Fastly improving course
From near death to what it is today is a modern miracle! New owners deserve the gratitude of the entire golfing community. Thank you from my my wife and me! Beautiful and rapidly improving. Still has some back nine marking and communications problems. And hole 15 is simply unplayable. So we just drove our cart to 16 from 14. But first rate from new electric carts to enthusiastic staff to course maintenance. Highly recommend!
Great Staff and fun track
The staff were great and super helpful. The course is in good shape. Tee boxes and parts of the fairways were quick bumpy but the greens were well cared for. The layout is fun and challenging but the steep uphill #15 is a bit of a miss. Need to rethink that hole.
Overall, a great time and I’ll be back.
In great condition for the coast.
It was a good round at a great value! The greens were in great shape and the fairways were good for coastal areas.
I would definitely play again.
Very nice place to play
There aren't many public 18 hole golf courses in the area. I would definitely recommend the Mook for a fun round. The course was in great shape, the pace of play was good. Didn't stop by the bar/grill afterward.
First time in upgraded course.
I played here about five years ago and was pleasantly surprised when I arrived to play. Many great improvements but in general a great course to play. Challenging but nothing gimmicky to deal with.
Beautiful Canvas!
This course gets prettier by the day. Inspiring to see all of the work put into making this a destination course. Can’t wait to see the flowers and new planting this summer!
Quirky Course with Tons of Potential
Overall I had a decent experience at The Mook, but it left much to be desired.
The staff was accommodating, and friendly. They have a very nice clubhouse and pro shop. The driving range is a bit ratty with some old mats and junk targets. Still, a nice touch to include a warm-up bucket with the round. Please offer your guests a complimentary dousing of bug spray, because the mosquitoes here are relentless and bloodthirsty. Yeah, I know that sounds silly, but trust me - it was insane, and I've been camping in national forests around Cascadia for over 40 years.
I was surprised to see so much brown grass and dead spots considering that we've had a pretty tame summer. I'll refrain from commenting on the greens since they have just been sanded/aerated. As far as design, most of them are tiny.
I didn't have trouble finding my way around despite the very odd routing on the back nine. They have some very new nice stone markers, but they're oddly missing from several holes.
It's wide open on the back, so there are options to change the routing and still keep it interesting. There are no course guides, but the website is well-designed with hole-by-hole videos.
The uphill par 3 is just weird. What's the play here with branches overhanging in the middle of the shot path? If you hit a low shot underneath you'll line drive it into the hill. You can aim left of the branches, but who can hit a 25-yard fade wedge to an uphill green? I don't think it is poorly designed, but definitely needs some tree trimming to make it playable.
The Mook grass design on the hill probably looks more impressive when it's not burned out.
Several greens had a very soggy or ground under repair area in front of the green. Several tee boxes were very beat up or just looked really sad.
The water hazards didn't seem very well maintained. This is probably quite a project though and will take time like the other conditions I've mentioned.
I feel like it has a ton of potential. I'm giving them the benefit of the doubt here because it looks like they're really trying, and understand these things take time. I'll definitely return and look forward to seeing the improvements.
Good place to play
What a great course. Only thing I didn't like was no dress code. Had some clown out there with a sleeveless shirt and denim. Looked like a hillbilly!
Nice quiet course
Great greens, fairway is ok, the rough is hard like all courses around here. I was expecting something more low key and basic but it was surprisingly nice and not too busy on a Saturday. Challenging course. Some of the fairway is impossible to hit from because of the ratty grass that traps your club, but overall it’s nice.
Pro: it has the only driving range for 50 miles
Con: range is matts only and no drivers allowed
