Red hawk
I booked the course online for six players, and was never notified that it was cartpath only as one of our players had a medium handicap for walking. Although it was a windy day, the course conditions were below fair as there were a lot of areas that would go against a good drive and a lot of maintenance and construction was being down on the course. The price was no discount to play and the person that had a handicap could only make it through nine holes due to car path. Only the course is very poorly, represented as far as being notified for car path on me.
Cart path only
I would not have booked my reservation if I had known it was cart path only.
Could be a great course
Lots of ground under repair but not posted. Course could be a really fun layout without all the tore up fairways. Greens were tough but fair and in good shape. Look forward to playing again to see if improvements are made
Great Potential
This course has great potential to one day be one of the finest facilities in the area. During our round we ran into many areas where the irrigation system was leaking with deep muddy areas. When they fix these leaks the grounds will fill in nicely with new grass. The green were in excellent shape. This facility is undergoing massive new construction and the surrounding property nearby is also booming with new construction. This will truly one day be the finest public golf facility in south New Mexico!
Such a disappointment
I have played this course numerous times in the past few years. THe course is no where close to up to standard for the money they are charging. Cart Path only, re-seeded areas of fairway and rough all over the place. Greens had been punched 2 weeks ago and still completely full of sand. No advertisement of any of this is available on their website or no forewarning at the golf shop before they steal your money. A complete disgrace. Such a beautiful course and layout, completely ruined by their unacceptable conditions. They are pouring money into their new clubhouse. That's great. They will have disappointed so many regulars that nobody will be there to use it when its finally finished. Including me and my friends.
Give it some time
Nobody told me it was cart path only and they had punched the greens. Ended up stopping after seven holes but kudos to the staff, they gave me a refund for only nine holes. The layout of the course and the greens have some good bones. However, there were a large number of muddy spots and a number of spots were very watching. Like the title says, give it some time and it has the potential to be a pretty cool course.
Course not up to par
Course was under repair, cart path only,
Punched sandy greens. Should’ve been discounted
Horrible EVERYTHING!
It was the first time I was playing the course as I was visiting my brother who lives in the area, he had played it once before. We made a tee time for what should've been plenty of time to finish 18. However because of cold weather in the morning, all tee times were backed up a good hour. We were warned about the backup and arrived at the course accordingly. It was borderline enough time to finish at that point, so we had to pay for 18. But we ended up waiting on every hole, actually every shot and it dragged out forever! Hit the ball, wait 5 minutes or more, and hit it again... Very frustrating on a chilly windy day! And then the course was torn up from one end to the other and in terrible shape, huge bare spots and patch jobs everywhere. It looked like they were putting an interstate right through the whole course! Of course we didn't see a marshal until it was getting late in the day, when we were told we had to have the carts back in a half hour in spite of there being a good hour of light left and we were only on the 8th hole! We ended up playing more than the half hour finishing on 10 and getting grief from the marshal. When we got back to the clubhouse the pro shop was already closed, so we were out of luck trying to get any of our money back. This is by far, THE WORST golfing experience I have ever had!! I wouldn't recommend this so called "course" to my worst enemy. Other than the nice sunset, this bombed out excuse for a golf course has no redeeming qualities!!!
Improving by the day
Played here for the 6th time since November and it is improving each time I play. Greenest course in the region by far and being a foot or two off the fairway was almost always just as advantageous as being in the fairway. Felt like my ball was teed up for approach shots into greens that held the ball pretty well. Overall, love seeing the improvements and can’t wait to see the full potential of Red Hawk!
Under construction
It would have been nice to know that the course is still under construction. It was cart path only on every hole, I would have rather walked nine than pay 70.00 apiece for cart path only on every hole. There were construction workers, equipment and the “beeping” of backing up equipment everywhere. And when asked how it was at the end if the round and I told her it would have been nice to know the course was under construction on the golf now website, she replied they had nothing to do with that. That the course did not control what was said on Golf now’s website which I thought was a ridiculous answer. The course will be great one day despite all of the ball marks and other issues, but not today.
I should have looked at the local reviews of this course. The cart girl was great!
Red Hawk golf course conditions
Red Hawk Golf Course Green is a little fast, and fairways still have a lot of things to fix
Trip to Florida
The course had a lot of areas that under repair. The greens were hard to hold and very fast. But a nice course overall.
Will be back!
Got a Hot Deal to play here, with a citibank voucher. Which is irrelevant! Played mid-February during cart path only play, as a single, behind another single. Only saw two other groups during my round.
Starter was so nice to chat with, reminded me of cart path only and sprinkler schedule, as well as advice on playing the ongoing course renovation ground areas still exposed as bare earth (which was mostly wet from sprinklers). Nonetheless… I would play Red Hawk again exactly in these conditions and can’t wait to be back in Las Cruces to play when the renovations are complete. The views of the Organ mountains on most holes were so nice, even with encroaching urban developments in the area.
Fairways and tee boxes were in excellent condition; the yellow waste areas made finding colored errant shots not too difficult. Snake warnings are posted, so beware if entering waste areas.
There was a lot of wind that day, which later developed into a dust/sandstorm after my round ended… all these made my round even more special as I made adjustments for wind direction and speed. The course layout ensured wind would help drives on some shots, but hamper others. Putting varied due to the sprinklers in use, as well as some of the more intense winds.
All-in… I hope to be back to play in the next few months.
A construction mess
Cart path only all 18 holes. Push carts not available, and course is 50% grass 40% mud 10% dirt not including bunkers
So much potential
The course layout is very challenging which I like. It is under construction, so I will give it some grace but with so much green under repair it slow down pace of play. Can’t wait to see the new clubhouse.
