Cottonwood Creek Golf Course

About
Joe Finger teamed with Ken Dye to create Cottonwood Creek, which turned out to be one of Finger’s last design projects. This links-style course features a good amount of cottonwood trees lining the fairways, and the appropriately named Cottonwood Creek meanders through the layout. Water is in play on over half the holes, and the Bermuda greens are generally elevated.
Two holes stand out on the front nine. The first is No. 5, a 435-yard par 4 that doglegs left between two creeks. The second is the 554-yard No. 7, which has the tightest fairway on the course.
The back nine starts out tough with another long doglegging par 4 with water backing the green. The next one to watch for is the double dogleg No. 15, which snakes 541 yards and has a green protected by water. Big, perfect drives force the consideration of cutting over the lake to reach the green in two.
And you’ll need a solid drive on No. 16, a 453-yard par 4. Water is in play on the approach and off the tee.
Other notes: Cottonwood also has a 9-hole facility that serves as a nice little short-game practice area. The holes range from 37 to 90 yards, and the green fee is $5 for adults.
Getting there : From I-35 south, exit New Rd. and turn right. When you get to Bagby Ave., turn left and the entrance is down on the right.

Good course bad pace of play
Nice course greens have some weeds growing into them but the pace of play was horrible 5 hours for 13 holes
The course is in EXCELLENT condition! Tees good, fairways and greens great! Some challenges, especially bunkers around greens, but not enough to detract from casual play. Will definitely play here more!
Senior league
Best course in town, but maybe only course in town. I liked it. Nice people.
Nice Course
Absolutely loved this course, well maintained, green are fantastic, I will be a regular here!
Best Public in Waco
With Twin Rivers going to the dumps (it's getting there due to poor management) cottonwood has become the nicest public golf course in Waco. It may be a bit windy at times because of it's location, but the course is very fair and the greens are in great shape and roll very true. If the money is the same there isn't a better value in Waco. I play with the Baylor club golf team and we have played every course in the greater Waco area and we have chosen to make Cottonwood our home. I highly recommend that if you are looking for the best conditions to play on that you play Cottonwood. James Connally has great greens, Twin Rivers has a great layout, Lake Waco has some nice views, but from tee to green this is the course to play.
