Shale Creek Golf Club
About
Nestled in a quiet residential community, Shale Creek Golf Club sprawls across land that for a century prior had been the Gunkelman Farm. The course repurposes the rolling terrain into a challenging layout. The subtle changes in elevation make for some tricky lies. There are also many streams that meander through the golf course before cascading into the nearby Rocky River. The river even comes into play from the 10th to the 15th holes. The golf course features large, undulating greens and wide fairways. Water has a dominant presence on the course but the final holes showcase more traditional Ohio terrain with wooded, gently rolling hills though you'll still have plenty of water to contend with on these holes. Shale Creek Golf Club requires accuracy and it will make you think, but it's not too difficult for a beginner to enjoy.

One bad 4some slows up an entire course
Everything was perfect on 11/1/26 except for a 4some who could not see they were holding up the entire course. We almost had 5 groups ready on a par 5! Quit taking the flag out when no one has hit a putt in 11+ holes!
Great as always
I love this course. its always in great shape and the greens roll great, not too fast, not too slow. The back nine has some challenging holes, but still very enjoyable.
Great course
Course was in great condition, greens had a few tough spots but nothing extreme. A lot of subtle breaks on the greens, made them tough. Overall it was a phenomenal day & course
EXCELLENT LAYOUT/ SLOW PLAY
The design of the holes is excellent. It’s challenging but fair. The greens are in really good condition and tend to run true, even when wet. I played after a serious rain storm and they had already drained well. It would be great if they had a marshal who was able to get on the course. Having a sixsome in front of me play out their last four holes really threw off the overall (and personal) pace of play. That said, every employee, whether in the pro shop or in the restaurant seems to be doing their part to make it a great experience.
Disappointing.
Was thoroughly unimpressed with Shale. Place has typically been very good throughout the years but this was the first time I walked away disappointed in the conditions of the course. Greens were very spongy and very beat up. Many of the sand traps are dirt at this point too. Probably won’t be back until next year if that.
First bad review
If you are gonna have amateur tournament. Should down the course to the public. We had a 330 tee time. Took 3 hours to play 9 holes. We left after 9 holes. First time ive been disappointed with shale.
Yes
Awesome course fun layout for all levels. Great food and staff. Well maintained and worth the money. One of my favorites and well worth the half hour drive. Love the Bunkers!
Too expensive
A nice course, but not worth the money they charge there most of the time. We play there once a year if we can afford it.
Great shape this early in the season
Early in the year and looking good.
Nice layout.
Bunkers a Mess
Course used to be good but they were charging a $61 spring rate and there is barely any sand in the bunkers. If they fix the bunkers the review would go to 4 stars.
