Turnberry Golf Course

Let me start by saying I never write reviews, however I felt compelled to do so regarding this course. All I’ve heard about Turnberry and read about this course from reviews, ratings, etc. is how it is a challenging course because of its excellent design and furthermore, that the course is highly recommended and reviewed as one of, if not the best Columbus City course because of how well kept and maintained it is. The only challenging aspect of Turnberry was how poor the conditions and shape of the course was in. 7/9 holes I lost my ball in the fairway off all different shots (drives, irons, wedges) because the ball was 2 inches into the ground due to how severely underwater/overwatered it was. And it was every hole. Moreover, not only did I have to dig my ball out of the ground every time but also couldn’t hit the ball even after I dug it up when on the fairway. Imagine playing every shot like it was out of the bunker - got to the point where I was aiming for everything but the fairway - the taller grass was easier to hit out of! Also, there is an absurd amount of dirt patches that have not been repaired (just drew circles around), divots everywhere because it was waterlogged, greens were even a mess. Even the cart paths sucked. Scheduled for 18 but ended it after 9. Would have walked off sooner but it was an absolutely stunning day and was hardly anyone on the course.

$40 for 1 player and 18 holes for a City public course I expected better. If it was $20 like Airport or Memorial I wouldn’t complain. If you’re just going out with a friend or group and just want to mess around then maybe play here but even then the price doesn’t match the quality.

Would not recommend.

Slow play when you have walkers who won’t allow you to play through. Get a darn ranger on the course will you. Course was in excellent condition. Slow play doesn’t keep me enthused

Good layout, well maintained. Fairly short course that isn’t super challenging. But fun place to play.

Very long and straight holes with challenging greens to keep you honest.

Before my friends and o could tee off, we went to the driving range and was accosted by one of the younger First Tee Program Instructor

I payed for the round for all 3 players at the pro shop and purchased a dozen ProV1X balls and a LARGE bucket of range balls

My friends a I noticed that there was a section roped off for the first tee program so we moved down to were we thought we would be out of the way

I distributed the LARGE bucket of range balls between my friends and myself

We hit about 2-3 balls when one of the first tee instructors walked up to us and asked why we were hitting balls in this area and that it looked like we had more range balls that would fit in a large bucket of range balls

I introduced myself as Steve Maples a retired Army Col/ retired medical PA and business owner and asked him if he was accusing us of hitting range balls that we didn’t pay for

He replied that we need to move and that it looked like we had more range balls between the 3 of us that would fit in a large bucket

I requested that the next time he spoke to guests with more tact and to go back to teaching his first tee children

We stopped hitting range balls and moved to number one tee area and spoke to the starter about the unprofessional actions of the First Tee Instructor

We still had a great round and received nothing but very friendly and professional responses from all other staff at the course

Course was over watered. Greens were very inconsistent. Our cart broke down on the 3rd hole & they replaced it with one that was also in bad shape. 30 minute rain delay but we got the round in. I was expecting a little better from a city course. Still overall a good round of golf.

Awesome links course, greens, tees and fairways were in great shape.

I had high hopes for this course as it came highly recommended by a good friend. As I’ve been told, this course is typically in really good shape, and fun to play. Every single green had Multiple brown spots and ant hills. The staff have clearly given up on the upkeep. Don’t play in 2020.
