Course employees were very personable and friendly. Hope to go back next time (I'm) in the area." - Airforcedad56 -
Cumberland Trail Golf Course
Green fee: $47-$69
What they're saying: "I have played here a half a dozen times over the last few years and I can honestly say it’s one of my favorites in Ohio. Great layout, fast greens (which I prefer), great clubhouse and staff. We played as a twosome behind a couple of slow foursomes but still finished in 4.5 hrs on a Saturday…totally happy with the pace of play. Do yourself a favor and play here if you get the chance…don’t expect Pebble or Muirfield. It’s a great public track that you’ll enjoy." - dl3looney -
Sycamore Springs Golf Course
Green fee: $28-$50
What they're saying: "Greens, tee boxes and rough were still well watered and nice, even with the extreme heat and lack of rain. Greens were a bit fast, but that was expected. Always a nice course to play." - pick0303 -

What they're saying: "The course was in great shape for the time of year, some small fallen branches and leaves scattered about, the roughs were cut a bit longer than I would like. The greens were lightning fast and a challenge to read, hole placement was interesting! Every staff person we encountered was polite, friendly and helpful. Overall, a really great golf experience!" - woodnailer -
Pipestone Golf Course
Green fee: $25-$45
What they're saying: "Pace of play wasn’t the best, started us on 10 because there was an outing and everything was just jammed up but that’s everywhere anymore. Course was phenomenal as expected!" - pete1976 -

What they're saying: "Great pace and good course to play. Some holes challenging which makes it fun." - kgabriel1 -
Briardale Greens Golf Course
Green fee: $16-$37
What they're saying: "I play tons of golf. One thing that drives me nuts is terrible greens. Briardale layout is what it is but what that superintendent has done to those greens over the past 3 years is nothing short of AMAZING. I can compare these greens with Sandridge and Kirtland only. No public course comes close...Only one comes close about 2 hours away called Black Gold a little south of here." -jess112234 -
Snow Hill Country Club

What they're saying: "This old course carries plenty of tradition and uniqueness. Loved the setting and the layout. Staff was super sweet and accommodating. " - wellerrules -

Gleneagles Golf Club
Green fee: $22-$42
What they're saying: "I had a great time today playing here at Gleneagles. For a city-owned course, it was in great shape. The fairways were really nice and the greens rolled true. We had some rain the last week but the course was in great shape. I can’t wait to play here again." - Larry1609735 -
Madison Country Club
Green fee: $25-$59
What they're saying: "The course was really good shape. Couple of spots may have been a little rough but not really in play. Fairways- nice, greens - true and fast, and the rough was generally good with taller grass. Balls a bit hard to find, but hey pay attention or don’t hit there. Among the best greens I have played this year. Good value." - GolfPass Reviewer -
Twin Run
Green fee: $24-$45
What they're saying: "Nice layout with plenty of changes in elevations and some longer par 5's. Course was in nice condition for this late in the year. Got off on time and no delay in play. Greens were fast which was expected with our local prolonged dry spell. I will play again in the future and recommend Twin Run." - Bill8349229 -
StoneWater Golf Club
Green fee: $75-$85
What they're saying: "First time on course and played very true. Upgrade from many local courses. Challenging but easily can be played by golfers of many skill levels. Friendly staff except for the starter. He must of had a bad day but no harm. Well worth it." - rfarina555 -

What they're saying: "Awesome layout, super friendly staff. Pace was kinda slow, but that’s not the course’s fault. Greens were pure. It’s a super fun course." - coylecw
