Excellent Shape
This course has a very interesting layout with a lot of challenging holes and pretty views. The course was in excellent shape, which made the playing experience very enjoyable. The fairways and greens were perfect.
The course/clubhouse attendant was very helpful and friendly. It's one of my favorite courses in the Pittsburgh area. Very good framing on certain holes, such as #10, with trees and bunkers. Course strategy is paramount, because a bomb-and-gouge player will end up in some difficult lies. To the course owner-- whatever you're doing, keep doing it and I'll be back!
Too many beginners allowed on course that have no business playing on weekends. Won't be returning in near future.
Customer Disservice
The course is hard as cement and brown throughout. The tees are destroyed with divots probably because I’ve hardly ever seen a tee moved and they don’t have sand to put in divots. The greens are slow and you can tell they never roll the greens because there are Tons of pitch marks on every green even if you’re one of the first groups out for the day. The bunkers aren’t taken care of properly and typically if you hit in them the ball just bounces out or rolls to the low spot which has no sand. Rare occasion there’s so much sand in one spot that your feet actually sink when walking in that specific bunker.
The carts are always dirty (not cleaned from previous persons use including mud, garbage etc), slow and shocks gone because the cart paths are in such bad condition. 16th hole driving to tee box is borderline dangerous because there’s a huge hole which your cart actually tips to the side. On the 11th hole you have to pray your cart stops beside the tee box because it’s such a big slope and brakes can barely stop cart and you just slide down the path.
Earlier this year, it was actually the owner and his group holding up the golf course, driving into Another fairway without looking while a group was about to tee off and then they just waved at the group to hit while they were still in middle of the fairway.
It’s a shame this place has gone down hill so much because the layout is decent and could be a good public course if it was maintained. Customer service would be a good addition too since that’s the business they are in. the past few times playing here have been nothing but bad experiences so I won’t be returning for the foreseeable future.
BAIT AND SWITCH GREEN FEES
Frankly, I really couldn't care less about $6, but when you book a tee time online at a $39 rate...that's all you should pay...understand this wasn't an internet deal...ALL WEEKDAY RATES SHOWED $39 ON THEIR WEBPAGE....JUST POOR BUSINESS TO NOT HONOR THE PRICE ON WEB...PRETTY PETY ACTUALLY.....as for the course, they really squeezed 18 holes in this space...bunch of around 300 yard par 4s...tons of blind shots and very hilly....no GPS in carts, which, understand is more then just yardage...like tips of where to hit the ball on each hole....so need to play with a regular, or no clue where to hitthe ball...tricky layout,...greens are really SLOW, wouldve enjoyed more the second time, but that's not gonna happen with nicking me for $6...on principal alone
Sick of this place being called peasant ridge
Had a great day out there. If you know how to play the ball on concrete then you will love the ground at PR. The course is great and the greens are fun.
The best part about the place is the GM Mike. This guy must be zapped 24/7. Super friendly and helped me be prepared for my day.
If we’re not going dahn the hawk next Saturday then we will be back and I know mike will be absolutely zeeked first thing in the morning!
Terrible experience/horrible customer service
I had booked a tee time on golfnow a week in advance for a foursome. I get a call from the owner (who I know personally) less than 24 hours prior to my tee time and he left a voicemail stating that there was a mix up with golfnow and they overbooked for my tee time. He said he could not “accommodate” me and told me to call golfnow to see
if I could get a refund. I called the owner back and asked him several questions and basically he said that he does not make any money when tee times are booked on golfnow, so he prefers to accept tee times booked directly with the course. So even though I had booked my tee time a week in advance on golfnow and prepaid, he was not going to let me play and instead gave my tee time to another foursome that called 24 hours prior to the tee time that I had reserved and already paid for. He did offer to give me vouchers to play on another day (which I declined based on the fact that I wasn’t interested in returning to the course ever again) but the problem is that we had planned this a week in advance and it was going to be difficult to find another tee time at another course with such short notice - if he had called me earlier in the week, it would have been a little more understandable. So I asked him why he even puts tee times on golfnow if he won’t honor them and he said he would no longer be doing so. Well, looks like he is still putting tee times on golfnow for some reason - so beware of this course if you are not paying full price and not booking directly with the course. I have played this course many times in the past, but will never play there again (and have warned many of my golf buddies)
based on this ridiculous interaction with the owner.
Best Course Conditions in the area
I play golf 4 or more times a week. I like to play a variety of local courses. Of all the local courses I am never disappointed in the conditions at Pheasant Ridge Golf Club which I can not say about the other local courses. The staff and owners are the absolute best. They always accommodate my desire to play a round regardless of how crowded the course might be. If you want an enjoyable and somewhat challenging round play Pheasant Ridge!
Rolling hills??
First and last time playing here. First off...the course is well maintained and the greens are major league. The fairways are extremely tight and lined with so many mounds that you lose track of what mound your ball went behind. The course is extremely hilly and most of the holes are blind from the tee boxes. There is a 525 yard par 5 from the Whites that you hit from an elevated tee box over a ravine, to a rising multi-tiered fairway. You can’t see the tip of the flagstaff until the 150 marker. With so many blind holes it’s not target golf...it’s hit and pray golf. Play it once and move on

Wednesday Afternoon
Had an 11:20 tee time, played the course in 2:35 as a single, 3 foursomes let me play through. Fairways and greens were in fantastic shape, tee boxes where a little beat up but so goes towards the end of the summer busy season. One guy running the bar/proshop, was very friendly. Added bonus was able to grab a sleeve of the mythical kirkland signature balls for $9. Highly recommend for a midweek round.
Tight Fairways, Blind Shots, and Slow Play
Pittsburgh area golfer who played PR first time this past weekend. Course was in very good condition and staff should be complimented... However, we really didn't like the course design and play was painfully slow with only twosomes and threesomes in front and behind (but it was a weekend). From my recollection, there are 12 blind shots that are required due mostly to abundant elevation changes, which is way too many for efficient play and particularly troublesome for golfers not familiar with the layout. There is no map on the card or GPS of the holes to assist. A couple tight holes is nice for any track, but this course's main challenge derives almost entirely from tight fairways with only a few moderately wide areas that justify using a driver. While we did not lose many balls, it is apparent from the narrow tree lined fairways and lack of sight distance at PR, why play might be slow if a golfer cannot regularly see where the ball lands. Never played the rescue club (for control) as often as I did here. The price was moderate. All in all, my partners and I felt our experience here was just "ok," and we probably would not return in the near future without some incentive to bring us back.
HOW DID I NOT PLAY HERE SOONER?
Played 36 on Pheasant Ridge.....wow! I had seen the signs for this course on Route 8 and Bakerstown Rd, but had never played it. Got out early and just MOVED! The first 18 played from the tips. What a challenge. Every club in the bag...lots of hazards, good mix of tight fairways and open, great greens with contour, conditions were fantastic! Played the second 18 from the whites and broke par. The layout was a great use of the land and very well thought out...uphill, downhill, right-to-left, left to right, great bunkers, forced carries over water....a thinking and shot making course.. The staff was friendly and got us right back out for the 2nd round for $15! DEFINITELY coming back!!!
I was charged for my round at the golf course when I checked in and discovered that “Golf Now” also charged my account.
Is it possible to speak to anybody about this??
Weekends, not good
I like the course, staff is great. Just don't play on a weekend unless you have 6+ hours to kill and don't mind bobbing and weaving as balls are flying everywhere. Oh, and carts may be crossing your fairway by someone looking for a ball from 2 or 3 holes over to either side. To be fair, probably not much different than other local courses on a weekend. It is a fun course and a great layout, good value.
Get what you pay for...
I have been playing many different courses public and semi private golf courses north of the city the last few years. Many of these courses were on golfnow.com. You can get a good deal on a great lay out through this website, but i have noticed the courses really start to see wear. This was my first round at Pheasant Ridge since they got off of golf now. They have a flat rate of $50 on the weekend mornings and i thing that is the best thing they did. People that are willing to spend a bit more to play are also willing to fix a ball mark on the greens or replace a divot in the fairway. The greens rolled well and true.
I had 7 other guys with me at 9:30 am on the Sunday of Labor Day weekend. The course was full and busy; however the pace of play did not suffer. We did not wait for more than a handful of shots nor did our groups get pushed at all. When we did wait it was for your usual par 3's or a shorter par 5.
The starter was friendly and made sure we got a complimentary yardage book to help our group whom many of never played the track.
There are a few holes that have a bit of a weird layout, but what courses don't in Western Pa.
I would say we got exactly what we paid for.
Great Value, Great Course!
This course is under "new" management and has been very well upgraded & maintained! My foursomes have enjoyed this course over the last couple of years and feel that it is a "great value" for the money!
Great pace of play
Best greens I’ve played this year. Beautiful shape. 3:15 round of golf. Fantastic!!!!
