Beautiful course
It's a great course to play. I am member and love the area and course. It's a great price for the money. You will not find a better deal in Alabama.
Ten extra dollars for cart fee riding alone
It's not right for them to charge an extra $10.00 for riding in the cart alone during this pandemic time. They are the only course in Birmingham, Alabama that's charging this extra fee. They are not taking the Covid-19 serious. Other courses are still not letting the pin to be pulled out on the green. The person that receives the money likes to get smart with customers. The regular rate is $34.00 with a cart , and they are charging an extra $10.00 for cart fee for riding alone.
6 shots away from 70.
Shot my best score of 85! I haven't played this course since I moved to GA. The course was in good shape and played well.
Course is in excellent, Summer-like shape. Fairways are cushiony, yet play firm and fast. Greens were just top dressed, but it is hardly noticeable. They roll good. Best walking rate in town at $20 Monday through Friday.
Roebuck was designed by British architect Herbert Barker and debuted in 1911 as the Roebuck Springs Country Club. Of note, it has been reported that this is the site of Bobby Jones first tournament victory in 1915. The club did not survive the stock market crash of 1929 and was purchased by the city of Birmingham in 1930.
The course is an old-school parkland layout, where what you see is pretty much what you get. The majority of the holes are straightaway and there is only one blind shot on the entire track. Length is not an issue, measuring 6,324 yards from the tips and a shade under 6,000 yards from the regular men's tees. Accuracy is a must, as all fairways are tree-lined and there are a few holes that require navigating a canal that runs throughout.
That being said, the course's main defense is the rather small greens. They are Harbour Town-small. Walking from the parking lot you will see the 18th green. Don't be fooled. It is the largest green on the property - double the size of the rest. The greens do have enough gentle slope to make chipping and pitching require your attention if you miss the greens in regulation. Your short game will need to be in order to score well here.
The fairways and greens were in good shape.
This course is extremely walkable, with negligible elevation change and the parkland style lending to greens being very close to the next tee. The $20 walking rate during the week is an excellent value.
There is no driving range , but the course does have a putting green and a pretty nice chipping area near the ninth green.
As mentioned in another reviewer's post, the course is not in the best part of town. I have been here a handful of times and have not had any issues, other than an obvious non-golfer trying to sell me second-hand golf balls. Still, I would recommend trying to avoid finishing up your round near dusk, just to be safe.

Well, I was in agreement with you until you mention the course was not in a good part of town. I am not sure where you were going because that part of town is predominantly black. I am member and play the course every weekend for 10 years until I can't see my ball and never had a problem. Until there is a problem don't post misleading information.
Rogusta
My friends and I affectionately refer to Roebuck as Rogusta. This is an old school muni that is stuck in time. The layout is decent, and the greens are average. But, this place is cheap, and you don't need a tee time. Just show up and get in line.
The surrounding neighborhood is a little sketchy. I have never had an issue, but I would probably recommend not sticking around after dark.
I love the layout
I have played at this course all my life and what they have done in the past 10 years is remarkable I did'nt think it was possible. Its the most fun and best layout you will ever get for your money 'these guy's have done a great job.HATS OFF

What sketchy about the neighbor hood? I have played the course for ten years until I can't see my ball and never had a problem. I have driven some back woods in Alabama to course that makes me more nervous than Roebuck.

I have always loved to play Roebuck. The course today was in fabulous shape. From the Fairways to the Greens, .were in the best shape I've seen the course.. Now if they could come up with a way to drain the course when it rains. I can't blame the course for my score today!
I live in Birmingham and every public golf course in Birmingham charge extra for a single to ride in cart. This is the cheapest rate in town.
