Richmond Hill Golf Club

I was looking for a golf course that was In the middle of the city and around the 407 . Although I am a longtime golfer in the GTA, I had never played Richmond Hill before. I was impressed. The course was in great shape.The greens were very good and there were hardly any ballmarks on them.

I was really impressed by their service. I ordered a hot dog at the halfway house and it was delivered to me on the tenth fairway from the clubhouse in a nice brown paper bag. Never seen that before.

Felt rushed, although the group of front of us slowed us down. Marshalls needed to get off our back. The golf cart stopped on us a few times. Working hard expected the course to be a bit better condition for that price.

Enjoyed the course except for two holes… can’t remember but think it was 11 and 12. Greens were in good shape.

The Good:

Very walkable Parkland course with nice routing.

The front nine is really nice. Decent fairways. Greens were slow but they'd been spiked within the last couple of weeks and the scratch golfer I was paired with assured me that they ran in July and August. Some really well designed holes. Plenty of water hazards. Some of the best sand in the traps I have ever played. Pace of play was good: about 4 hours .

The back nine -- though equally walkable -- is like playing a completely different course. Weird tee boxes, miniscule landing areas, impossible approach shots after good drives. The golf course just didn't fit the land. Much less enjoyable. There is a great par 3 over water on the back nine. Probably the signature hole one the course.

Overall:

I am giving some latitude on the greens. I suspect they aren't as good as the scratch golfer stated, but if they are, I would rate this course even higher next time I played it.

It's costly for what it is, but that's life in the big city. I wouldn't rush out to play here again, but I wouldn't refuse either. Basically, a lovely, overpriced walk just outside the GTA.

A very beautiful scenic course. Challenging and well kept. Doesn't get much better than this.

...Other GTA courses that charge similar rates. Hate using third party apps like Golf Now because I don't trust them to refund fees in the event of rain or other cancellation reasons like illness. Wish we could just book by calling the pro shop but you just get bounced to Golf Now. Third party apps are a pain in the you know where. Probably won't come back because if that.

This course needs more rangers on the course to speed the pace of play

It’s rated as one of the best courses in the Richmond Hill area but I would choose Angus Glen over this course any day. A few holes are barely playable because it was so narrow and trees are not cut or maintained. They will tell you it “challenges” you. I booked twilight hours. Pace of play was so slow. I was grouped with some locals and they were playing multiple balls everytime they hit a bad shot. Seems like that’s the trend causing slow pace of play. I can’t rush them since there is a group ahead of us.

Round felt slow. We were waiting almost every shot, but still got round in at 4 hours, 15 mins. The courses suggested pace. Course was in good shape. Banquetburger afterwards was good, but expensive.
