Good Golf - Demanding Course
Good course. A monster from the tips.
Scorecard says 6800-6900 yards bad starter told us they actually played 400 yards longer than that. 7200-7300 yard par 70 is insane. Course conditions were good for time of the year. Greens roll well, not as much break as expected with the undulation. Par 5s were odd. Only two par 5s were gettable in two. The other two were 3 shots no matter what. Second par 5 was listed at 670 and we played it about 30 miles an hour wind into and it’s tight. Legitimately maybe the most difficult hole I ever played. Par 3s were monsters too, haha. 6 of them and one was under 200. Makes sense though when you are playing a ~7,300 par 70. I really enjoyed the course, just wish par 5s were a little more scorable.
Pace was slow but that’s just public golf sadly. Round took us ~4 1/2 hours, maybe more. I shot mid 75 and played with one other person who shot 68. We could have played in 2 1/2 hours if it was just us.
The starter also seemed upset we played the tips. He highly encouraged we do not. It was kind of funny, but after playing it, he’s not wrong. If you are not extremely good, do not play the back tees. In fact, don’t even play the second tees.
Overall, I would 100% go back to Towhee. Good golf course that is a real test. Relatively narrow and can be LONG. Healthy fairways and healthy greens for the time of year and will get better as Summer progresses.
A Beautiful Golf Experience with Resort-Level Amenities
This facility delivers a very polished overall golf experience from the moment you arrive. The clubhouse, restaurant, and pro shop all create an upscale atmosphere that makes the property feel more like a private resort than a standard public course. The restaurant and off-course amenities were especially impressive and added a lot to the overall experience.
On the course, the fairways were in very nice shape and provided consistently solid playing conditions throughout the round. The greens were still recovering from winter, but overall they were in decent condition, soft enough to hold approach shots well, and rolled at a moderate, player-friendly speed.
The layout offers several scenic and memorable holes, though there are a few routing decisions that can affect pace of play. In certain areas, holes run close enough together that players can find themselves dealing with shots from opposite fairways, which occasionally slowed things down and required extra caution.
The practice range was one of the few disappointments, as it was limited to mats rather than grass tees.
The largest issue was parking and traffic flow around the clubhouse area. With no clearly designated golf course parking separate from restaurant traffic, the situation felt disorganized. Vehicles were parked in grass areas and even directly in flower beds, which created a chaotic first impression that did not match the otherwise high-end feel of the property.
Overall, this is a beautiful course with strong conditions, excellent amenities, and a very enjoyable atmosphere. With a few operational improvements, particularly around parking and pace-of-play flow, it could easily stand out as one of the better all-around golf experiences in the area.
Good Value
Decent course for the money - could use some improvements with respect to overall condition but a good track nonetheless.
Worth the $?
This is a nice course if you lower your expectations. The greens are in poor shape and appear to be getting worse. For the premium price they are charging you would be better off going to Henry Horton where the greens are PERFECT for about $60 a round. I’ve noticed it is getting easier to get a tee time at Towhee and if you live in the area it is convenient. If you are willing to travel a little, it may be time to check out HH, Franklin bridge or pillow springs. Folks are extremely nice and clubhouse is top rate.
Good course
Play this course a few times. As it gets more into the season the greens are coming in better. It’s a great layout and fun to play. As a 11 handicap it has all challenges I need to have a fun day.
Play is just way too slow.
They should have kept the old clubhouse and spent $ on rangers. Lol. The pace of play here is so horribly slow it’s ridiculous. I finished 9 holes on a Wednesday and had to quit because I was tired of watching others golf. The course was packed. You NEED rangers when a course gets this much play by a bunch of players who don’t know how to golf.
They also stopped giving you a range ball token and took the water cooler away on the first hole and at the turn.
Place has gone WAY downhill. 👎🏻
Course Condition
Only April so course needs to grow in but a lot of spots that have no grass, only hard packed mud. And who came up with the idea to use those hole liners? Hard enough to make a putt when the Greenskeeper doesn’t tamp down the hole when it is cut, leaving a dome but the lip outs because of the idiotic liners just adds to the frustration.
Limited / bad range, too expensive for how nice the course is.
I believe there is 18 total range spots. Not in great condition. For 100 dollars, this course is over priced.
The actual course itself is enjoyable to play. Should be a 70 dollar course.
Course wants a premium price
I have been playing here for years, and I love the layout but the last couple of years the course is always in the same condition, and the price has gotten completely out of hand. They don't water anything but the greens the tee boxes are always rock hard and uneven the fairways are also rock hard and are down to almost no grass. The time of the year does contribute to some of this but so does maintenance. If you want 80 dollars in April and over a hundred all summer long, then you need to be an outstanding course and this one doesn't come close. Very disappointing for a course, I used to love that is just out to suck all the money it can out of people.
First time
Excellent and Challenging greens. Multiple tee boxes to challenge all levels.
Awful condition
Towhee could be great if the owners would spend money on the course. Layout is great. It is an Arnold Palmer design that he pulled his name off several years ago due to conditions. Like many courses in the Nashville area, there are limited public courses and this is far from a $100 course. The first hole is challenging, but floods when it rains due to lack of drainage. The new owners promised upgrades, but are just happy overcharging and keeping it in the shape it is. These rankings are hilarious
Gold w fanily
Overall, the course was fun and challenging. Pace was very good
Course is worth paying $60-75 range, WAY overpriced if you are paying more for the conditions and layout. It has improved, over the last year and half, but still overpriced.
This could seriously be one of the best courses in Tennessee if they started putting in the same effort on the course as they did on the new clubhouse and hired a course marshal to enforce pace of play…… Pretty embarrassing this was a US open qualifying site last year
Not at its best
I’ve played this course before when it was in phenomenal condition, which made this visit pretty disappointing—especially for $90+. There was a significant amount of maintenance going on throughout the course, which clearly impacted the overall experience.
The greens were the biggest issue—extremely slow and appeared not to have been mowed recently. It just wasn’t playing anywhere near the level I’ve come to expect here.
I know this course can be excellent, but right now it’s simply not in that kind of shape. Hopefully conditions improve soon.
Great course
Always enjoy playing Towee, and impressed with the continual upgrades to the course. Greens are in great shape, always a fun track to negotiate !!
Terrible Pace of Play and No Parking
The pace of play was terrible. Over 5 hours to complete 18. Not a course Marshall anywhere in sight to help push things along either.
Also, arrived 30 minutes before my tee time and couldn’t find a spot to park anywhere at the course. Took me 20 minutes just to find a spot so I wasn’t able to warm up before my round.
Both of these are unacceptable for a golf course, and both should easily be controlled by management.
