As much challenge booking tee time as playing course
Sugar Creek is a fun nine-hole course with no par-5s (five par-4s and four par-3s for par 32). It is relatively well maintained for a muni, and it has a small driving range attached. Weirdly, none of the bunkers had rakes, but maybe that was just an oversight. On this particular day, most of the pin placements were pretty challenging, a lot of them placed close to the edge of the green. The pin on hole #2 was brutal -- if the putt did not go in, it would roll downhill ten feet.
Sugar Creek has stopped taking tee times by phone, so you have to create an account, etc. YMMV but I had a terrible experience. I already had a GolfNow account but did not remember my password. I clicked "reset password" on the Sugar Creek website but never got a reset password email, so I called the clubhouse. They told me they could not book my tee time and gave me a number to call GolfNow and reset my password. I did get to speak to a human pretty quickly, but it took at least 10 minutes of effort to get my password reset. Hopefully next time will go more smoothly. The kicker was having a "convenience fee" tacked on after jumping through so many hoops to make the reservation. : (
Great Local 9 Hole
For a local municple 9 hole course, its great. Course conditions were well kept and greens were challenging but not overly difficult. There's no ranger on course so pace can become pretty slow at times. But there was a beverage cart on the course last weekend!
Sugar Creek
This is one of our go-to courses. It is a good test for most skill levels. The course is always in very good condition. The rough is not so long that you can’t get out of. The greens roll smoothly. There is a good mix of long and short holes. My only wish is that they put drinking water on the course. Other than that we try to play here several times a month.
Short, well maintained, and tough greens
Really fun little 9 hole neighborhood course. No par 5s, short par 4s, and testy par 3s. Really GREAT course for beginners. Good course for advanced players to work on shorter irons and quick, heavy breaking greens. Range is turf only, putting green is putting only, no chipping.
Duffer
No outhouses for the ladies! No water jugs or bowl washers. Come on Villa Park and Elmhurst Park Districts!!!! I pay big taxes I expect better on the golf course in my town!!!
Nice little 9-hole course. Good for beginners
This is a short little course thar is slightly longer than a par-3 course. The course is well maintained and very playable. My wife is new to golf and this is one of our go to’s for her so she isn’t holding up the pace at longer more challenging courses.
The course was cheap during the week and we were one of the few groups out there. Very nice round.
Just me: not my favorite course
This course just does not lay out well for me right now. I probably should hit from up tees. Otherwise, it was fun, good group. Slight mix-up with start.
Challenging and picturesque
The course is in great shape! Difficult, sloped greens and thick rough made it tough to score. Staying in the fairway and approach shots left below the hole are very important. Pace of play was great! A very enjoyable round!
