We play here a few times a year. It’s a great course. They just started doing food which you can order on the 8th hole. piece of plate is usually very good. Lots of walkers what we usually use a cart..

Maybe because its spring time bit the course was in the best its been on for years. Grass has filled in nicely, I will return. I’m hoping the grass doesn’t die out when the hot weather gets here.

Solid course for us regular people. Will definitely come back, my son loved his first game.

Pomperaug has been a layout I have always liked, though it has had its ups and downs with course conditioning. Today, from what I observed of the parched fairways and roughs, it’s experiencing a down phase. They need water desperately. The greens and their surrounds are well-watered, at least, and the few greenside bunkers here are raked. But try to find a decent lie from tee to green. Dismal. The fairways look like high school football fields that have seen drastic use from varsity, JV, and freshman squads. Controlling the bounce and run of drives near the margins (and keeping them out of trouble) can be impossible.

On the plus side: friendly service, decent pace, strategic golf. These were enough to mitigate the effects of the fairways, but my disappointment was still strong.

This venue retains the look, if mainly around the clubhouse, of the upscale facility that I remember it began with. When the overall polish of the golf course doesn’t live up to that ambience, though, the general appeal will drop for many golfers. Let’s hope that trend reverses before too long.

You couldnt even tell you were in the fairway. Dead weeds, dead grass or just dirt everywhere. Greens were actually in decent shape, but everything else was horrible. I understand it's early in the season but come on! Also, there are alot of local teenagers that play there was a 6some in front of us of all teenagers. On one hole they didnt even put the flag back in the hole, I had to take the cart to the green and put it back myself!

Enjoyed playing this course on a perfect summer’s day. Pomperaug is a solid nine-holer that is recovering from flood damage in 1994. They’ve made some genuine progress. Even since this spring, there have been noticeable improvements that are restoring the layout’s playability. True, the summer heat has taken its toll a bit and, as such, some of the grasses look a little browned out, but I found course conditions manageable nonetheless. The greens and fringes were impressive overall.

Breakdown of conditions:

Fringes and greens were mostly excellent–they ran smoothly and predictably; greenside roughs average; roughs average, tees fair. Generally, too much crabgrass is intermingled with fairway roughs–and some greenside. The bunkers were very good. Fairways are still below average, yet have improved to a great extent since last year and (I would guess) incrementally since this spring.

Some conclusions:

I always enjoy playing this layout, as maybe the biggest aspect of scoring well here is thinking your way around it. It’s also impressive that the management here has taken seriously the restoration of playing conditions. Playing pace was a bonus: 1 hour/30 minutes. The gentleman at the front counter–someone I hadn't met before–was very friendly and helpful!
