Golfer Reviews
Terrible shape
I’m his was my first time playing the course in over 6 yrs .. The course is in terrible shape and wasn’t enjoyable at all.. 90 cart rule on fairways that looked terrible made the day even worse.. The bunkers had grass growing in them.. The only plus were the greens..
Beautiful course. “Hidden fees”
The course was beautiful and three delightful strangers and I played as a foursome. The fairways are being overseeded so we were held to cart path only. I appreciate that for the long term, though.
One hiccup: I could not pay online. Repeatedly got an error. When I paid at the counter I was charged about 10% more than my reservation. I was told that “Golf Now has …hidden fees” and it was “cheaper to schedule with < the golf course >”. Course management has not returned my call and could not easily find a place to notify golf Now so will report it here and hope they can resolve. First time I had heard this at any golf course.
Course Condition
Played on 8/9/26, I understand that there was some damage done to the course by someone driving while the grass was wet, thus the course being "cart path only". This was not disclosed until checking in, however the round was payed for online prior to arriving at Sonoma golf course.
I recommend checking on course conditions and rules of play prior to making any online reservations.
Playing for $56 for cart path only rules was not very enjoyable in 105 degree weather.
Greens were good
Course is better then previous years. Greens are nice. Front and back nine are cart path only making it pretty miserable on a 100 degree day. Other than a few wet and boggy areas, that can be marked off limits, there's no reason to be cart path only anymore.
Car Path Only Rule Late Notification
Played this course before with no issues, but this time around we payed regular green fees for 18 holes including cart and when we got to hole one to tee off, we were notified that it was cart path only. This is obviously an inconvenience due to how big the golf course is and the high temperatures we were playing in. We were very much walked the entire course. The staff could’ve easily notified the players before hand and offer the walking fees option instead of riding but they decided not to. This was definitely not a good experience.
Played as a 2some on a hot deal. Fun course, great layout. Greens were excellent. Only issue is that the sand traps/bunkers aren't maintained. Pace was good at first, but the series of singles and twosomes eventually got stuck behind a 4some. Not sure why courses put out single after single like that. I guess it would have been OK if they could pass slower groups, but most golfers no nothing of etiquette anymore. Overall very good and I will play it again when Im in the area.
Good but slow
Everyone was incredibly nice- from the staff and starter to every other golfer I interacted with. Minus the bunkers, which were brutal, the course was in really good condition. Despite not looking to be overly crowded, there were a lot of backups (though perhaps I just got there at a bad time). Oh. And beware of the carts. If you ever veer even slightly off track, they immediately shut down and you have to reverse your way out...
That said, I will most definitely be back. I had fun.
NM hackfest
Course was in better condition than it was the last time I played there in 2019. Unfortunately the sand in bunker was nonexistent and dirt was as hard as a rock. Some greens had many ball marks where people don’t care to repair their ball marks. Starter Ray was awesome, friendly and very informative.
Great course
the only complaint is the bunkers are hard, with rocks, and weeds and grass and debris. They need to clear those bunkers up .
Best day ever!
We showed up early, and we were greeted with smiles and kindness. Jumped in a very clean golf cart where we stopped at the first hole. The gentleman took our receipt and proceeded to give me and my son a wonderful thorough description of the today's conditions on the course. Great so far. To our amazement, we had the privilege of playing alongside two Marshall's.. How generous they were giving tips and pointers. Not all days could be this great. But for two of us who drove that short distance from El Paso to play. Sonoma Ranch will always have our loyalty
Beautiful course
Played for my first time on my birthday and fell in love
Sonoma Ranch
The course is in immaculate shape with the exception of the bunkers, those are like rocks. Staff are great and super nice will even help look for your ball with you, have friendly conversations. Range balls are horrible though. Overall great place especially for the price.
Bunkers
They have improved the course very much in the last year, All but the bunkers . They will be next.
Friday at Sonoma Ranch
As gorgeous as the day has twelfth was, this course did not disappoint estheticslly! Beautiful with scenic backdrops and well maintained. The conditions of the fairways was top notch and the surrounding grasses were well maintained as well. Challenging target holes with some others allowing room to open up for the long ballers. Some tricky elevation changes as well. The hole placement for the day was challenging for my skill level but not for the better putters. The greens themselves rolled true with plenty of movement. Many tee locations for all levels too. Sunset Grille was really satisfying and I noticed many people that were not golfing today coming to eat at lunchtime. If I retire here, I will live in this neighborhood!
