Staff rude
Play here all the time as I live in Yukon. First time I have had an issue. But the staff was very rude about me asking to play ahead of our tee time. He said you all got this tee time at next to nothing as if it was free. I said the course is pretty open would it be okay. He said this one time as if it was an inconvenience for him. 8 cars in the parking lot and he is wanting to be rude to one of his few customers. It is fine if you don't want people to play your course but if you don't want to be on golf now for discounted rates then maybe you should not offer them. I will not be going back anytime soon and will be letting family and friends know about the rudeness of this man.
Windy Day at Surrey Hills
Unfortunately it was extremely windy, 25+ mph. The course was in very good shape for the end of January. The greens rolled very well and fast. Fairways were in good shape. Course layout is interesting. Carts are kinda slow, but it could have been we just wanted to finish to get out of the wind!
Couple Holes Make for a Difficult Course, Slow Play
There are a couple seriously rough holes on this course (3 and 5) which tends to ramp up your score, but - for the most part - the others really aren't that bad. Course has some nice lines here and there. I've experienced some of the slowest play here, though, compared to other courses around the OKC area and have had the staff shrug their shoulders as GolfNow showed 18 holes when they, apparently, had only 9 available due to a regular group. That usually happens toward twilight, though...for me, at least. 19th hole looks like it could be a good time, but I haven't, yet, had the opportunity to indulge.
Fun, challenging layout, BUT.........
Course conditions were poor, to put it lightly. A lot of construction occurring on multiple holes, large construction equipment on the fairways, giant holes/ trenches dug on the fairways and around the greens on several of the holes. Would've been nice to know about ongoing course construction before committing to playing a round there. Greens were not in the best shape. Tee box on the driving range was a 1 1/2 foot wide strip of dirt on a downhill slope. Not the best place to warm up before a round. Staff was friendly and several of the holes were very scenic, especially during the Spring/ Summer months, I imagine. Overall, a fun layout, but would not play again until course conditions are more respectable.
Ok
Decent but not great. I like the golf club cleaner on the cart and the people were nice.
Great day
glad to see the fall season come around and take down some of the rough around this course. Played it early summer and the rough was pretty thick, but this time around, much easier to find the ball, but I do suggest white golf balls as the leaves do make it tough at times to find the ball.
This was the first time for the Mrs. to play this course, and she even liked it and that is a good thing, as it is pretty friendly for a woman golfer.
It was a great day overall and we will be going back in the spring time
Great updates in staff and course and facility condition
Danny is great and all staff are friendly! Course is in wonderful condition.
Poor customer service
The greens were heavily seeded. It started raining on the 4th hole so I tried to finish the nine but proceeded toward the clubhouse to see about coming back a different day. They men in the pro-shop stated that because I purchased from someone other than there, no rain-check from them, fine. I received no refund from anyone and it was a lost day. Will never play here again due feeling of the lack of customer service.
need to know about course conditions before booking
greens had been scraped and seeded, so they were in poor shape. the course itself was very soggy from watering. fairways were okay. Would have been nice to know course conditions before booking on line. Disappointed in spending $42 for this outing.
Sad experience
This place thinks it's Augusta national! I got to finally play golf with my longtime friend who is a U.S. Marine. He just got home from a tour. He brought his 11 year old daughter to the course. We went to tee off and a marshal from out of nowhere pulls up and tells my friend his daughter has to pay for a green fee because her junior set was on the cart. My buddy said she was just gonna whack some balls an putt a little. She's not playing 18 holes, she can't even hit the ball. The marshal sternly replied, " put the clubs in the car or pay a green fee and 1/2 cart". We were shocked!! And people wonder why golf is dying!? Then the course was terrible. Apparently they've never heard of weed control and lawn maintenance. Weeds in the fairway and the Bermuda rough was STUPID. You had to step on ur ball to find it. And then when u find it, ur hitting out of 6 inch Bermuda. The price is ridiculous. $12 more and we could play at Jimmie Austin in Norman through teeoff.com
Sweet.
Pretty tough course when you have never played before but was lucky enough to join up with 3 guys who helped me. I would play again.
Enjoyed
Course in great shape, rough a little tough but it's that time of the year.
Great course
The course is good with challenging holes. They are repairing the cart paths and have done great improvements to several holes. Overall it's a great course for the money.
Course in good shape.
I play Surrey fairly often and it is in great shape. Fairways, greens are in maybe the best shape I have seen in a few years. My only complaint is the length of the rough. Was playing with a new player and many of his shots were ending up in the rough and we spent several minutes on each hole looking for balls. It really slowed down play. (yes I realize, hit it in the fairway and you won't have to look for it). Just seems like a happy medium could be found. Otherwise, course, cart and staff were all great.
Yes they need to mow the rough!! 6 inch Bermuda is impossible to hit out of and find a ball.
Nice challenge
The course was in great shape. There were some challenging holes that would take a few times to know the best way to play them. It was frustrating to lose a few balls just off the fairway due to grass being a little too tall in my opinion. Staff was friendly. Very good value with a midweek GN Hot Deal. Can't wait to go back.
time well spent
I re ally enjoyed this course,it was a very interesting layout and was very challenging
Fantastic course
One of the best golf courses in the OKC metro. Probably the best public golf course in the metro.greens were lush. Fairway was beautiful. The rough was actually rough. Pace of play was great!
vwry underrated course
I was pleasantly surprised by this course. I am in town for a few weeks from Atlanta on business and wanted a good course to play as a single on the weekend. The reviews I read were not great but I still decided to go try Surrey Hills because it was relatively close to my hotel and the cost was less than $50. Not only was the staff very friendly, pace of play on a Saturday was excellent but the course has quite a bit of character; generous fairways however you have to be able to work your ball as well as hit it high and low, in order to score. It also helped that two Oklahomians Rick and Terry were gracious enough to let me join them for the round and they were just the quintessential friendly Midwesterners. The greens were very good but the rough was definitely a factor. You really need to hit your ball in the fairway or you may not be able to find it. Great value .. Check out Surrey Hill, I will definitely play it the next time I'm in OKC.
Home of hard pan fairways and impossible hole locations.
First time playing Surrey Hills today can't say I was even remotely impressed. I've played just about every course around OKC and all being around $45 they are usually worth the drive and money. SH however was $40 and a 30 minute drive out of the way even passed by a good Hefner GC, thought I'd give it a shot. Fairways are rolling and hard as a rock, even if you hit a good tee shot good luck on keeping it in the fairway, the rough looks like it hasn't been mowed in weeks so if you miss the fairway at all be prepared to look for your ball for 5-10 mins. It is a neighborhood GC and most of the residents' backyards are not fenced off so you could very well be hitting an approach shot from someone's backyard.. awkward. Not a long course by any means but they do a good job of keeping up their yardage markers on the fairways. The greens were actually in good shape rolled very well but they are SO TINY. If you ever found yourself here on a windy day you can say goodbye to your GIR. With the shape this course is in it is beyond me why they have a no denim, collard shirt dress code. Save the money and gas and play another city course Lincoln East & West are both in great shape with a brand new clubhouse for around the same price. Trosper is also stepping up their game and is a little cheaper I believe. Friendly staff at Surrey just looks like they could spend a little bit more time on the actual course instead of the practice greens and Clubhouse.
Totally agree with your comment. I had same experience and tell everyone I play with to avoid playing this course because they don't appreciate their customer.
