Bad pace of play after frost delay
I really enjoy Candlewood and have played there on numerous occasions and never have had a problem I like the friendly people who work there and the course is always well maintained. Unfortunately, there was a frost delay yesterday and after being allowed to play, the pace of play was dreadful, over 5 hours. That is atypical, however.
meh
no ranger to be found. 3 some in front of me constantly re hitting poor shots. 3 open holes in front of them. round took almost 5:15, which is ridicules for a mid week round.
CV
Pretty narrow fairways on a few holes. Excellent conditions with nice rolling greens. Will be back for sure.
Candlewood
Generally a pretty wet course. Situated on floodable farmland on the still river. Greens are quite small and elevated to stay out of floodwater. Balls usually will plant on the fairways and greens. 2022 it’s been very dry and playing that way. But is now wet again after the rain (9/9/22). The course is a pretty good challenge as there is trouble on every hole in just about every direction. Woods water brush creeks river trees you name it. Approaches to greens can be tricky cause they are small. Narrow miss windows. And expect to fall off greensides off what you’d think was a good shot. Greens have quite a bit of slope. But technically speaking arent ridiculous. Usually on the slower side but faster in ‘22. Greens usually have quite a bit of marks due to the general folk who play here. Some holes on this course can be very dangerous and require very precise shots. Shots that require dead straight accuracy or pinpoint placement. Expect to run into trouble. This course rewards consistency. And will tear you apart if you let it. It’s a fairly shorter course. But there is trouble and trees left right and sideways.
Nice place
Some holes are quite challenging. Course conditions were very good considering the lack of rain. Front nine plays harder than back.
Many things to like
Course was extremely well kept and pace of play was excellent for a Saturday afternoon. On the negative was the 1st tee situations was confusing and frankly the starter did nothing to organize who was teeing of when and with who. Also no use of what seemed like a practice range was also confusing.
Pace issues
Could only get 14 holes in as I had a late afternoon commitment. Group in front of us was playing very slow and really should not have been out on a Saturday.
Well written and accurate review. Wish there were more like this on golf now
