Good Course, Decent Value
I love the new Bermuda Grass greens on this course. Layout is decent. Prices have risen, I think, since the new greens were made playable. Friendly staff, but could use more drink cart activity. Some slow play, at times. Worth a try, for sure, though.
Member here
I'm a member here where they charge $30 a month. The range is average but nothing special. The short game area is not quality and could be improved much more. The clubhouse isn't very big but just average as well. The course itself is short and not in good conditions. The maintenance is very poor and wish they took more pride in what they do. For the price it is not bad but would like better fairways and bunkers and practice facilities. They recently got Bermuda greens and will hopefully be better come spring. Not bad for the price.
Energetic staff
No. 4 is hard to figure out, I guess if you play there a lot it is a little easier. Not the best time of the year for course conditions but with normal maintenance water and sunshine next spring should be great.
Pro is energetic lots of programs in place, lots of cleanup going on.
This is almost a good course.
Yesterday was perhaps my 5th or 6th time playing Silverhorn. It is not a favorite, but is sometimes suggested by friends wanting to save a buck. Besides having too many blind holes, it seems like there is always something going on with the course that detracts from a pleasant round. Last summer, it was lack of water in the water cans and failure to relocate the holes regularly. Lately, they've gone to the expense of installing new greens, that should be nice come next spring. Unfortunately, to take care of these new greens the ground crew has been flooding them with water, leaving eroded sand traps, mud and standing water around the greens. Another annoyance is when trying to use your GPS device on the course. I think the holes are in reverse order and the yardage is often calculated to where the hole used to be. It would be nice if the starter gave players a heads up. Anyway, long story, short. We''ll play it so long as it remains cheap.
Hard & muddy
The fairways and rough were extremely hard (dry) and it was difficult to get under the ball. Conversely it was extremely wet and muddy around the greens and some of the sand traps were standing water.
Unhappy experience
I booked my tee time and got there and all 18 holes had temporary greens. I didn't even play. Wasted 5 bucks.
Terrible
Currently installing new Bermuda greens....which you would think would leave some time to pay attention to fairways and the over grown ditches etc. fairways are junk...and ditches and weeds are worst I've ever seen. There's one hole(Par 3) where the weeds are so tall and over grown they actually are in the cart path. This course should be a $5.00 green fee until they get it back under control
Greens Under Construction
They don't tell you until after you book that the greens are temporary. Every par 4 was about 175 yards with a hole in the fairway, a couple of the par 3's were about 50 yards. Totally not worth playing, and shouldn't even be open. I payed for 18 holes but quit after 9.
Temporary Greens... Yuck.
The whole course had temporary greens and the only indication of distance was the pro shop attendant telling us they're all about 40 yards short of the actual greens. Not so much. It varied from about 40 yards to almost 100 yards. No course map on the scorecards to give us some indication of how far we had to reach the greens. Fortunately, I had a decent range finder program on my phone and was able to guesstimate distances based on landmarks but that only got me kinda close. Still, the rest of the course was in ok shape. A few mud holes to avoid. And the fact that there was no water in any of the creeks made it easy to chase down my partner's golf balls!
Never again
Booked online and nowhere did it say the greens were under construction. Drove a long way out there and was very displeased. I have had other bad experiences at this course and this was the last one. I will not book here again.
Great play for the money
Only thing I wish is they would have distances to the temporary greens, with out a range finder or pin finder you guessing how far you are to the pin. Other than that I had a good time.
The course has temporary greens in the fairway
This was a great course, several years ago, they are 're-doing all the greens, they informed us of this fact when we checked in, had I known this on golf now I wouldn't have booked it.
Catastrophic Transition
I like Bermuda greens, and I like Silverhorn. I'm happy for the change. The transition certainly leaves something to be desired. Unlike some of the other golfers I encountered, I was aware of the transition and the temporary greens...but to call them greens at all is certainly a stretch and there was no water available along the course. After the 2nd hole, I didn't even care much at all. All I can say is it was bad...really bad. Looking forward to a redemptive review after the transition has been completed.
Temporary greens.
Silverhorn had a temporary greens! I did not see it in the description when I bought it. Completely unplayable. Sprinklers were on the entire time golf cart had water sluicing around in it. Just an awful experience.
Horrible conditions
If you like putting off of gravel this is your place.. There was maybe 3 greens that has grass in them. I won't be back here for a long time.
Little misleading..
Silverhorn is a decent golf course with a nice layout. However the overall condition of the course is probably the worst in the OKC. The majority of the greens are struggling with fungus and it makes it difficult to putt or chip with any optimism.
I wish golfnow.com would objectively rate the course on condition so you know what you're getting into. For $25 the price is right, but overall you get what you pay for.
Greens are gone
Nice layout but the greens are the worst I've ever played. Would not have spent the money to play if I'd known beforehand what kind of shape it is in.
NO PUTTING SURFACE
The greens were GONE! Some fungus or something but 12 greens were absolutely GONE. It was like putting on the moon or something. I love golf and play 3 times a week. I work very hard for my money and I believe it is the golf courses responsibility to alert customers when they're putting surfaces are GONE. WASTED MY TIME AND MONEY. MY GROUP AND I WILL NEVER GO BACK
nice course
Very nice layout greens were rough but the price was far staff was very helpful and the food was great all in all a well rounded course will be back soon
Greens are gone
Unfortunately the greens at Silverhorn are completely destroyed by a disease which has just developed in the past two weeks. It was very surprising to me how bad the greens had become since I last played this course. TOO BAD... it looks as if it may take several months for this issue to be resolved for what has always been an excellent course,
