Island at Silver Spring Country Club
About
There are two 18-hole courses at the Silver Spring Golf & Banquet Center, the Island Course and the Falls Course. Opened in 1986 as the West Course, the Island is the original layout at the facility. At nearly 7,000 yards from the back tees, it is considerably longer than the other course but both offer a fair amount of challenges. Mature trees line the fairways and several ponds provide water hazards on several holes. The Island Course's new name comes from its trademark feature that appears on the signature eighth hole. This hole is widely known for having the only naturally occurring island green in the state of Wisconsin. It is an impressive hole though there are plenty of dramatic elevation changes and strategically placed bunkers to contend with throughout the golf course.

Good value and challenging
From the black tees the course is about the right length to provide a challenge. The greens were in very good shape and most of the fairways quite generous. They start you off really easy on the first 3 holes but the rest of the front is tougher. The back nine has a couple really tough holes but the finish is a little weak in my opinion. The par 5's are strong for a course this length. I had an iron second shot into #17and but all the others were 3 shot holes. The signature hole,$8, is quite intimidating on a windy day. Overall I think I got a really good deal.
Nice Course!
Course was in great shape and played well. Fairways and greens were well maintained while the fringes were a bit higher. Ball would settle in and make it difficult to see the ball until you were on top of it. Fun to play but last few holes got a bit buggy around dusk.
This course is one of Golf Now's best values.
This is a well maintained course that is not heavily traveled. Some of that may be due to the construction on Silver Spring just east of the golf course. The course can only be accessed from the west. I have found the pace of play always good there. The only possible complaint would be the lack of refreshment services. We saw the refreshment ambassador on the 2nd tee and the 11th fairway. With the temps in the middle 90's(almost as high as my score) we could have used a little more attention in that department. I thought that the tip presented would have been ample encouragement for a return visit.
All in all it was a very enjoyable day.
This course is in better shape than I expected
I had golfed at Silver Spring in the past but I stopped going there about 3 years ago because the course was in terrible shape. Tee boxes were terrible, greens were not well maintained, etc. I golfed there yesterday and I will go back. It is a great value for the price and they clearly have been taking much better care of the course too. It is well worthwhile golfing here now but I recommend the Island course and not the Falls course - it is a much better design. Make sure you have a divot tool for the greens however. Apparently most golfers at this course feel that repairing divots on the greens and raking sand traps is optional. I repaired a lot of ball marks on all of the greens yesterday that had been neglected by those who made them before us.
Great Price, Slow play
This is my go to course because they have great prices. Go with 3 or 4 people or don't go at all, the course gets extremely backed up and you won't be able to play through. That being said, the Island is always in great condition. A relatively easy start makes way for some longer challenging holes. Play your irons at the 150 marker on the shorter par 4's (or your go to distance) and you will have great looks in. The par 5's are no joke, long long holes. For the price this course is a steal, and if you go in expecting a slower round it will be enjoyable.
Enjoyable, challenging long par 4s, and scenic
I've played this course many times. It is picturesque, water comes into play only on a number of holes.
despite the water, very few mosquitos.
And yes, the Island hole par 3 is a little gem.
biggest drag was pace of play. Despite a 3pm tee-off, it was still slow. Thankfully it is bright at 8pm!
At the regular green fees over-priced, but definitely worth playing if you get discounted rates.
Course
Course was in good shape but was over priced. would play it again.
I love this course!
I live in Georgia and come up here to visit family and get some GREAT golf in! This course is my favorite in the area. We played the Falls last time and I wanted to spend a bit more try the wetter side. It certainly did not disappoint. Will definitely be back to play it again! Awesome.
Course is in great shape right now.
They've recovered very nicely from last years heat and lack of rain. I wouldn't say the course is pristine but it is nicer than just maintained.
way over priced
The course is not worth the money. The fairways are in terrible condition. Patches where there isn't even grass at all. The course would get a positive review if the price was 20 or 25 bucks for a round instead of 50. Broadlands is the same price as silver spring and is a far superior course. This is probably the 4th time or so that I've golfed silver spring and they are just letting the course go. I will not be returning to silver spring.
great course at great price thru golfnow. com
Very challenging course but well worth what I paid thru golfnow will definitely come back again
Beautiful night for golf and no one behind us so we could play without being rushed.
Course was in pretty good shape given the tough Summer we had here last year.
In desperate need on some sprinklers.
burnt fairways and greens .i know everyone likes putting on yellow grass. Not worth the money.
Great course for the money.
Played the tips which is a good challenge for the 0-10 handicap. A good amount of blind tee shots though, made a few holes frustrating to find the ball. Overall though greens were in great shape and for $30 w/cart, can't beat it.
Enjoyable Fall Round
Silver Spring has been doing a lot to upgrade the course, and it shows. Greens were aerated last week, so they were a bit slow this time, but they rolled true. This quick Fall round was enjoyable.
Great Long Course
awesome course, great for long hitters. Definitely challenging 8th signature hole and the 2 par 5's that are both over 600 yards from the black tees.
Made this the home town course even though its 20 minutes away
