Island at Silver Spring Country Club
About
There are two 18-hole courses at the Silver Spring Golf & Banquet Center, the Island Course and the Falls Course. Opened in 1986 as the West Course, the Island is the original layout at the facility. At nearly 7,000 yards from the back tees, it is considerably longer than the other course but both offer a fair amount of challenges. Mature trees line the fairways and several ponds provide water hazards on several holes. The Island Course's new name comes from its trademark feature that appears on the signature eighth hole. This hole is widely known for having the only naturally occurring island green in the state of Wisconsin. It is an impressive hole though there are plenty of dramatic elevation changes and strategically placed bunkers to contend with throughout the golf course.

I've been playing the Island course for the last two years. Each time I've played I've found the course to be in good-excellent condition. I think the greens are a pleasant surprise. They run true and are fairly fast. I particularly like the par 5's which are well over 500 yards and each one requires three good shots. Hole 15 is one of the best par 4 in the area, I wish they would move the silver tee back on hole 7 where it used to be. I do enjoy playing this course and will probably continue.
Poor adaptation to gold tees
I've been playing this course for more than 30 years. As I age and lose distance in my game, I've moved to a shorter set of tees, now playing "gold". This course hasn't implemented use of mid-length tees very well.
Holes 2 and 6 were hard to reach when I was 40. The gold tee is not forward at all. It's impossible now. They play the par 5's from the original women's tees. Generally much too short.
Hole 11 is made extremely difficult by where the river crosses the fairway. The very steep green makes for a difficult par for almost all players. 18 is also a 3 shot hole for most of us gold players but at least the green gives you a chance.
I would suggest adding a new tee on each par 5, roughly between the silver and red tees. The length of each hole would be more appropriate.
The course is on pretty good shape. Price was certainly right. The grill is not at all inviting and I've never seen it well used by players after a round. I assume people go to some other place near by. The pro shop had little or no merchandise. I generally get my equipment elsewhere. But the paucity of equipment, clothing, etc was remarkable.
Practice facilities are excellent with the exception of a practice sand trap
Pace of play was good and we are fast players - 3.5 hour rounds are ideal.
Fun Place, Nice People
I have played this course many times. I continue to play here for several reasons. First they offer two very different courses at one location. Depending on your time constraints it offers you a choice. Falls course is great to work on your short game. Enough of a challenge on half of the greens to test a skilled player. Sand plentiful but not over kill. Bunkers loaded with sand. Fairways in average to above condition are the norm. The Island layout plays long. Suited for big hitters and a second shot is typically playable if you don't stay on the fairways. Cart girl Shelly is one of the best. Friendly and remembers what your preferences are, and the beer is always ice cold with a great selection. The clubs acting Pro Brian is an asset to this operation. His quick wit and knowledge make this a pleasure to enjoy over and over. Place of play can vary, usually things move fairly well. Weekend play can be a bit slow however I think that its typical for any nice course with the above. Keep it up!!
New course for us
Played the island course. Course was too long from the slivers and to short from the golds. We are use to playing about a 6000 yd course. That being said, we enjoyed the day at a new course. The island green was a treat, the finishing holes were a challenge.
No. 9 a uphill clime, no 18 an uphill dogleg right.
Par 5s are a little for ladies, Course was in very nice condition, nice staff, would certainly go back.
Hidden Gem in Greater Milwaukee Area
The Island course at Silver Spring Country Club is by far one of the most underrated courses in the Greater Milwaukee area. I was a bit turned off due to some road construction that was going on however after my round I would gladly take the detour again.
From the moment I arrived, I felt welcomed. The staff were very friendly and accommodating as we had one player running a little late...they made adjustments for us that allowed us to tee off as a group and we never felt rushed. The course itself was in great condition. Fairways were nice and tight, greens were quick and rolled true, and even the rough wasn't a "bad" place to be.
We had an issue with a group in front of us and the ranger on the course was able to fix the issue almost immediately.
Overall, it was a great experience and well worth the money spent. There is a new company managing the property now and it appears they are making some major improvements. I really look forward to seeing this first hand once the 2014 season kicks off.
THIS COURSE IS AMAZING IN ITS BEAUTIFUL UNIQUE WAY!!!
This course is open to the public yet it feels so elegant and sophisticated like one of those really expensive private country clubs. The course is so well maintained and pristine. So unbelievable you get to experience this at such good, affordable rates!!!
cours was in very nice shape, greens were aerated but thats to be expected this time of year
course played challenging, play moved at steady pace with 4 some ahead and a 2 some behind. could use a hole map on the card or at tee box, first time playing didn't know how some holes laid out from view at tee box.
Long and tough.
In decent condition for all the rain lately. Some rough spots but generally in great condition. First time played on this course.
The island green is a must try!
This course was very well maintained and the views were great. I would definitely recommend this course.
Ranger Needed on course.
My Group Flew through the front nine, but the course must have had some leagues or something go off the back nine infront of us. The pace of play by the two foursoms infront of us was abizimal. And no matter how much we tried they would not let the faster players play through. The couse needs a ranger out on the course. Or maybe some players should learn and understand that golf is a gentelman's sport and if you play slow let faster players play through.
Nice value
Aside from the detour to get her, it was worth the price of admission. Greens were true and pace of play was wonderful. However, since we had never played here, we found that there were a lot of holes close together and a few wayward shots found their way into the pockets of other groups.....the island hole was a lot of fun from the back tees!
Great place
Target golf at times...long par 5s and great greens
Staff inside was excellent!!!!
very good value
Pleasant surroundings,challenging enough,reliably friendly staff
Silver Spring Island Course
The Island Hole is very unique and exciting to play with friends. The course was in very good shape overall. The traps were a little hard but not terrible. Good drink service and setup. Decent price for the weekend 18 holes.
nice course. charged more than advertised
Went out as a single since the twosome I was supposed to play with didnt show. Starter was a nice guy. Course was in good shape. Fairways could be a little shorter. Great value if I would have been charged the advertised rate on site. I was charged $10 more. I didnt bother to ask. I'll just book the falls course next time.
too slow. needs some marshall management
too slow. marshal was not pushing and could have moved us at least 30 minutes faster.
