One of the best kept secret golf courses in Shreveport
One of the best kept secret golf courses in Shreveport this nine hole course offers great value for the money. The carts are less than a year old and or some of the best around. The staff is exceptionally friendly, and will go out of the way to help you enjoy your round of golf. The course is quirky, with lots of hills very few water holes but enough hazards to make the game enjoyable for anyone from beginner to scratch golfer level. Teetimes are readily available and rarely do you have to wait for anyone to play through.
A Hidden Treasure
I play this course somewhat regularly. I noticed a number of less than stellar reviews. The course has improved greatly over the last year. The fairways are well maintained and the greens have improved drastically.
The course is a challenging 9 hole course with different tee boxes for playing 18 holes.. It is hilly with lots of uneven lies. As I said challenging.
The staff is super friendly and attentive. The facilities are spartan but it is not intended to be a country club. For $20, it is money well spent.. To my knowledge there has never been an issue with the surrounding neighborhood. The residents are used to the presence of the golf course and diverse golfers. It sits next to a Shreveport Fire Station. Have no fear.
Sweet & Chaep!
You can't find a better course for $20 - including a cart! This was an old 18 hole course but the other 9 got eaten up by a community center and Elementary school. Nothing fancy and definitely not in the best part of town - but the course is fenced in and they've done a decent job of keeping it mowed, seeded and ready to play. The greens are super slow as the grass used is quite course and not consistent.
Clubhouse wasn’t open, there are no carts...... wasn’t notified of either... and course is in a questionable neighborhood.....never got to play it, very hilly
A modest course for good value.
Jerry Tim Brooks Golf Course (formerly Lakeside Park GC) is a small municipal 9-hole course crammed into a small plot of very hilly land just west of downtown Shreveport. Despite obvious signs of being underfunded by the city, the overworked staff were extremely friendly and helpful.
WARNING: THIS COURSE IS NOT FOR BEGINNERS! There is very little flat ground anywhere on the course, and several holes require the golfer to hit up a steep slope or a blind hill. A small creek runs through the western edge of the course grounds, providing ample opportunity to lose balls, especially when teeing off the par-4 (women's par 5) 3rd hole, where a 200 yard straight drive will drop directly into the middle of the gully. Fairways are narrow and tree-flanked, but there is little in the way of high rough to worry about. The greens are very small and have a variety of undulations which make judging putts a distinct challenge.
I played it in mid-March, before spring grass had been planted. The greens were almost entirely moss-covered and of highly unpredictable speeds. Aside from the greens the course was reasonably well maintained- much better than many private courses I've played on.
In the end the course was more difficult than my double-bogey-on-flat-ground game could handle, but for those with a bit more skill than myself, this little treasure might be an interesting (and economical) way to pass an afternoon.
I was in town visiting a friend who had just moved to the area and we both are advid users of the app golfnow app. There was only one course available and this course didn't look well maintained. We booked 18 holes but the course is only a 9 hole course. Not to mention there was no staff available to answer our calls regarding our tee time. GolfNow should take this course off their app. We found there are many more options but they aren't on golf now.
