About

Holes 18
Type Public
Par 70
Length 6018 yards
Slope 127
Rating 69.0

Springfield Country Club is situated just outside of Philadelphia, only 10 minutes from the airport. The golf course sprawls across gently rolling hills accented with stands of mature trees. The changes in elevation are seemingly subtle but they are trickier than they appear. Although the course is playable enough to appeal to a wide range of skill levels, it doesn't start you off easily. The opening hole is a tough par 4 that has a creek meandering across it as well as a severely sloped green, followed by another par 4, an uphill hole with an elevated and bunkered green. There are a few strategically placed bunkers throughout and water makes an appearance on a few other holes. The towering trees that frame many of the holes also present challenges.

Course has more hills than I remember

I used to play this course when I was in college 40 years ago. I never remember it having as many hills then, which gives you uneven lies. Also, there were more "blind shots" on holes than I remember.
The fairways were in terrible shape, obviously from the number of days this summer when the temperature was 90+ degrees. It is the first time I have ever played a course where they were aerating/re-seeding the FAIRWAYS.
I am far from being a "picky" golfer, i.e. I really enjoy playing golf on ANY course. But if I play this course again, I will be sure to question the condition of the course prior to playing.

Although shorter in length

Although shorter in length Springfield CC has great ammenities that are offered. I found the course to be in moderate to good condition. The greens themselves were in great shape and rolled trully, while the fairways were very dead and lacked continual maintenance. Tee boxes were buffed up from the tips...rarely played I presume? The barely extra yardage constituted underwhelming challenges. The ammenities saved the overall course conditions however. A well-stocked proshop, and mid-round bar/snackery awaits the ferocious, as well as the famished.
