Pocono Hills Golf Course
About
Surrounded by the Pocono Mountains, the Pocono Hills Golf Course (formerly Fernwood Resort & Country Club) was carefully carved from wooded hillsides. Condos and other residences were later built near the golf course and although they are situated quite close, the round is still enjoyable. The layout is tight with narrow fairways that are lined with trees. The front nine is easier than the back where more dramatic elevation changes come into play. Many of the greens have elevations of over 50 feet, making approach shots a formidable test. There are also a number of tricky doglegs that are practically 90 degree turns. The layout rewards straight, accurate drives and the greens putt fast and true. There are a number of challenging holes, especially the 10th and 14th, but overall Pocono Hills Golf Course is approachable enough for all skill levels.

Greens are terrible
This place used to be one of the nicest now it’s terrible the greens are the worst I have ever played on. There is patchy spots all over the greens were it’s just dirt and we’re not talking on one or two it’s most of them. It’s a shame this used to be a beautiful golf course.
Decline in quality
Used to enjoy playing here. It’s a quirky course with some weird holes, but was always interesting and well maintained. Sadly, the maintenance is not what it used to be. Tee boxes were hit and miss, fairways and rough okay, but the greens are in bad shape. Filled with bare patches, crab grass, and other issues. Putts bounce along instead of rolling. Cart paths are starting to deteriorate. Hopefully they will put some money into the course and restore it to its former condition.
Horrible
A course that was always quirky but nice to come to because the greens were in good shape, is now horrible because they fired a very good greens keeper , and replaced him with a mechanic who knows nothing about how to grow grass and maintain it.
What a shame!
Greens
The greens were in real bad shape. Not grass covered and bumpy
I like this course
I like this course a lot . Sadly the greens need work and care.
Been a while
I used to play this course regularly when I lived in the area.
Always enjoyed the layout, which is challenging, but still fun enough for beginners.
Fairways and rough were in great condition. Surprisingly and kind of disappointing were the conditions of the greens. Almost all of them were chewed up or burnt out.
Overall best value for the money in the entire area.
Bad Greens
The course was in good shape, but the greens were a mess.
Green was not nice
I thought the course got renovated but didn't see any improvements. I love this course but most of greens were not nice.
Greens are in terrible condition, half dirt. No way to control putt speed, direction or hold a line. I complained to staff after the round and they blamed it on "bad winter". But say they offered $10 off greens fee. When I said I didn't get a $10 discount, they said that was because i paid thru Golf Now...which doesn't quality for the poor-condition discount.
Not good.
The back nine is closed owing to last year's green damage. Half of the greens on the front are now stressed.
It's a weird course under the best circumstances, but unless you want a quick nine, I wouldn't recommend it now.
Greens are no good
Fairway and rough are okay but the greens are not even puttable
Only front nine open
Back 9 was closed due to the greens being in bad shape from a watering system problem last season. Front 9 greens weren't in good shape either.
I always liked this course but it has been allowed to fall into very poor condition
Needs a lot of work
This course layout is fine, but the greens are terrible and the fairways are marginally maintained. Tee boxes were dirt and grass and the sand traps have rakes but no one uses them in the mason sand. Greens were being worked on but were completely unplayable. Very scenic area but not worth the drive or the money.
I can’t believe that the course really went down hill. Really sad! The course super always had this place in great shape
