Sweetbriar Golf Club - Legacy 18
About
Located in Avon Lake, Sweetbriar Golf Club boasts two scenic 18-hole courses that are routed through natural wetlands and forests. The front nine of the Legacy Course was built in 2002 and the back nine was added in 2007. The nines have different landscapes, creating a diverse set of holes that will have you using all the clubs in your bag. The front nine has a links design with winding fairways and large greens while the back nine was carved from forests. With natural wetland areas and a number of interesting risk-reward par 5s, the back of the golf course has more of an east coast feel. The other 18-hole course at Sweetbriar was built in the 60s. It is shorter than the Legacy but is still challenging, which makes it great for beginners.

Legacy on a Hot Summer's Day
Awesome day - timing just right @ 12:30 to avoid jam & great pace-of-play. Greens were a little sticky, and people have to repair their ball marks, but course conditioning great, especially considering the 90* heat. Starters do a great job, and paired this single up with others for an enjoyable round. My golf wasn't that great, but my tired old swing is my only excuse.
SweetBriar Legacy is Fun to Play
Course is in great condition, greens a little marked, but I played after a huge combo-course golf outing. I repaired a lot of ball-marks, but greens held & putted nicely. The best thing about playing after an outing, was wide-open course & my 2some played 18 in about 2.5hrs. All the par3s had deep (back-of-green) pin-placements, so yardage gun was to our advantage. The course played long, after rains previously in the week, but even more so tomorrow, as we finished right before a Thunderstorm would dump more rain.
Great value for the money
Took my kids to play the old 18 at Sweetbriar and was pleasantly surprised at how playable it was. The greens were in great shape for the type of course it was, the kids loved it, and it was fun for me as well. Definitely better shape than it used to be. Totally worth the $25/pp with a cart for 18.
Great Deal
This course had great greens. The fairways were average but the greens were so nice that it got the good rating.
Sweetbriar legacy
Excellent course and friendly staff. Highly recommend playing this course. Like playing a NC/SC. Course in cleveland
Poor pace of play
Nice course in good condition but awful pace of play. The norm is 5+ hour rounds while the rangers drive around and say nothing to groups that are holding everyone up.
Course had too much standing water and pace of play was terrible
Normally love Sweetbriar played there 40 times but this was painful. Cart path only but the amount of standing water and high uncut grass was painful. No Rangers and pace of play was 5 hours plus. Definitely should have offered some compensation or something as on this day not worth the cost.
If it has rained, stay away!
Rained the day before my round, but mistakenly thought they would have proper drainage, or i guess any drain system at all. I thought wrong. The course was an absolute pond. Not just wet, standing water in every fairway. There is no way this course should have been open for play. I went back to the starter after about 4 holes and said that it was entirely too wet to try to play that day, and the starter said try them again another day. If they would have given me a rain check for the 14 holes i couldnt play due to conditions, maybe i would have given them another chance.
Soggy mess
This course was a soggy mess. I understand cart path only, but when the course is under water well that's a different story. I've played here plenty of times but this has to be the worse. You would think that they would give you a warning about how wet the course actual is, but we got nothing from the person is side or the starter sitting in his nice dry both.
Self inflicted Wounds
Hadn't rained in days in Avon Lake--and yet, through some course conditioning watering blunder--it was cart path only--which led to a 5 hr round. Hint--90% of the course was dry---rope off or cone wet areas and accomodate your guests
Wet
When dry, this course is really nice. Challenging and pretty. But you're surrounded by homes.
Pleasure to Play SweetBriar Legacy
Legacy in great shape .......I just wish my golf swing could rise to the occasion for a good score. The greens were rolling nicely, with good pace, and they sure held good approach shots. Actually, the entire course was a bit soft, thus not much roll-out with the fairway drives, or shots into the green. The 1pm start had a few 2somes get jamm'd up behind 4somes, so once we paired up by #4-hole, we had a better time & not sandwiched in between groups. The pace could have been a little quicker, but then again that 4+hrs was much better than watching the Browns get beat by the Jets. ProShop & Starter does great job of welcoming players, even if I am one of those who got the cheap Hot Deals Special.
Great place to play. Course is in excellent conditions with great greens.
