Review of Oak Harbor
First time playing Oak Harbor and enjoyed the layout. They had received about 2 inches of rain the day before we played, so there was standing water on some of the holes near the cart paths. The greens were beautiful, but the fairways had a lot of clover in them and it was hard to tell the fairways from the rough on some of the holes. The pace was pretty good for the first 9 holes but then it started to back up a quite a bit as we made the turn and we had been waiting on several holes. We popped into the clubhouse to use the restroom facilities and when we went to the 10th tee, the starter had put a twosome on the tee. They were told that the front was really backed up and to go to 10. Then a single showed up as we were waiting. The ranger came and apologized to us as he thought he put the single in front of us. We were not happy with this and told him we had been waiting on the group in front of us for the last few holes. Once the ranger was out on the course on the back 9, the pace started to pick up. We finished the back 9 a lot quicker once things started to move. I would play the course again despite the issues we had as the price was good. However, as a first time player of the course, the check-in attendant was not friendly at all. He could have asked us if this was our first time playing and to be a little more welcoming. He was doing his job, but did not seem like he enjoyed it. He answered our questions but there was no smile and no conversation. He wasn't busy either when we checked in. The value for the price paid was in line with our experience at Oak Harbor.
Course in great shape
Great course for beginner to intermediate golfer. Not much trouble to get into but still challenging. Great. Value 18 with a cart for less than $30. Seen a bald eagle overhead during our round.
Club policy is robbing patrons
Don’t golf here if you need a rain check!
I went to the club’s website and was presented with 4 options to set a tee time. I picked one and picked a day and time that fit my schedule. My fried and I checked in early and even hit some balls on the driving range. We teed off a little early.
Around the 4th I “tweaked” my back. I was able to finish the front nine (although I “sat out” a couple of holes.) After the 9th hole, I was done. It was too painful to sit in the golf cart much less trying to swing a club. I asked for a rain check.
I was told that “the club policy” prohibited such a rain check. Again, I want to stress that I went to the club’s website. The club honored the tee time and gladly accepted my payment.
Nonetheless, the staff flatly refused to issue a rain check. The manager was “unavailable.” I was also told that, “he might not return until tomorrow.” Finally, I was told that I used a 3rd party vendor and the club had no recourse to receive a refund from them. Now, again, it seems like the 3rd party vendor was approved by the club since they took my reservation and robbed me of my money. What would have happened if it started storming with thunder and lightening prior to us teeing off?? Did I pay over $50.00 for the privilege of setting a tee time (without actually playing??)
Overall, the front nine was polluted with white clover weeds which made finding a white ball challenging. The greens were slow and their surface’s needed rolling. The front nine also lacked design imagination.
Never again for me, a local resident!
Staff
My biggest issue with this course was the staff. There were 3 people working and the only person that was semi friendly was the lady in the restaurant/bar. The other 2 gentlemen that were working were very rude. There are courses that are near the area that are cheaper and in much better condition and have nicer staff and nicer carts with GPS and also cheaper drinks.
Very wet
For as much rain that has fallen, this course was in decent shape, however the rough and fairways are in dire need of cutting when it does dry out.
Course in decent shape. Pace of play was very good
Fairways were in rough shape in a number of places. Think they got a log of rain the week before and had some washed out spots. Tee boxes were also a little rough. Greens were in very good condition. Not the greatest value for a deal time price. Will play here again.
Pleasant surprise
I decided to try another golf course out in our area. I chose this course because it had a good rating and a ‘hot deal’ that works for my schedule. First of all, the course had a good layout with varying challenges. I was pleasantly surprised by the condition of the greens as they were well maintained, as were the fairways. There are various water obstacles and fairway layouts that made the course moderately challenging for the average golfer. Some fairways were flat. Some included rolling terrain. Overall, this is a better than average course. Worth the drive and money spent.
Fun course with just enough challenge
Course overall was in decent shape. Some recent flood damage was still present. Some of the fairways were hard to separate from the rough due to conditions and cut height. Greens overall were soft with decent speed.
GREAT DAY
PERFECT DAY FOR GOLF. NOW ALL I HAVE TO DO IS LEARN HOW TO PLAY BETTER!
GREAT DAY
COURSE WAS ON GOOD SHAPE. PEOPLE WERE FREINDLY. NOW ALL I HAVE TO DO IS GET BETTER!
Nice affordable course
Course was in pretty nice shape had a few bunkers that were a challenge, lack of give in the sand. But besides the traps course was in great shape nice enjoyable round at a fair price.
