Island at Silver Spring Country Club
About
There are two 18-hole courses at the Silver Spring Golf & Banquet Center, the Island Course and the Falls Course. Opened in 1986 as the West Course, the Island is the original layout at the facility. At nearly 7,000 yards from the back tees, it is considerably longer than the other course but both offer a fair amount of challenges. Mature trees line the fairways and several ponds provide water hazards on several holes. The Island Course's new name comes from its trademark feature that appears on the signature eighth hole. This hole is widely known for having the only naturally occurring island green in the state of Wisconsin. It is an impressive hole though there are plenty of dramatic elevation changes and strategically placed bunkers to contend with throughout the golf course.

A real shame
This is a real gem of a golf course but unfortunately it's closing after.this in season.
Its a Joke
Save your money. The owners are sucking out every last dime to pocket for themselves. Instead they should. just close it down. Green in terrible shape. Make shift holes. Temporary Golf Shop where they barely acknowledge your presence. Wish I could get my money back.
Down hill
This place used to be a gem. I can sadly say this was my last 18 holes at the island. Every green on the front looked like it had been hit with hail. All the carts are ripped seats dangling or broken windshields. The 18 year olds running it are reading books or staring at their phones. Hole 2 we had a group in front of take their shirts off to work on their tan apparently. Fireball mini bottles all over the course that looked like they had been there for months. The pest sight was the island hole. Used to be Pristine now covered in moss and literally trash floating on top of the water. My money is the island course will be sold for more housing in the next year or 2. Def not worth the 70 price tag
Bad carts
The carts were so bad we had to return twice to switch carts. Finally the third cart seemed ok. The first hole has a hill on right side and unknowingly our cart had horrible brakes. With just a slight touch of brakes, they locked up and we spun twice looking for our balls on that hill. Carts rattled, didn’t turn properly or had horrible brakes. Fun course but we will not go back and risk getting injured in those carts again. We were not going fast. After first hole I realized the brakes locked up even with slightest pressure.
Not worth it
Overall enjoyed ourselves but that was a first and probably last time playing The Preserve. The course was challenging but the lack of upkeep and attention to details made it easy to lose interest. The carts are in absolutely terrible condition, there are a ton of holes that are not marked, no hole #s or hole info, the island hole was a swamp, the bridges were sketchy, and I'd rather not talk about the bathroom or lack there of situation. The porta pottys were vile, no other way to describe it. I would consider giving the course another chance in a few years after the "management change" or whatever they are saying hopefully turns things around but for now this will be on the "never again" list. Not worth the money, they are clearly not spending it on the course and are much more interested in their banquet hall. Do not wast your time or money, there are plenty of other courses out there.
Dangerous carts at the Preserve
The course was fun and challenging. The T boxes were unkempt but the course and greens were great. It’s the carts! Jumped in a cart and headed towards parking lot to get my clubs but the cart rattled so bad I turned around. Windshield wasn’t attached in two places. Went back, switched carts, but this one would not turn. Went back for a third cart and it seemed ok but brakes made back tires squeal with minor pressure in parking lot. Didn’t think anything of it until we got on side hill on first hole. We almost flipped over with minimal pressure on brakes they locked rear wheels and we spun around 360. Happened again and we spun 540. Didn’t use brakes again for the 18. Dangerous bad carts.
Great staff on a terrible course
I was very disappointed with the conditions of the course. The island green was like a shag carpet. I was appalled at first then almost impressed. I think they purposely made the worst green in the country just to have something to brag about. It was embarrassing. The play was incredibly slow. 1 person and two person groups backing up the course. These groups should have been combined. The golf carts were the worst I’ve ever seen at a golf course. The seat was ripped open like an old couch on the side road. The carts were old and in terrible shape. If they were a horse they would taken and the barn and shot. If you would like to waste 4-5 hours and $64 dollars, this is the course of your dreams.
Tee Options
6400 yrds. plus for silver??? Next option was gold at 5,500. 900 yrds. difference. get with the times... There should be another set off tees between silver and gold. We also thought the course wasn't in the greatest shape, looked neglected. At one time we did play here a lot... That goes back to when it was built. Not sure we will be back, disappointed.
Tired
Good - very few people on course, so playing with my nephew who re-hits frequently didn’t cause any issues. Beverage cart.
Bad - tee boxes, amenities (no water on course), terrible sand traps, loaded with dandelions.
Greens plus cart was $50, $25 would have been appropriate.
My review
Poor signage directing you to each hole. No water or bathrooms on course. No ball washers at each hole.greens and fairways were ok…not great
Keep on changing stuff
They ripped out what was previously hole 10 on the island course.. didn’t notice where they squeezed in another par 3 but the guy I got paired with said we did 18. I guess.
Going downhill
I’ve played here several times. First time this year. They ripped out hole 10 and back nine starts on what used to be 11. I’m probably done going there.
Tear it down and start over
The minute you try to get in your cart By stepping over other Carts You will understand how this course is run. It makes sense, knowing who the owners are. This course is great for young kids who want to goof off for nine holes at their own pace. Go ahead and replay number eight as many times as you’d like. Don’t worry about the group behind you, There are no marshals and crazy stuff happening on the course. No food to speak of and a bar with no customers. This is what I was afraid of when I booked the teetime for over $60 for nine holes.
This is a $25 course.
Last Time I Play There
Other than name change, nothing has changed or improved. Muddy traps. Just did not feel like the wonderfull course I played a few years back.
