Red Hawk golf course conditions
Red Hawk Golf Course Green is a little fast, and fairways still have a lot of things to fix
Trip to Florida
The course had a lot of areas that under repair. The greens were hard to hold and very fast. But a nice course overall.
Will be back!
Got a Hot Deal to play here, with a citibank voucher. Which is irrelevant! Played mid-February during cart path only play, as a single, behind another single. Only saw two other groups during my round.
Starter was so nice to chat with, reminded me of cart path only and sprinkler schedule, as well as advice on playing the ongoing course renovation ground areas still exposed as bare earth (which was mostly wet from sprinklers). Nonetheless… I would play Red Hawk again exactly in these conditions and can’t wait to be back in Las Cruces to play when the renovations are complete. The views of the Organ mountains on most holes were so nice, even with encroaching urban developments in the area.
Fairways and tee boxes were in excellent condition; the yellow waste areas made finding colored errant shots not too difficult. Snake warnings are posted, so beware if entering waste areas.
There was a lot of wind that day, which later developed into a dust/sandstorm after my round ended… all these made my round even more special as I made adjustments for wind direction and speed. The course layout ensured wind would help drives on some shots, but hamper others. Putting varied due to the sprinklers in use, as well as some of the more intense winds.
All-in… I hope to be back to play in the next few months.
A construction mess
Cart path only all 18 holes. Push carts not available, and course is 50% grass 40% mud 10% dirt not including bunkers
So much potential
The course layout is very challenging which I like. It is under construction, so I will give it some grace but with so much green under repair it slow down pace of play. Can’t wait to see the new clubhouse.
Great layout.
Very friendly staff. Love the lay out. Good greens. Good fairways, with a few sections under repair. Theyre doing some renovations too so its looking to get even better!
was a good course at one time
Looks like this was a very nice and challenging course at one time but now everything but the greens are in horrible condition. There is so much dirt in the fairways you can't tell from the rough, there are just big dirt areas everywhere at the sides and in the fairways, are they natural areas or dead areas or what? All the bunkers had new sand but also had weed fabric sticking out all around them and dirt all around them, they did seem to be working on the course but what happened?
Great track, under construction.
Love the course layout. Lots of construction both on the course and in the surrounding desert.
A unpleasant surprise
Played here many times and used Golfnow to book before. There was no notes that the course would be under repair and would have to do gart path only for 18 out of 18 holes. Resulting in very slow play.
Pretty interesting layout but…
The new club house (been promised for 10 years) is under construction. They suggested six more months of work. Looks like it ought to be a terrific upgrade but access is congested right now. At the same time they decided to rework the bunkers so lots of them are presently GUR.
I liked the layout and the scenery. Greens, fairways and tees were pretty decent.
Course condition does not match price
Always enjoy playing the hawk but the course condition does not match the $80 price tag they are charging. Since them and Sanoma are one and the same they kinda have a monopoly on golf in cruces. Wait and play at 11-12 at NMSU with ridiculously slow pace of play or pay the $80 at the Hawk or the Ranch. Both are in poor condition but what can you do. I play painted Dunes in El Paso or Turtleback in T or C when I can. Both are always in good shape with excellent pace of play and the price blows The Hawk and Ranch away. Great staff but they need to get the course condition to match premium price being charged.
Conditions Are Deteriorating
The course is rapidly degrading. Some fairways are mud/dirt. Lots of ballparks on the greens from inconsiderate golfers. It seems all the attention has been diverted to the ridiculously large new clubhouse/event center. I hope they have events booked everyday for the next 10 years, because this town will never be able to sustain it as a golf club.
This course is in rough shape
The course was in rough shape and muddy. Extremely difficult to find ball in rough. The new bunker bordered are scattered with weeds. Not worth playing at this time.
It's improving
The staff members at Red Hawk were all very friendly and helpful, from the clubhouse to the starters to the cart girls. The layout is great, and there are challenges, but no tricky holes (i.e., blind shots). They are definitely working to make it a better course. My one complaint is that the second cut of grass just off the fairway is unrealistically high in many places. You should not have to risk losing a ball just because it ended up six inches off the fairway. Otherwise, I highly recommend the course.
RedHawk
Course is going through some updates lots of work going on to include new clubhouse redoing some bunkers and some fairway work. If you can catch a special then go for it but if not wait until all the work is finished
Total rebuild
Course is being totally revamped coming along nice. Club house as well gonna be a classy place soon. Greens super fast. Can’t wait till it’s finished!
